Coffee County CHS Softball Rallies to Dump Lawrence County

The Coffee County Central High School softball team traveled to Lawrenceburg for a crucial district battle.  The Lady Raiders and the Lady Cats entered the game in a first place tie with records of 3 and 0.  Coffee County rallied for 3 runs in the top of the 6th inning to capture the crucial win.  The Lady Raiders won by a final score of 4 to 3.

With the game tied at 1 entering the bottom of the 4th, Lawrence County pushed across a pair of unearned runs to take a 3 to 1 lead.  But Coffee County rallied for 3 runs in the 6th inning.  Keri Munn hit a 2 RBI double and Kiya Ferrell drove in the winning run with an RBI single.

Munn also got the win in the circle as she pitched all 7 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run while striking out 7.  Munn also had a pair of doubles at the plate and drove in 3 runs.  The win moves Coffee County to 9 and 3 on the season and 4 and 0 in district play.

Coffee County travels to Wartrace on Tuesday for a non-district battle with Cascade.  First pitch is set for 6:00 PM.

Westwood Baseball Falls to Huntland

The Westwood baseball team welcomed Huntland to Fred Deadman Park on Monday night.  It was the first of 2 straight conference battles between the 2 squads.  In a matchup you heard here on Thunder Radio as part of the Gilley Crane Home Town Sports Series, Huntland was able to grab an early lead to drop the Rockets.  Westwood fell by a final score of 9 to 1.

Huntland was able to score in 6 of the 7 innings in the conference win.  Westwood pushed a run across in the 4th inning when Jayden Carter laced a triple to lead off the inning and scored on a balk by the Huntland pitcher.  Westwood was held to 3 hits in the game as Carter finished with a single and a triple.

Westwood will travel to Huntland on Tuesday for the 2nd game in the series.  First pitch is set for 5 PM.

Coffee County Middle School Baseball Wallops South Franklin

The Coffee County Middle School baseball team returned to conference action on Monday at home as they played host to South Franklin.  A big first inning helped lift the Red Raiders to their 9th straight win.   The Red Raiders dropped the visiting Trojans 22 to 1.

Coffee County jumped on the Trojans in the 1st inning as they plated 6 runs, highlighted by a 3 run home run from Jacob Holder.  The Raiders scored in every inning and banged out 14 hits in the Mercy Rule shortened game.  A trio of Coffee Middle pitchers held South without a hit as Holder got the start and pitched 3 innings striking out 9 to get the win.  At the plate, Holder finished with a single and a homer and 3 RBI.  Cole Pippenger was 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.  England Bryan had a double and a single and 5 RBI.  The win lifts the Raiders conference record to 8 and 0.

The Red Raiders will travel to Winchester on Tuesday for the 2nd game in the season series.  First pitch is set for 5 PM.

Coffee County CHS Tennis Sweeps Giles County on Monday

The Coffee County CHS tennis returned to district action on Monday in their first home match of the year.  Welcoming new district rival Giles County, the Raiders captured a pair of sweeps.  Both the Red Raiders and Lady Raiders won their matches by identical 7 to 0 scores.

For the Lady Raiders, Lauren Perry(by a score of 8 to 0), Natalie Elzeer(8-1), Wren Lawson(8-0), Kylie Millaway(8-1) and Emma Fulks(8-1) captured singles wins.  In doubles play, Elzeer and Lawson(8-2) and Perry/Fulks(8-0) captured wins.   The Lady Raiders are now 3 and 1 on the season.

For the Red Raiders, Benedict Edinger, Jaden Talley, Jonah Rollman and Johnathan Welch and all won by identical 8 to 0 scores in singles play while Landon Booth earned a forfeit win.  In doubles play, Edinger and Talley got an 8 to 0 win while the team of Rollman and Tyler Rigney won their match 8 to 1.  The Red Raiders are now 4 and 0 on the year.

The Raider netters will return to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Tullahoma to take on the rival Wildcats.  First serve is set for 4 PM.

Coffee Middle Softball Blanks County Franklin on Monday

The Coffee County Middle School softball team welcomed South Franklin to the CCMS diamond on Monday.  The Lady Raiders were able to overcome 5 South base runners in the 1st innings to grab their 13th win of the year.  Coffee Middle won by a final score of 13 to 0.

South opened the game strong loading the bases in the 2rd inning before Coffee Middle could get out of the inning.  Leading 1 to 0 going to the bottom of the 2nd inning, the Lady Raiders erupted for 6 runs in the 2nd and put the game out of reach with 6 more in the 3rd.  Madison Pruitt led the Lady Raiders in hitting as she had a double and a single and 4 RBI.  Channa Gannon had a pair of singles and also got the win in the circle.  The win improves the Lady Raiders to 13 and 0 on the year and 8 and 0 in conference play.

The Lady Raiders will travel to Winchester on Tuesday for the 2nd game in the season series.  First pitch is set for 5 PM.

CCMS Golf Ties Fayetteville in Season Opener

The Coffee County Middle School golf team opened their season at home on Monday as they welcomed Fayetteville to Willowbrook.  Playing in teams, and scoring via the Junior PGA flag scoring system, the Raider golfers fought to a 6 to 6 tie with Fayetteville.

The team of Liza Freeze, Maggie Crouch and Madison Winn captured 3 flags in their match.  Kira Jarrell and Cadie Prater battled for 1 ½ flags.  Austin Dickery and Avery Hill captured 1 flag and Zach Tidwell and Kolby McCormick added the last ½ flag.

The Coffee County golfers will return to the course on Monday when they host North Franklin at Willowbrook.  That match will tee off at 4 PM.

WEstwood Golf Blanked in Season Opener

The Westwood Middle School golf team opened the 2019 season at Willowbrook on Monday playing host to Tullahoma.  Playing in pairs, and scoring via the Junior PGA flag scoring system, the Rockets fell to Tullahoma 12 to 0.  The talented Wildcat golfers swept all 4 matches against the young Rockets.

The Rocket linksters will be back in action on Monday when they take on South Franklin at Willowbrook.  That match will tee off at 4 PM.
