Thunder Radio adds three aspiring broadcasters to help expand fall sports coverage

Thunder Radio is taking its community-leading sports coverage and making it even better.
The station announced that it has added three young, aspiring sports broadcasters to its team to expand sports coverage in the upcoming school year.
“We take great pride in providing the best sports coverage, not only in our community, but in any community of comparable size in the country. We want the absolute best for our student-athletes, our ball teams and our community,” said Josh Peterson, co-owner of Thunder Radio and sports director.
Thunder Radio announced that Jaxon Vaughn, Elizabeth Brown and Luke Beachboard have all joined the Thunder Radio sports team.
The three will serve as play-by-play announcers for some of Thunder Radio’s sports coverage this fall on Hometown Sports Series. They join veteran broadcasters Peterson, Dustin Murray, Jonathan Oliver and Courntey Steere.
“We aren’t quite ready to announce our coverage schedule just yet,” explained Peterson. “But I can tell you that we will be broadcasting more games than ever before. In past years, we have broadcast around 15-20 Hometown Sports Series games in the fall (in addition to high school football). This year we will be broadcasting significantly more. We hope to have a final schedule to release very soon.”
The Hometown Sports Series is presented by Capstar Bank and includes broadcasts of Coffee County High School volleyball and soccer, as well as Coffee Middle and Westwood Middle football, volleyball and soccer.
In addition to the Hometown Sports Series, Thunder Radio continues to be your home for CHS Red Raider football, as it has been for over 60 years.
Meet the new team
Jaxon Vaughn – A former standout Red Raider basketball player, Vaughn graduated from CHS in May of this year. He is attending college and plans to pursue a career in broadcasting. He was one of six recipients of the Dream For Weave Scholarship this year.
Elizabeth Brown – A track athlete for CHS, Elizabeth is entering her senior year at Coffee County Central. She plans to attend college and pursue a career in broadcasting. She helped with Thunder Radio baseball broadcasts in the spring of 2021.
Luke Beachboard – Will begin his senior year at CHS this fall. Luke cut his teeth in broadcasting for the CHS Raider TV class during baseball and softball season last spring.

Braves return from all-star break on Friday
Trailing the first place Mets by 4 games and 1 game below .500 for the season, the Atlanta Braves return to the diamond on Friday, July 16 hoping to be better in the second half and make a playoff push.
Granted that will be difficult without Ronald Acuna Jr., who suffered a season-ending ACL tear last week, and no hope for Mike Soroka to return this season after a second achilles injury.
The Braves play the Tampa Bay Rays over the weekend, beginning with a 6:20 first pitch Friday. Catch the Braves live on Thunder Radio at 107.9 FM, 1320 AM and 106.7 FM. Thunder Radio is your exclusive home for Braves baseball in Coffee County.

Dr. Grant T. Patterson
Dr. Grant T. Patterson, an AEDC retired aerospace engineering specialist and consultant passed away Sunday, July 11 at the age of 77 and after a valiant two-year battle with ALS. Dr. Patterson was recognized for his contributions to turbine engine and aerospace aircraft systems during his 38-year service. He was known for his outstanding technical leadership and innovations and analytical skills. After his retirement he continued to work part time for 10 more years and especially as a mentor to younger engineers. Dr. Patterson led the effort to establish a turbine engine augmenter test capability at AEDS and was the analysis engineer for engine tests involving systems such as the Pratt & Whitney F100, General Electric (GE) F110, GE F414, and others. He also aided in developing the Non-recoverable Stall Program which defined engine stall characteristics to establish recovery techniques for an engine manufacturer. His leadership involvement with the Snap-In/Snap-Out instrumentation capability helped save millions in instrumentation costs and has become a standard process between engine manufacturers and AEDC. The process streamlined the hookups between engine instrumentation and AEDC data acquisition ports. Dr. Patterson has provided his analysis expertise to the development of a Best Practice publication for data validation in turbine engine test cells and hypersonic aerodynamic tests. Grant was highly active in his community serving as PTA presidents, Band Booster president, THS Singers Parent Support Group president as well as other endeavors that supported Tullahoma City Schools.
