7/30/18 — Carolyn Campbell Christenson

Funeral services for Carolyn Campbell Christenson, age 68, of Omaha, Nebraska, will be conducted on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 2:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Pastor Doyle Sherrill and Joey Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Rockliff Cemetery in Warren County. The family will receive friends on Monday prior to the service from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM. Ms. Christenson passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2018.

Carolyn was born on May 16, 1950 in Coffee County, TN to the late Redus Elmer Campbell and Mildred Geneva Miller. She was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Gail Christenson; special uncle and aunt, Larry and Leona Campbell. She is survived by her son, Robert Gault (Lisa); sister, Kathy Johnson (Marvin); grandson, Michael Gault; step-sons, Brian Christenson, Cory Christenson, Christ Christenson; nephews, Shannon Johnson, Nathan Cerwonka; niece, Beth Eller; great nephew, Luke Eller; several aunts, uncles, and many cousins.

7/31/18 — Ruby Ardine Scurlock

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruby Ardine Scurlock, age 76 of Manchester, will be conducted on Tuesday, July 31, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Coffee County Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Ragsdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday prior to the service from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Mrs. Scurlock passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Ruby was born on February 14, 1942 in Manchester to the late Phillip and Pearl Walden. She attended the Church of God and loved spending time with her family. Ruby enjoyed dancing and watching wrestling.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Scurlock. Survived by her daughters, Debra Kulka (John) of Michigan, Sandra Scurlock of Manchester; brother, Edgar Walden of Manchester; sisters, Wilma Pickens of Manchester, Jeanette Martinez of Indiana; grandchildren, Scott Kulka, John Kulka and Brittany Scurlock; great-grandchildren, Julian Scurlock and Kiana Scurlock.

8/1/18 — Ezra Lee Sissom

Funeral services for Ezra Lee Sissom, age 60, of Manchester, will be conducted on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Brother James Caudill and Brother Joe Sissom officiating. Burial will follow in Gnat Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday July 31, 2018 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 prior to the service from 11:00 P.M. until 1:00 PM.

Ezra passed away from this world on Monday July 30, 2018 surrounded by his wife and two daughters. Ezra was born in Ohio to the late Edgar Lee Sissom and Dora Lee Purdue Sissom. He was of the Baptist faith. He worked at M-Tek for 20 years and was employed by Morrison Industry. Ezra enjoyed riding his 4-wheeler, working on his vehicles, shooting in the woods, watching the western channel with his wife, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years Brenda Messick Sissom, his two daughters April Sissom (Israel) of Beech Grove and Chandra Sissom of Manchester, mother-in-law Mary Lee Messick, four grandchildren Alyssa Santana, Alayna Sissom, Zachary Fletcher, and Nataliz Sissom, one brother Joel (Jessica) Sissom, and two sisters Rachel Sissom, Andrea Sissom (Trudy) all of Cannon County. In addition to his parents, Ezra was preceded in death by granddaughter Cherokee Alexis Sissom, and one sister Gerenda Sissom. In lieu of flowers the family ask for donation to be made in Ezra’s name to the cancer society.

8/5/18 — Charlene G. Dean

Charlene G. Dean, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 at her
residence at the age of 82 years. Memorial services are scheduled for
Sunday, August 5, 2018 at 2:30 PM at Lynchburg Funeral Home with burial to
follow at Lynchburg Cemetery. The family will receive friends beginning at
1 PM.

A native of Lynchburg, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ola
Flippo Golden. Mrs. Dean was a teacher in the Lynchburg school system for
32 years. She loved teaching. She was a member of Pleasant Hill Methodist
Church where she enjoyed playing the piano for services. Mrs. Dean also
enjoyed reading and was a member of the United Methodist Women, the Eastern
Star and Phi Beta Kappa.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Bobbie
Jane Adams. Mrs. Dean is survived by son, Charles Edward Dean and his
wife, Deborah of Lynchburg; daughters, Rebecca Murray and her husband, Zach
of Lynchburg and Susanne Smith of Lynchburg; cousin, Jackie Holt and her
husband, Robert of Tullahoma; six grandchildren, six great grandchildren
and three great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in her honor
to the Lynchburg Elementary School Library.

Back to School This Week

The summer break from school is almost up as students return to class this week. Coffee County Schools will have an abbreviated day on August 1 as students will be released at 10am. Teachers will have an administration day on August 2 and the first full day of classes will be August 3.
Manchester City Schools will have an abbreviated day on August 2, until 9 a.m., with regular classes beginning on August 3.
Classes at Tullahoma City Schools will begin August 2 with students being released at 1pm and the first full day on August 3.

McMinnville Man Charged with Stabbing another Man found Guilty of Reckless Endangerment

A McMinnville man who was charged in a stabbing incident two years ago was found guilty of a lesser offense last week in DeKalb County Criminal Court. 32-year-old Eric Dewayne Frazier was accused of stabbing Jonathan Judkins during an altercation at Judkins’ home in DeKalb County in October 2016. Judkins was airlifted to Erlanger in Chattanooga and has since recovered from his injuries.
Frazier was indicted for aggravated assault. A jury found the man guilty of a lesser charge of reckless endangerment.
Frazier reportedly claimed he was acting in self-defense. A sentencing hearing is set for October 5th. The range of punishment is from one to six years.

Governor Candidates have Spent over $51 Million during Primaries

The Tennessee governor’s race tab has topped $51 million before the Aug. 2 primary.
Adding activity from July 1 to 23, four Republicans have spent $45.7 million, infused $40.2 million of personal money and raised $13.2 million otherwise.
Ex-state economic development commissioner Randy Boyd personally added $5.2 million-plus in July. His election-long total is approaching $19.5 million.
At $21.1 million, Boyd is the biggest spender.
Congresswoman Diane Black added $2 million in July. Her total investment is $12.3 million.
House Speaker Beth Harwell and businessman Bill Lee didn’t contribute personal money this month. Their personal contributions remain $3.1 million and $5.3 million.
For Democrats, ex-Nashville Mayor Karl Dean has outspent House Minority Leader Craig Fitzhugh $4.4 million to $984,800. Dean added $750,000 in personal money this month, up to $1.5 million total.
