Nashville SC to Renew Rivalry with FC Cincinnati in First Round of USL Cup Playoffs
It’ll be a rematch. Due to results around the USL on Sunday, Nashville SC clinched the No. 8 seed in the USL Cup Playoffs and will travel to take on top-seeded FC Cincinnati in the first round on Saturday at 3 p.m. CST. It’ll be the second-consecutive meeting between the two clubs after they drew 3-3 this past Saturday at First Tennessee Park.
The two teams have gotten quite familiar with one another this season with three regular season meetings, drawing all three times. Nashville SC has played FCC tough in all three games, drawing 0-0 in the first matchup at Nissan Stadium in July. Then in August, Nashville scored a late equalizer to earn a 1-1 draw at Nippert Stadium. Then, Nashville SC upped the drama, scoring in the final minute on Saturday night to end its regular season with one more result.
Nashville SC is one of just two clubs that FC Cincinnati has not beaten in its record-breaking final season in the USL. Cincinnati has set records for points and wins in the USL regular season and is currently riding a USL-record 23 game unbeaten streak that dates back to May.
While Nashville will be playing in its first-ever USL playoff game, this is the third consecutive season that FC Cincinnati has reached the USL Cup Playoffs. In its two previous trips, Cincinnati was one-and-done, falling in a first round upset in 2016 to the Charleston Battery before bowing out in the first round again last season to the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
For fans that would like to make the trip to support Nashville SC in its inaugural playoff run, stay tuned to NashvilleSC.com and @NashvilleSC on social media for ticket information.

Gas Prices Down Slightly
Gas prices declined over the weekend and that trend should continue this week. Gas prices in Tennessee slipped one cent lower during the weekend. Due to a slight increase last week, the Tennessee state average of $2.68 per gallon is only a half-cent less than a week ago. However, Tennessee motorists are still paying 9 cents more than last month and 38 cents more than this time last year.
AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said we should see a 5 to 10 cent drop or more in the next ten days. This is the type of downward movement we normally see at the pump during the fall.
The national average price of regular unleaded is $2.89.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the low price per gallon of gas in Manchester was $2.59 and in Tullahoma, it was $2.62.
Lawsuit Filed Over Operation Cand Crush in Rutherford County
Several Rutherford County businesses have been added to a lawsuit against Rutherford County government leaders in connection with the February 12, 2018 OPERATION CANDY CRUSH. You might remember that 23 Rutherford County businesses were shut-down for selling products that contained CDB.
The raids were completed under a court order and carried out by the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office, local agencies along with backing by the TBI, DEA, and FBI. The businesses were padlocked after undercover agents allegedly bought candy that contained CDB.
The district attorney dropped the charges, as it reportedly was learned that it was not illegal to sell products containing CDB in Tennessee.
This lawsuit was filed by Cloud 9 Hemp owner James Swain Rieves and 16 other plaintiffs were added. Rieves claims that legal merchandise was seized which caused loss of business, serious mental and emotional distress, diminished reputation and standing in the community and other charges. The business owners felt that their civil rights had been violated.
Among other things, Rieves requests a trial by jury, $500,000 in compensatory damages, coverage of reasonable attorney fees, along with other issues.
This lawsuit was filed against Rutherford County District Attorney Jennings Jones, Sheriff Mike Fitzhugh, Smyrna Police Chief Kevin Arnold, along with Assistant DA John Zimmerman.
