Outdoor Food Pantry Opens in Manchester
Encounter Life Church on Oakdale St in Manchester has started an outdoor food pantry. The Community Food Pantry is located in their parking lot at 1006 Oakdale St. in Manchester TN, next to Westwood Elementary. It is open around the clock and is self-serve.
The front doors of the pantry read, “Take what you need, leave what you can, a lot becomes a little in the Master’s hands.”
Pastor Adam Cutshaw said, “I am thankful for the men of the church that designed, constructed, painted and labeled the outside pantry.” The Community Food Pantry is open to everyone with no exceptions. Cutshaw added that he’s asking that anyone in the community stock it themselves at any time with non-perishable goods. The Community Food Pantry contains non-perishable goods, pregnancy tests labeled with Life Choices information, flyers with community aids and resources, gospel tracts and Bibles. Everything is absolutely free.
College Street and Westwood Elementary Cross Country Teams Show Out at Regional Meet
The College Street and Westwood Elementary cross country teams traveled to Chattanooga on Saturday for the Chattanooga Cross Country State Qualifier at Moccasin Bend. At the end of the day, the College Street boys’ team had a runner-up finish while the Lady Cougar runners finished in 4th place. With their performances, the Cougars qualified for the state meet scheduled for this Saturday. For Westwood, the boys garnered a 6th place team finish while the girls came home in 7th place overall.
In the boys’ race the top local finisher was Jordan Thompson of College Street who ran the 1 mile course in 7:05 to capture 8th place. The top Westwood runner was Farmer Rigsby(with a time of 7:48) who had a 35th place finish.

The Tennessee State Elementary School Cross Country Championship is scheduled for Saturday in Knoxville. The race will be held at Victor Ashe Park and the girls’ race will begin at 10:30 AM(EDT). The boys’ race is set to follow at 10:50. With the start of the elementary basketball league and the MYFL championship game on Saturday, any College Street runners that qualified for state will need to participate as “unattached” allowing them to compete for an individual title, but not a team title.
Coffee Middle 6th Grade Basketball Teams Sweep North Franklin
The Coffee County Middle School 6th Grade basketball hit the road on Monday night for a doubleheader at North Franklin. The Lady Raiders raced to a 33 to 17 win. The Red Raiders fought their way to a 40 to 17 win.
The Red Raiders raced out to an 18 to 3 lead in the first half. Coffee County was led in scoring by Courtland Farrar who had 13 points. Evan Kirby added 10 points.
The 6th grade teams will host their first home games of the year on Tuesday night as they welcome White County to the CCMS gym. Tip-off for the girls’ game is set for 6 PM.
Three Westwood Players Honored with All Conference Award
Predators Hang On to defeat Wild, Get Third Straight Win
Filip Forsberg scored his third goal in two games for the Nashville Predators in a 4-2 win against the Minnesota Wild at Bridgestone Arena on Monday.
The Predators (5-1-0) have won three consecutive games and went 3-1-0 on their four-game home stand.
After Pekka Rinne made the save on Nino Niederreiter on a breakaway with 2:41 remaining, Nashville killed a tripping penalty against Miikka Salomaki with 2:17 left while leading 3-2.
The Wild (1-2-2) had a three-game point streak end.
Craig Smith gave the Predators a 1-0 lead at 6:01 of the first period on the power play. P.K. Subban took a shot from the point, and Smith beat goaltender Alex Stalock on the rebound.
Matt Dumba scored for the Wild at 13:29 on the power play to tie the game 1-1. The puck bounced out to the high slot, and Dumba one-timed the puck past Rinne.
Mattias Ekholm gave the Predators a 2-1 lead at 3:51 of the second period on a shot from the slot. Ryan Johansen led the rush and found Ekholm with a pass in the slot for his second assist of the night.
Forsberg gave the Predators a 3-1 lead at 12:02 when he scored on a breakaway. Kyle Turris stole the puck and passed it to Forsberg coming off the bench, and he beat Stalock for his fourth goal.
Mikko Koivu scored for the Wild to make it 3-2 at 15:03. Mikael Granlund forced a turnover behind the Predators net and found Koivu.
Salomaki scored an empty-net goal after exiting the penalty box to make it 4-2 with 11 seconds remaining.

James W Anderson of Normandy passed this life on Saturday, October 13, 2018
at Kindred Hospital in Chattanooga at the age of 59. Funeral services are
scheduled for Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 2 PM at Daves-Culbertson
Funeral Home with burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will
receive friends beginning at 12 PM
A native of Nashville, he was the son of the late Charles William Anderson
and Myra Tucker Alea of Florida. He was a U S Air Force veteran and a
member of the First United Methodist Church of Tullahoma. He enjoyed
riding motorcycles, listening to music and eating a good meal. His
favorite thing was being with his family.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by wife, Carla Anderson of
Normandy; daughter, Rachel Anderson of Chattanooga; brother, Charles
Stephen Anderson and his wife, Natalia of Harrisburg, PA; sister, Patsy
Watkins and her husband, Bill of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; nephews, Jason Weakley
of Nashville, James Anderson of Boston, MA and Bobby Anderson of
Harrisburg, PA; niece, Jennifer Braswell and her husband, Mark of Nashville
and great nieces, Vivian and Leora Braswell.
In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested donations be made to the Henry
Center, First United Methodist Church, 208 W Lauderdale Street, Tullahoma,
TN 37388
Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Earthquake in Grundy County
The U.S. Geological Survey at Memphis reports a Magnitude 2.3 earthquake rattled folks in Grundy County and surrounding communities about 1 a.m. Monday.
It was roughly 5 miles below the surface.
No injuries or damage was reported.
According to officials, the quake was centered about halfway between Pelham and Altamont along State Route 50.
According to reports, the trembler was detected as far away as Nashville, which included a portion of Coffee County.
