The Coffee County CHS softball team traveled to Shelbyville on Wednesday looking for their 5th win in their last 6 games.  Taking on a Shelbyville team that pushed them hard in Manchester last week, the Lady Raiders jumped on the Eaglettes early to get the 5 to 1 win.

Coffee County scored 2 runs in the 2nd inning, a single run in the 3rd and 2 more in the 4th to build a 5 to 0 lead.  Keri Munn pitched a complete game for the Lady Raiders as she scattered 10 hits while working out of trouble.  Shelbyville left 12 runners on base in the game with at least one runner left on in each inning.

Coffee County was led in hitting by Sarah West who had 2 doubles.  Ashley Evans had a single and a double and 2 RBI.  Haley Richardson had 2 singles and Raven Rogers drove in 2 runs.

Coffee County is back in action on Friday when they open play in the Lincoln County Border Battle.  The Lady Raiders will take on Marshall County at 4 PM and Riverdale at 5:30 PM.

CHS Bats Silenced in Loss to Franklin County

The Coffee County CHS baseball team welcomed Franklin County on Wednesday night.  The 2 teams engaged in a pitcher’s duel as Coffee County’s Hayden Skipper and Franklin County’s Hunter Perry each pitched complete games with neither surrendering an earned run.  Unfortunately, Coffee County was held without a hit as they lost 2 to 1.

After Coffee County took a 1 to 0 lead on a walk, a sacrifice and a throwing error in the 3rd inning,   Franklin County used 2 of their 3 hits, combined with a walk and a Coffee County error, to score 2 runs in the 4th inning.  The Raiders stranded a runner at 2nd base in the 3rd and a runner at 3rd base in the 4th, 5th and 6th innings as they could not scratch a hit against Franklin County’s Perry.

Skipper went the distance for the Raiders on the mound taking the hard luck loss.  Skipper surrendered 3 hits while striking out 9 and walking 1.  For his incredible performance, Skipper earned the Crazy Daisies player of the game honor.

Coffee County’s record will finish up at 6 and 6 on the year in district play.  The Raiders hit the road on Friday for a non-district game with Warren County.  First pitch is scheduled for 5:30 PM at Warren County High School in McMinnville.  Coffee County is back at home on Saturday when they play host to Warren County.  That game will get underway at 11 AM at Powers Field.

Cory James Smith intake photo provided by the CCSD.

Residents of a West Volney Street home reported to Tullahoma Police that they had found an individual asleep on their couch.
On April 17 around 2 a.m. the residents reported to Officer Tommy Elliott that they went into the living room and found a man identified as Cory Michael Smith, 29, of South Franklin Street asleep on their couch. The residents told the officer that when they went to bed they left their front door open and unlocked. They said the only thing missing was a cell phone.
Officer Elliott awakened Smith and that he did not know where he was. Smith was placed into custody and searched. The officer found in Smith’s front pocket 11 Xanax and one Adderall pill. Also found in Smith’s back pocket was the missing cell phone.
The officer found on the front porch of the residence a pill bottle and one black glove. The officer allegedly found three grams of marijuana in the bottle. Smith was transported to the Coffee County Jail and charged with aggravated burglary, possession of schedule II, possession of schedule IV and possession of marijuana. He was booked into the jail under bond of $17,000. He is scheduled to appear in Coffee County General Sessions Court July 12.
