Man Cited to Court for Shoplifting Newspapers
We have an update on a story we brought you yesterday. We reported that around 200 copies of the Manchester Times had been stolen from Walmart.
A Manchester man has now been cited for shoplifting after allegedly taking the papers without paying for them.
The 20 year-old Manchester man was cited by Manchester Police Department officer Daniel Ray. The man is set to appear in Coffee County General Sessions Court in February.
Manchester Police viewed surveillance video and saw two male subjects allegedly removing the newspapers from the store.
Police identified the man as one of the male subjects involved in the shoplifting.
According to Officer Ray’s report, the man admitted that he did take the newspapers from Walmart after initially stating that he thought the newspapers were free. The report states the 20 year-old said he was mad about an article in the paper.
Home Damaged by Fire in Bell Buckle
One person was injured in a fire at a home in Bedford County Wednesday evening.
The fire began at a home on Coop Road in Bell Buckle around 5 p.m.
The Bedford County Fire Department said one person was taken to an area hospital for treatment of unknown injuries.
The fire department returned to the home later Wednesday night after the fire rekindled.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. (WKRN-TV)
Fire at Winchester’s Universal Linen Service Plant
Emergency crews including the Winchester Fire Department were called to 1280 Baxter Lane at 9 p.m. on Jan. 17 to a fire that had occurred at the Universal Linen Service plant. According to Winchester Fire Chief Gary Greeson, firefighters were at the scene until 2:30 a.m. Thursday. The fire chief stated that the plant was heavily damaged on the inside. No one was injured in the fire.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known but an investigation is underway.
TVA sets “11th Highest Winter Peak in TVA History.”
With some areas having outside temperatures of near zero, TVA saw near-record winter energy use Wednesday morning as millions of customers sought to ward off the sub-freezing cold that’s blanketing the South.
Peak power demand for the giant utility registered at 31,640 megawatts at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Average temperatures at the time were about 12 degrees.
TVA termed it the “11th highest winter peak in TVA history.”

Coffee/Grundy County U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Charla Brannon announced that County Committee elections are over and the ballots have been counted.
Baisel Hockett of Beechgrove was elected to represent local administrative area (LAA) #3 and Robert Wiser of Manchester will serve as the first alternate.
Jerry Walling of Tracy City was elected to represent local administrative area (LAA) #4 and Janice White of Pelham will serve as the first alternate.
Nearly 7,800 FSA County Committee members serve FSA offices nationwide. Each committee has 3 to 11 elected members who serve three-year terms of office.

H&R Block Student of the Week
Congratulations to Student of the Week -Keira McFarlane!!! Keira, the daughter of Josh & Michelle Bare and Keith McFarlane & Andrea Pickney, is a fifth grader at Westwood Elementary school.
Keira was nominated because she has a pleasant attitude, does her assignments and exhibits the school’s FISH philosophy every day. Keira is a cheerleader for the Westwood Eagles. Keira also plays forward for Camp Forrest Soccer on the Lady Fury team. Keira likes science and math. When Keira is not at school, she enjoys playing with her step-sisters and step-brother. Keira likes helping animals and would someday like to be some sort of wild-life-ologist! Rosalyn Partin, owner of the Manchester H&R Block, has been inspired to recognize great kids in our community all through hockey season. What does hockey season have to do with our local students? Well, H&R Block gives each Student of the Week a set of Nashville Predators Hockey tickets, a commemorative plaque, as well as a special letter of recognition.

1/20/18–Ernest Earl Lindsay
Ernest Earl Lindsay of Tullahoma, TN died peacefully at home surrounded
by family on January 17, 2018 at the age of 93. Earl was born at
his family’s farm on September 4, 1924 in Alexandria, AL to Ollie Hugh
Lindsay and Ethel Lee (Sams) Lindsay. The oldest of five children,
he twice served honorably in the U.S. Navy during both World War II and
again during the Korean War. Earl first enlisted in the U.S. Navy
during World War II and earned his commission as an officer at the age of
20. After World War II, Earl put himself through college and
graduated with a double major earning Bachelor of Science degrees in both
Math and Chemistry at Jacksonville State University while also playing
baseball and basketball. He later moved to Colorado where he taught
high school math and coached basketball. Earl then moved back to
Alabama where he was three months into earning his Master’s Degree in
Chemistry at the University of Alabama when the Korean War broke
out.; At that point, he again answered our country’s call to duty by
reentering the U.S. Navy and served in combat as the Gunnery Officer on
the destroyer, USS Colahan (DD-658). After the Korean War, he met
and married the love of his life, Maxine (Harris) Lindsay. Earl
updated his career priorities and earned his Bachelor of Science degree
in Aeronautical Engineering from Auburn University. After spending
a year working for McDonnell Aircraft Corporation in St. Louis, MO, Earl
and his family moved to Tullahoma, TN in 1957 where Earl continued his
professional career as an aeronautical engineer at Arnold Engineering
Development Center (AEDC) until his retirement in 1984. AEDC is an
Air Force Material Command facility that contributed to the development
of practically every one of the nation’s top priority aerospace programs
including the Atlas, Titan, Minuteman and Peacekeeper ICBMs, the space
shuttle, space station, and Projects Mercury, Gemini and Apollo.
Earl enjoyed his time coaching several Little League baseball teams over
the years in Tullahoma. After retirement, Earl and Maxine traveled
the U.S. and abroad where his favorite trip of all was to Australia and
New Zealand. They enjoyed their season tickets to the Tennessee
Lady Volunteers basketball games. Earl was also a big Auburn
football fan and Atlanta Braves baseball fan. Earl is survived by
his three children: son Stan Lindsay (and wife Suzanne) of Tullahoma, TN;
daughter Carol Sanders (and husband Sandy) of Tucker, GA; and son Mark
Lindsay of Plainfield, IL. In addition, he is survived by his three
grandchildren: granddaughters Amber Kolkmeyer (and husband Ryan) of
Yorkville, IL; and, Aly Boomgarden (and husband Alex) of Aurora, IL;
grandson Taylor Lindsay of Tullahoma, TN; two great-grandchildren:
Addison and Aiden Kolkmeyer of Yorkville, IL; one sister, Ann Spieth of
Napoleon, OH, and the added blessings of several nieces and nephews.
Earl was predeceased by his wife, Maxine Lindsay, his brothers
Edward and Raymond Lindsay and his sister Elizabeth North.
Visitation will be held in Tullahoma, TN at Kilgore Funeral Home from
11:00am-12:00pm on Saturday, January 20th, 2018. Funeral services
will immediately follow at 12:00pm with Rev. Martin Nutter
officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial
Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to the
Pat Summit Foundation (www.patsummitt.org) or to a charity of your
choice.

Snow Forces Prep Sports Schedule Changes – UPDATED 17:00 – January 17th
Tuesday’s snow event, and the hazardous road conditions that still exist, forced the cancellation and postponement of several prep sporting events.
- Wednesday’s CCMS home basketball game with North Franklin has been postponed. Make-up date and time is TBD
- Thursday’s CHS/CCMS Swim Meet at Sewanee has been CANCELLED.
- Tuesday’s Temple Baptist Christian School basketball games in Calhoun, GA were postponed. Make-up date and time is TBD.
- Friday(1/12)’s CHS basketball game at Franklin County has been rescheduled for February 10th.
