4/23/19–Michael Filmore McMillen Sr.
Michael Filmore McMillen Sr. of Manchester, passed this life on Friday,
April 19, 2019 at his residence at the age of 52 years. Funeral Services
are scheduled for Tuesday, April 23, 2019 at 1 PM at Daves-Culbertson
Funeral Home with burial to follow at Summitville Cemetery. Visitation
with the family will be Monday, April 22, 2019 from 5 – 8 PM.
A native of Marathon, FL, he was the son of the late Francis Willard Davis
Sr and Jean L Davis of Summitville, TN. He enjoyed fishing and hunting for
mushrooms and ginseng. He was a jokester and enjoyed aggravating everyone,
especially his siblings. He was also a cat lover.
In addition to his mother, Jean L. Davis of Summitville, he is survived by
son, Michael Filmore McMillen Jr of Plantation City, FL; daughter, Hannah
Mae McMillen of Plantation City, FL; brothers, Francis Willard Davis Jr of
Summitville, Ray McMillen of St. Teresa, FL and Donald McMillen of
Knoxville, TN; sisters, Cherie Townsend of McMinnville, Loretta McMillen of
Tullahoma, Mary Cromartie of Summitville and Bonnie Sue Qualls and her
husband, Wayne of Tullahoma and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Michael’s family would like to extend a special thank you to his best
friend, Michael Allen of Summitville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in his
honor to Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.

Pamela Rae Shultz of Tullahoma, passed this life on Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Alive Hospice in Murfreesboro at the age of 64 years. No services are scheduled.
A native of Bedford, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Charles Childers and the late Winifred Hayes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Shultz.
Pamela is survived by son, Kenny Shultz and his wife, Chasity of Tullahoma; brothers, Mike Childers and his wife, Rita of Indiana and Chuckie Hayes of Indiana and two grandchildren, Kayden Shultz and Caiden Mears.

Coffee County CHS Baseball Falls Short in Thursday Game with Marshall County
The Coffee County CHS baseball team welcomed Marshall County to Powers Field on Thursday. Riding their longest winning streak of the year, the Red Raiders were looking to keep the momentum rolling as the postseason approaches. A huge rally in the 7th inning came up short as Coffee County lost 8 to 7.
Coffee County jumped out to a 4 to 0 lead in the bottom of the 2nd inning only to see Marshall County tie the game in the 3rd. Marshall County built an 8 to 4 lead going to the bottom of the 7th. Coffee County rallied to score 3 runs and loaded the bases with the top of the order up. A red Raider strikeout ended the rally and the game.
Griffin Meeker led the Raiders in hitting as he had 3 singles to be named the Crazy Daisies player of the game. Hayden Skipper and Brady Nugent each added a pair of singles. Harley Hinshaw drove in 2 runs in the 7th with a 2 out single.
The Raiders will be back in action on Friday when they begin a 2 game series with Warren County. Thunder Radio will be on hand to bring you the broadcast from McMinnville. First pitch is set for 6 PM, Lucky Knott will have the pregame at 5:50. The Raiders return home for Senior Day on Saturday when they welcome the Pioneers to Powers Field. That game gets underway at 1 PM.

Coffee County CHS Track Has Strong Showing at Sectional Pentathlon/Decathlon Meet
The Coffee County CHS track sent 6 athletes to Soddy Daisy this week to compete in the TSSAA Sectional Pentathlon/Decathlon. Competing for the Lady Raiders in the Pentathlon were: Chloe Haggard, Madison Rooker and Ellie Graham. Competing for the Red Raiders in the Decathlon were: Trace Bryant, Dillon Helms, and Ethan Welch. The top 2 athletes in each event guarantee a berth in the TSSAA state Pentathlon/Decathlon to be held on May 16th and 17th at Austin Peay State University. Four at-large athletes will also be selected from the highest scores at each of the 4 sectional meets across the state.
Trace Bryant led the Raiders as he posted a 3rd place finish with a total of 5315 points. That finish puts him in good position to receive an at-large bid. Bryant earned 1st place finishes in the discus, the shot put and the high jump. 3rd in the 100M and the pole vault, 4th in triple jump, long jump and 110M high hurdles. Welch got a 13th place overall finish highlighted by 3rd place finishes in the discus and shot put. Helms got an 18th place overall finish highlighted by a 3rd place finish in the pole vault.
For the Lady Raiders, Madison Rooker was the top finisher as finished in 13th place overall with 1943 points. Chloe Haggard was right behind her in 14th place with 1922 points. Ellie Graham finished in 21st place overall. Rooker’s highest event finish was a 6th place finish in the 800M. Haggard also had a high event finish of 8th place in the high jump. Graham captured an 8th place finish in the shot put.
Up next for the Raider thinclads will be their final home meet of the year on Saturday, April 27th as they will host the “Red Raider Night of Miles” at Carden-Jarrell Field.
Coffee County Softball Drops Tullahoma on Thursday Night
The Coffee County CHS softball team hit the diamond on Thursday for their 4th district game in the last 4 days. Traveling to Tullahoma, Coffee County was looking to keep their recent winning streak alive. Coffee County blew open tie game in the 6th as the Lady Raiders finished strong in a 6 to 1 win.
Tied at 1 in the 4th inning, Justus Turner ripped a 2 run double to put Coffee County on top to stay. The Lady Raiders added 2 in the 5th on a Kiya Ferrell home run and a single insurance run in the 7th.
Ferrell’s home run was one of her 2 hits. Katie Rutledge had a triple and a single. Turner finished with a single and a double and Keri Munn had 2 singles and 2 RBI. Munn went the distance in the circle as she tossed a 4 hitter striking out 9.
Coffee County is back in action on Friday when they travel to Fayetteville to take part in the Lincoln County Border Battle. The Lady Raiders will play a pair of games on Friday beginning at 2 PM with a game against Greenbrier. At 5 PM, Coffee County will tangle with Summertown in the 2nd pool game. Pool play and single elimination tournament play will take place on Saturday. Friday’s games will take place at Don Davidson Park.
Westwood Softball Ends Regular Season with Win Over Liberty
The Westwood Middle School softball team celebrated 8th Grade Night on Thursday taking on conference foe Liberty. The Lady Rockets took an early lead and held off a late rally as the won 5 to 4.
After scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning and adding a run in the 5th, it appeared that the Lady Rockets had the game in hand. Liberty scored 2 runs in the top of the 6th to cut the deficit to 1 and Westwood answered in the bottom of the 6th. Liberty’s 2 run rally in the 7th came up short as Westwood improved to 8 and 3 on the season.
Brooklyn Blake swung the hot bat as she had a single, a double and a triple while driving in 2 runs. Emma Kidder had a single and a double and Aeriana Anderson added 2 singles.
The Rockets will now be off until next week’s conference tournament. The location and first round opponent will be determined at a later date and Thunder Radio will keep you updated. The Duck River Valley Conference Tournament will be held in Manchester at Fred Deadman Park and Lady Rocket Field.
Westwood and Coffee Middle Split Rivalry Tennis Match
The Coffee County Middle School and Westwood Middle School tennis teams squared off in a good old-fashioned backyard rivalry match on Thursday at the Raider Academy. As is fitting in a rivalry matchup, the 2 teams split the decision as the Lady Rockets won in girls’ play by a score of 4 to 3 while the Red Raiders won in boys’ action by a score of 5 to 2.
In girls’ singles action, Westwood got singles wins from Rylea McNamara(6-1) and Anna Johnson(6-2). The Lady Raiders got singles wins from Morgan Tinsley(6-1), Lauren Hogan(6-0) and Kyra Sherrill. In girls’ doubles action Westwood got both wins as the team of Rylea McNamara and Anna Johnson grabbed a 6 to 2 win while the team of Ocean Filippo and Sarah Khan won 6 to 0.
In boys’ action, Coffee County got singles win from Liam Brown(6-3), Xander Blomquist(7-6), Matthen Blomquist(6-0) and Nolan Sussen(6-4). Westwood got a win from Jonathan Nelson(6-3). In doubles’ play the Coffee County team of Brown and Sussen won 6 to 3 while the Westwood team of Nelson and Jeffery Hale won 6 to 4.
Westwood will be back on the court on Monday when they travel to McMinnville for a 4 PM match with Warren County. Coffee Middle returns to the court on Thursday when they visit Fred Deadman Park for a rematch with Westwood. That match will also get underway at 4 PM.
