Sounds Rally to Win 2018 Season Finale
Cooper Goldby’s two-run double and BJ Boyd’s two-run triple keyed a late rally to help the Nashville Sounds to a 6-5 win Monday afternoon at First Tennessee Park. 7,782 fans watched the 2018 season finale and pushed the season attendance to over 600,000 for only the second time in the franchise’s 41-year history.
Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth inning, Nick Martini started the rally with a one-out walk off Memphis reliever Andrew Morales. After Jorge Mateo struck out for the first out in the inning, Sean Murphy was hit by a pitch and Anthony Garcia singled to load the bases.
Cooper Goldby came to the plate and ripped a two-run double down the right-field line to pull the Sounds within a run at 5-4. It was the first Triple-A hit in Goldby’s career.
BJ Boyd followed with a line drive down the right-field line, scoring both runners to give the Sounds a 6-5 lead. The triple was Boyd’s third hit of the game. He finished the day 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Nashville reliever Calvin Coker entered the ninth with a 6-5 lead and got the job done for his first save at the Triple-A level. The youngster issued a one-out walk and hit Andrew Knizner with two outs but got Lane Thomas to bounce out to second base to end the threat.
Nashville trailed 4-0 early after Ramon Urias cracked a solo homer and Thomas hit a three-run homer in the top of the third inning. Melvin Mercedes trimmed a 5-0 deficit to 5-2 with a two-run single in the bottom of the sixth.
Sounds’ Right-hander Richard Morban kept it close in the later innings. The 20-year-old allowed one run in four innings of relief work and picked up his first win at the Triple-A level.

Man Operating Personal Watercraft Dies on Tims Ford Lake
A jet skiing accident results in a fatality on Tims Ford Lake Saturday evening.
Zachary Davis, 28, of Christiana, TN was operating a personal watercraft (PWC) around 5 pm on Saturday (September 1). His brother in law was on a separate PWC and indicated to officers that Davis, who was unfamiliar with the craft, had fallen behind.
Davis was located floating in the water near the PWC, which has damage consistent with that of an impact with the bank. Davis was wearing a lifejacket and this incident is still under investigation.
This accident brings the total number of boating related deaths on Tennessee waters to 22 for the year.
Scam Alert- Lawrenceburg Car Selling Website is Fake
The Tennessee Department of Commerce & Insurance (TDCI) and the Tennessee Motor Vehicle Commission are warning consumers to avoid purchasing vehicles advertised through a phony website created and operated by scammers posing as the proprietors of a legitimate Lawrenceburg auto dealer.
Fully licensed and in operation since 1991, Fields Auto Sales operates its dealership at 1408 N. Locust St. in Lawrenceburg but does not operate a website. Unfortunately, scammers created a bogus website with a fake phone number purporting to be Fields Auto Sales in order to fool unsuspecting potential consumers. Additionally, scammers advertised the nonexistent vehicles through an online auto sales website using Fields Auto Sales’ name. Victims believed they were buying actual cars online and gave their money to the scammers through electronic fund transfers.
The owners of Field’s Auto Sales were made aware of the scam when they were contacted by three victims, all of whom live outside Tennessee and believed they were buying vehicles via the Internet. (One consumer who lives in Las Vegas only learned about the scam after flying to Nashville to pick up a vehicle only to learn there was no car.) The victims have all contacted law enforcement authorities about the scam.
When it comes to making any purchases, be cautious of items being advertised well below their market value. Remember, if the deal appears too good to be true, it probably is.
