Marty (Violet Martelle) Bond

Mrs. Marty (Violet Martelle) Bond, of Tullahoma passed this life on Friday, September 24th, 2021, at Morning Pointe, The Lantern in Collegedale, TN, at the age of 90. Marty was born in Whiting, Indiana to the late Charles Columbus Day and Georgia Corinne (Austin) Day. Prior to retirement, Marty worked as a dental assistant for Harvey A. Sanders in Tullahoma. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tullahoma. Marty was a loving wife and mother of four children. She had a love for creativity and enjoyed sewing, quilting, water-color painting, and clay-based ceramics. In addition to her parents, Marty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Donald Eugene Bond; her loving son, David Wayne Bond; infant grandson, Robert Bond; and her brother, Carmon Day. Marty is survived by her daughter, Linda Keown (Jim), son, James Bond, daughter, Donna Motlow (Doug); daughter-in-law, Tina Bond; three grandchildren Chris Bond (Hannah), Chad Bond, and Paige Bond; and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Samantha. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 29th, 2021 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 11:00am-1:00pm with the funeral service to immediately follow at 1:00pm in the chapel with Rev. Rickey Wade officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery. Kilgore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Braves, Phillies set to battle for NL East this week

The Braves and Phillies are two National League East rivals chasing the same prize this week at Truist Park.

The teams open a three-game series on Tuesday night in Atlanta, with the Braves holding a 2 1/2-game lead in their quest for a fourth consecutive NL East title. The Phillies, meanwhile, have their backs against the wall as they try to win their first division title since 2011. The Braves’ magic number is at five, meaning any combination of five Braves wins and Phillies losses would give Atlanta the title. FanGraphs gives the Braves an 87.3 percent chance to win the division; the Phillies have a 12.7 percent chance.

The earliest the Braves can clinch is Thursday, but only if they sweep the series. The Phillies, on the other hand, need to sweep the series to give themselves a fighting chance. Because even if they win twice in Atlanta, they will be two back in the loss column with only three regular-season games to play.

FOOTBALL: 5 Westwood Rockets named all-conference

Westwood’s football season came to a close with a loss to Cascade last week. The Rockets finished 3-5 on the season with three losses by less that one possession.

Five Rockets have been selected to the DRVC All-Conference Team: Isaiah Deadman, Joel Barrera, Kaysen Lowery, Matthew White and Ayden Vanwinkle.

MONDAY ROUNDUP: Westwood soccer, CMS volleyball advance in tournaments

Westwood soccer

Westwood opened the quarterfinals of the conference tournament with a 4-1 win over Sewanee St-Andrews Monday afternoon at Dyer-Bouldin Field in Manchester.

Westwood got four goals by four different Lady Rockets: Jenny Sanchez, Abigail Bellamy, Anjelica Montealegre and Bailey Barsenas, who added an assist. Anna Rutowski had two saves in goal for Westwood.

The Lady Rockets will now play at 5 p.m. Wednesday at WMS in the tournament semi-finals.

CMS Volleyball

The CMS Lady Raiders beat no. 6 seed Harris to open the CTC conference volleyball tournament Monday.

The win means CMS will play Warren County in the semi-finals Tuesday – first serve set for 5:45 p.m. at Harris Middle.

Also on Monday, two Lady Raiders were named to the all-conference volleyball team: Bella Hennessee and Carrington Saner.

Bruce Adams

Bruce Adams, age 65, of Taft, TN passed this life Saturday, September 25,
2021.  He was born October 21, 1955 in McMinnville, TN to the late Henry
Adams and Martha (Haggard) Adams who survives him.  Besides his father,
Bruce is preceded in death by his brother, Mark Adams.  Bruce loved driving
his 18-wheeler, bass fishing, working on cars and watching his
grandchildren play.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Thursday,
September 30th at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.  Funeral service will be
held at 1 p.m. in the chapel with interment following at Summitville
Cemetery.

Bruce is survived by his sons, Samuel Adams (Mariana) and Matt Adams
(Kelsey); grandchildren, Nick Adams, Raven Adams, Eli Adams and Rylan
Adams; great-granddaughter, Ruby Adams; mother, Martha Adams; sister,
Teresa Siniard (Winford); and the mother of his children, Mary Adams.

Shelbyville police asking for help locating suspect

In nearby Shelbyville, Tennessee, a man accused of being involved in an Aggravated Assault case has been identified.

On Monday night (Sept. 20, 2021), Shelbyville Police say that the subject in question drove into the side of another vehicle. Previous to the incident, the culprit in question was believed to have visited the local Walmart. It was there that the subject was caught on camera and that footage was obtained by detectives.

Now that the man has been identified, police are trying to locate him. However, authorities have not been able to find the subject, despite officers going to his home.

Police in Shelbyville report that the suspect has been identified as Kenneth David Hurt, who is in his early 30’s. He is facing two counts of aggravated assault charges. Warrants have been obtained for what has been described as a road rage incident.

The suspect, along with another male who was believed to have been with him on the night of the incident, were believed to have been driving in a white Chevrolet long bed – single cab pickup truck with black wheels.
