Titans Lose a Sloppy Game to Bills, 13-12
Turnovers, dropped passes, and missed opportunities.
Here on Sunday, they all came back to haunt the Titans in the end of a 13-12 loss to the Bills.
“Everybody is pissed off,” Titans safety Kevin Byard said. “It is pretty silent in here. … We talked all week about not coming up here and laying an egg, and falling into the b.s. or whatever, but we did and we lost. We have to get better.”
Bills kicker Stephen Hauschka made a 46-yard field goal to win it as time expired.
“I don’t have much to say,” Titans defensive lineman Jurrell Casey said. “We had been on a good roll, winning close games. To let something like this go into the L column, knowing that we had the game in our hands, it definitely sucks. We had been talking about getting over the hump, leaving the past in the past. To let something like this happen it brings a damper.”
Titans cornerback Adoree’ Jackson intercepted Bills quarterback Josh Allen with 7:51 left, which gave the Titans the ball at their own 46, trailing 10-9. Then, kicker Ryan Succop made his fourth field goal of the game – a 50-yarder with 4:43 left – to give the Titans a 12-10 lead.
It looked like the Titans might survive a sloppy performance.
But the Bills rallied to win it, and the Titans dropped to 3-2.
“You don’t have to slam your helmet, and you don’t have to bang the lockers, and kick the Gatorade cooler over,” coach Mike Vrabel said. “If you (make mistakes) every week, you’ll lose in the National Football League. Those are fundamental things we have to do a better job with.”
It was a shaky start for the Titans, who never really got on track, in large part because of three turnovers.
On the team’s first possession, receiver Taywan Taylor fumbled after making a catch from quarterback Marcus Mariota, and the Bills recovered. Allen guided an 11-play, 47-yard drive and capped it off with a 14-yard touchdown run to make it 7-0.
Titans return man Nick Williams set up a Succop field goal with a nice return. Williams returned a punt 38 yards, and Succop’s 25-yard kick made it 7-3 with 1:35 left in the first quarter.
After Mariota was intercepted, the Bills came up empty on a botched field goal deep in Tennessee territory when Bills holder Corey Bojorquez threw an incomplete pass.
At the end of the first half, Succop tied a career-long with a 54-yard field goal, which made it 7-6 at the half.
But the Titans had trouble generating any momentum, thanks to turnovers. Running back Dion Lewis added to the turnovers with a fumble in the third quarter. The Bills cashed that in for a 10-6 lead on a 40-yard field goal by Hauschka.
The Titans put together their best drive of the day early in the fourth quarter, but settled for another field goal by Succop after Williams dropped a Mariota pass while heading into the end zone. Succop’s kick, with 10:30 remaining, made it 10-9.
Williams made no excuses after the game for the drop.
“Marcus made a great play keeping the play alive, scrambling,” Williams said. “He threw a great pass — that’s all on me. One-hundred percent, that’s pro ball. Quarterbacks throw it, receivers catch it. You have to make that play.”
The Titans face the Ravens next Sunday at Nissan Stadium.

Important Voter Registration Information
The Office of the Secretary of State has received reports of groups contacting registered voters and telling them that they are not registered to vote. Others have reported receiving pre-populated voter registration forms for individuals who are deceased and have been removed from the voting rolls.
The National Association of Secretaries of State has warned states about a scam where an organization is making calls and offering to register voters by phone. While these calls have not been reported in Tennessee, voters should be aware that they cannot register by talking to a person on the phone.
For accurate information regarding voter registration in Tennessee, voters are encouraged to visit GoVoteTN.com to register to vote or check their registration status. Voters can also contact the Division of Elections at 1-877-850-4959 or their county election commission with any questions about voter registration. Registering to vote is easy in Tennessee. Tennessee citizens may register by-mail or online. Online voter registration allows any U.S. citizen with a driver’s license or photo ID issued by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security to register online.
A recent report suggests that Tennessee ranks second to last in voter turnout and nearly as low in voter registration. In efforts to raise awareness and increase turnout at the polls this November, Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett crisscrossed Tennessee in September, National Voter Registration Month, asking many citizens to not only register, but to vote.
He made a stop Motlow College’s Smyrna location and Middle Tennessee State University in an effort to encourage students to get registered.
Voter registration deadline is October 9 for the November 6, 2018 General Election. For more information or to register to vote go online to https://ovr.govote.tn.gov/. You can also drop by the Coffee County election administration office at 1329 McArthur St in Manchester, suite 6.
TBI Does Not turn over Documents to the Public
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigations says it’s helping protect the innocent by not turning over documents to the public, a policy that’s raised some eyebrows among state lawmakers and open government advocates.
Under Tennessee law, TBI’s investigative records are sealed and not releasable to the public unless they have a subpoena or a court order from a judge.
Officials say the bureau is not taking a position on changing the system but added the current practice helps prevent the media from wrongly smearing an official’s name.
Democratic Sen. Jeff Yarbro of Nashville said the rest of the government operates under the assumption all documents are public unless they qualify for an exception.
