CHS Volleyball Sweeps Shelbyville
The Coffee County volleyball team kept their perfect district record alive on Thursday night with a win at Shelbyville. The Lady Raiders rolled past the Eaglettes in dominating fashion in the straight set win. Coffee County won by set scores of 25-7, 25-13 and 25-14.
Coffee County had 17 aces in the match led by Odalis Garcia who served 9. Garcia also had 5 kills and a block for Coffee County. Keelie Hillis led the Lady Raiders in kills with 8. Tyana Fenton was the team leader in digs with 9 and Amanda Mukai led in assists with 24.
The win moves Coffee County’s record to 5 and 0 in district play. The Lady Raiders travel to Murfreesboro on Monday for a non-district match with Middle Tennessee Christian. That match will get underway at 5:30 PM.
CHS Golf Continues Winning Streak
The Coffee County golf team grabbed their 17th match win in a row on Thursday as they captured a three way meet in Winchester. The Red Raiders used their balanced scoring to defeat Franklin County and Grundy County at Bear Trace. Coffee County posted a 162 to outdistance 2nd place Franklin County by 16 strokes. The win moves the Raiders record to 33 and 2 on the year.
Samuel Prater and Reid Lawrence fired matching 38’s over the 9 hole match to tie for the low rounds of the day. Austin Farris was 4 strokes back at 42. Josh Perry carded a 44 and Matthew Hale finished at 46.
Coffee County returns to Willowbrook on Monday for a Senior Day matchup with Tullahoma. That match is set to get underway at 4 PM.
CHS Soccer Stunned by Tullahoma
Three goals in the final 22 minutes lifted the Tullahoma soccer team to a stunning 3 to 2 win over Coffee County on Thursday night in high school soccer action. After a scoreless first half, the Lady Raiders got a pair of goals in the first 15 minutes of the 2nd half to grab a comfortable lead. But the Lady Cats began getting long feeds through the Coffee County defense to score 3 goals in an 8 minute span for the non-district win.
Coffee County got on the board first in the 44th minute as Jenna Garretson pushed an Allie Amado pass into the back of the net to make the score 1 to 0. Those 2 combined on Coffee County’s second goal in the 55th minute as Amado scored off an assist from Garretson to make it 2 to 0. That was just the spark Tullahoma needed as they added goals in the 57th, 63rd and 65th minutes to hand the Lady Raiders their first loss of the season. Coffee County is now 3-1-1 on the season.
Coffee County returns to the pitch on Monday when they travel to Columbia for a district match with Columbia. That match will get underway at 7 PM.
CCMS Volleyball Sweeps North Franklin
With a service game that was on fire, the Coffee County Middle School volleyball team swept North Franklin on Thursday afternoon at CCMS. The Lady Raiders used 18 aces in the 2 set win to level their season record at 2 and 2. Coffee County won by set scores of 25 to 11 and 25 to 15.
Coffee County was led in aces by Kiya Ferrell and Lauren Brandt as each served 5 aces. Maddy Sussen added 4 aces and led the team in assists with 4. Brandt added 3 assists. Ferrell led in kills as she had 6. Aly Harris and Hannah Richardson each added a pair of kills.
The Lady Raiders will travel to Sparta on Friday for a conference match with White County. That match was originally scheduled for September 26th. First serve is set for 5 PM. Coffee County will be back at home on Monday when they play host to Harris. Thunder Radio will bring you that match as part of the First National Bank Hometown Sports Series. That match will also begin at 5 PM. Thunder Radio’s live coverage begins at 4:50.
CCMS Football Falls on Homecoming
The South Trojans used their high octane offense to spoil homecoming for the Coffee County Middle School football team on Thursday night. South scored 3 first quarter touchdowns on 4 plays as they raced to the 50 to 12 win.
The Raiders were able to move the ball as they amassed 170 yards of total offense, but Coffee Middle could not force South to punt in the game. Coffee County was led by Kelby Walker who rushed 17 times for 104 yards. Ethan Baker added 49 yards on 13 carries. Walker and Baker each scored touchdowns for the Red Raiders.
At halftime, Olivia Evans was crowned as the 2017 CCMS Homecoming Queen. The Raiders travel to Winchester on Tuesday for a match up with North Franklin. That game will get underway at 6:30 PM.
Westwood Football Drops Conference Game to Fayetteville
The Westwood football team welcomed Fayetteville to Dyer-Bouldin Field on Thursday night for a conference match up with the Tigers. Fayetteville raced out to a 22 to 0 lead at the half before grounding the Rockets by a final score of 44 to 12.
Konor Heaton scored and Connor Smith had 4th quarter touchdowns for Westwood. Heaton scored on a 20 yard run early in the 4th quarter. Smith added a 30 yard scoring dash late in the contest.
Westwood is back in action on Thursday when they play host to Eagleville. That game will kick off at 6:30 PM at Dyer-Bouldin Field.
CCMS Soccer Falls to South Franklin
After a slow start, a late Coffee County Middle School rally was not enough as the Lady Raider soccer team fell at South Franklin on Thursday. The Lady Raiders gave up 4 first half goals to fall behind 4 to 1 at intermission. A frantic second half rally came up short as Coffee County fell by a final score of 4 to 3.
Jorga Waggoner got Coffee County’s only goal in the first half. Ellie Fann added the Lady Raiders’ 2nd goal in the 45th minute off a corner kick from Jayda Wright. Marley Perry added the Lady Raiders’ final goal in the final minute.
The loss drops Coffee County to 2 and 2 on the year and 1 and 2 in conference play. The Lady Raiders are back in action on Friday when they play host to Tullahoma. That match gets underway at 4:45.
Westwood Soccer Blanked at St. Andrews
The Westwood soccer team traveled to Sewanee on Thursday for a conference match with St. Andrews-Sewanee. Westwood saw the Lady Lions capitalize on a goal in the closing seconds of the first half to capture a 1 to 0 halftime lead. The Lady Rockets shut out St. Andrews in the second half but could not get the tying goal as they fell 1 to 0.
Westwood is back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Bedford County to take on Liberty. That match will kick off at 5 PM.

Vivian A Dorsett of Tullahoma passed this life on Thursday, September 7,
2017 at Southern Tennessee Medical Center in Winchester at the age of 56
years. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 9, 2017 at
2:00 PM at the Tullahoma Church of God, 103 S Vine Street, Tullahoma, TN
37388
with burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the
family will be Saturday from 12 PM – 2 PM at the church.
Vivian was the daughter of the late Johnny and Velma Allmon Cartwright. She
was a member of the Tullahoma Church of God and enjoyed painting,
crocheting and taking care of children.
She is survived by her husband, Ben Federspiel of Tullahoma; aunts, Patsy
Baker and her husband, Bob of Tullahoma and Dorothy Smith of Myrtle Beach,
SC; grandchildren, Malinda Dorsett of Tullahoma, Courtney Dorsett and
Tiffany Brown, both Shelbyville and great grandchildren, Charlie and Maggie
Dorsett.
