Temple Baptist Splits Monday Doubleheader in Georgia
The Temple Baptist Christian School Eagles hit the road on Monday traveling to Calhoun, George to take on Philadelphia Christian School. The JV Eagles got a game winning shot with 18 seconds remaining to capture a 24 to 23 win. The varsity Eagles fell 73 to 52 after suffering through a 3rd quarter rally by Philadelphia.
Trailing 23 to 22 with 18 seconds remaining, Colton Summers hit his second game winning shot of the season to lift the Eagles to the win. Alex Gloden was the leading scorer for Temple as he finished with 12 points. Mich Gloden added 6 points and Isaiah Baker chipped in 4. Summers finished with the much needed 2 points.
In the varsity game, Philadelphia broke open a tight game in the 3rd quarter as they closed out the period on a 24 to 7 run. The varsity Eagles were led in scoring by Cody Swayze who had 37 points. Alex Gloden and Mich Gloden each chipped in 5 points for the Eagles.
The varsity Eagles are back at home on Thursday when they welcome Faith Christian School of Jamestown to the E.C. Bailey Gym. Tip-off for the varsity contest is scheduled for 6 PM.
1/31/18 — Jesse Whittemore
Funeral services for Mr. Jesse Whittemore, age 86, of Manchester, TN will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Bro. Benny Benjamin officiating. Burial will follow in Summitville Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until the time of service. Mr. Whittemore passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at Autumn Oaks in Manchester, TN.
Jesse was born in Cannon Co., TN, the son of the late Nute and Maggie Whittemore. He is a veteran of the United States Air Force, joining in 1951. In his later life, Jesse enjoyed farming, raising his pigs and cows, and working 25 years for the Coffee County Sheriff’s Department.
In addition to his parents, Jesse is also preceded in death by his five sisters, Willie Mae Holden, Lucy Volner, Juanita Vickers, Martha Jean Duke, and Georgia Judkins; one grandson, Derek Adams. He is survived by his two daughters, Sherry (Richard) Swann and Terry (Donald) Adams; one grandson, Chris Swann; and two great-grandchildren, Jordan and Will Swann.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like for donations to be made in Jesse’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959, or a charity of your choice.

1/31/18 — Nell Newman Pedigo
Funeral services for Mrs. Nell Newman Pedigo, age 90, of Hillsboro, TN will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Manchester Funeral Home with Brother Bill Williams and Brother Reid Perry officiating. Burial will follow in New Brick Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on January 30, 2018, from 4:00 until 9:00 PM. Mrs. Pedigo passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Mrs. Pedigo was born in Decherd, TN, the daughter of the late William and Sally Newman. Mrs. Pedigo was a library assistant for Coffee County Middle School.
In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joe Richard Pedigo; two brothers; William Calvin (Nenny) Newman Jr., Harris Newman; one sister; Willie Ruth Zavatchen. Mrs. Nell is survived by one son; Joe Keith (Dorothy B.) Pedigo; One daughter, Gwendolyn Kay Pedigo; one brother, George Wayne Newman; two sisters, Mildred Casteel and Betty Fraley; two grandchildren, Joseph Scott Pedigo and Julie Elizabeth (Matt) Bowling; and one great grandchild, Catherine Rose Bowling.
Mrs. Nell supported various charities and gratefully requests that memorial contributions be made to Coffee County Educational Foundation, Franklin County Christian Memorial Foundation, Tennessee Children’s Home, and Happy Haven Homes, Inc.

Eileen C Stoner, of Manchester, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 at
Unity Medical Center at the age of 82 years. Funeral Services are
scheduled for Friday, February 2, 2018 at 2 PM at the Daves-Culbertson
Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.
The
family will receive visitors beginning at 12 PM.
Eileen, a native of Delaware, OH, was the daughter of the late Myron and
Jessie Dennis. Her favorite times were spent with family, especially
grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed working in her
flower garden. She had a special love for her cats.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Frederick C Stoner; daughter, Cathie McKenzie; sisters, Marilyn Hughes and
Nancy Hill and half-brother, Mike Brown.
She is survived by two sons, Freddie Stoner of Hillsboro and Dannie Stoner
of Manchester; daughter, Debbie Marks of Altus, OK; thirteen grandchildren;
twenty nine great grandchildren and one and one on the way, great great
grandchildren.

Manchester Man gets 40 years in Prison for Rape of a Child
Last week in Coffee County Court, Frame pled guilty in a plea deal that will send him to prison for 40 years.
Tanker Truck carrying Motor Oil Overturns on I-24 near Beechgrove
A tanker truck overturned on I-24 Eastbound, going toward Manchester, near the Rutherford – Coffee Co. line around 2am Monday.
Only one lane was open while hazmat crews determined if there was a spill. Just before the roadway re-opened, all lanes were shut down as the tanker was up righted. Most of the traffic was diverted to Hwy 41 to the Beechgrove exit during the hazmat cleanup. The tanker truck was loaded with used motor oil.
The crash happened at mile marker 92, just 5 miles from the Coffee County line.
Sunday Morning Fire in Hillsboro
On Sunday morning just after midnight Coffee County deputies responded to a call of a structure fire at 931 Sherrell Road.
The mobile home was fully engulfed when emergency crews arrived along with a Dodge van that was pulled up near the home.
Pelham Valley fire department and Hillsboro fire department began extinguishing the fire. Once the fire was extinguished due to not knowing if anyone was inside the trailer, the fire department began pulling the metal from the walls and removing debris to check for any victims. It was determined that no one was inside the home.
