Norman L. Hampton of Fayetteville passed this life on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at the Donalson Skill Care at the age of 71. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 3:00PM at Sulphur Springs Cemetery with Bro William Jones officiating.
Mr. Hampton, a native of Lincoln County, was the son of the late Eugene Hampton Jr. and Delois Goodrich Hampton. He was a member at New Haysland Church and enjoyed going to camp and watching television.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hampton was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gail Hampton; brothers, Clarence and Fred Hampton; sisters, Martha Parks, Nancy Edmiston, Lois Jean Hampton.
He is survived by brothers, John Henry (Rachel) Hampton of Fayetteville, Thomas Edward (Bessie) Hampton of Fayetteville, James Hampton of Fayetteville; sisters, Vernettia (Herbert L.) William Johnny Wheeler, of Hillsboro, passed this life on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2020 at his home after an extended illness. Mr. Wheeler was born in Sparta, Tennessee to the late Ray Wheeler and Willie Buttrum Wheeler Sparks. During his life he worked as a Meat Cutter at the Commissary at AFB Civil Service and was a member of the Church of Christ in Hillsboro. Johnny loved and enjoyed spending time with his family as well as grilling, cookouts, old cars and playing cards. He simply loved life. In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by one sister, Thelma Faye Wheeler; one brother, Kenneth Wheeler; and several close cousins. He is survived by his wife, Jewel B. Wheeler; two daughters, Kathy Guess and her husband Jeff of Estill Springs, and Lisa Wheeler of Hillsboro; one granddaughter, Jessica Guess of Estill Springs; one grandson, Hayden Scott of Hillsboro; one brother, Bob Wheeler of Lake Isabella, California; and his first cousin, who was more like a sister to him throughout his life, Linda Goines of Sparta. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 6th, 2020 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 11:00am-1:00pm with the funeral to immediately follow at 1:00pm with Pastor Tom Harrison officiating. Burial will follow at Hillsboro Methodist Cemetery.

Mary “Marie” Evans of Petersburg passed this life on Wednesday, November 4, 2020 at her residence at the age of 85. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 11:00 at Shiloh Cemetery in Dellrose with Bro Eddie Graves officiating.
Mrs. Evans, a native of Lincoln County, was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lena Thompson Carter. She was a member of the Fairview Fellowship Church and it is said that she never met a stranger. Mrs. Evans loved being in on the fun. She was the life of the party and was very fond of dancing, attending country music concerts, and listening to bluegrass. She also enjoyed taking trips to Tunica and visiting the casinos.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Alton “Kirk” Evans; sons, Rickey Evans and Michael Wayne Evans.
She is survived daughters, Kay Tallent of Petersburg and Brenda (Tony) Blankenship of Booneville; sister, Helen Harris of Fayetteville; nine grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren.

Alice Marie (Becknell) Nunley, age 95, of Hoschton, Georgia and recently of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away Sunday, November 1st.   She was born in 1925, to the late Lionel Earl and Annetta Mable Becknell of Neosho, MO.   In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Willis Becknell, her sister, Frances Zamora Compton, and her beloved husband, Roy Max Nunley (Major, retired army).

She is survived by her children, Sherry Ann Nunley Ledford, Deborah Kay Nunley Simmons, and Bruce Alan Nunley, her sibling, Lyle Edward Becknell, and her five grandchildren, Matthew Craig Ledford, Teri Ann Ledford, Daniel Joseph Ledford, Nicole Nunley Simmons Wineinger and Mariah Clare Nunley.  She is also survived by her twelve great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters, one of which she was able to meet a week before she passed. 

Alice Nunley served as a registered nurse in both Tennessee and Georgia.   She spent over ten years as a real estate agent for the Norton Agency and then served as broker for Nunley Realty for the next 26 years.   

Alice was an active member of both the Hoschton and Braselton women’s clubs and one of the four founding members of the Braselton West Jackson Library.  She taught visual arts privately from her home and traveled extensively with her family.   Mrs. Nunley, who was blessed with a beautiful first soprano voice,  sang in many choirs, including those of Hoschton United Methodist Church, Oakwood UMC, Stone Mountain UMC and Winder First UMC. 

A private family service will be held on Friday, November 6th, at 1:00 P. M. at Manchester Funeral Home, Manchester, TN with interment to follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Warren County, TN.

Lt. Ted F. Holiday, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Monday, November 2nd, 2020 at Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro at the age of 70. Lt. Holiday was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Lt. Cmdr. Leslie O. and Kathryn Luther Holiday. Ted dedicated his life to law enforcement; he was a former Instructor at the Tennessee Correction Academy, a Lieutenant with the Coffee County Sheriffs Dept, a Firearms Instructor, SWAT Team Commander, and Hostage Negotiator. He was also a member of the Tullahoma Masonic Lodge, a Shriner, and earlier in his life was the lead singer of the band The Phatons, with whom he had the experience of playing at Woodstock in 1969. Most importantly, however, Ted was a devoted Christian who possessed a great, unwavering faith. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Michael Harrell. Lt. Holiday is survived by his wife, Christine Lord Holiday; one daughter, Ashley Tucker; one son, Michael Holiday; five grandchildren, Simeon Tucker, Elijah Tucker, Aniyah Tucker, Olivia Holiday, and Craig Tucker; one sister, Kathy Hutchinson; one brother, Mike Tyler; three brothers-in-law; three sisters-in-law; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Visitation for Lt. Holiday will be held on Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 12:00-2:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home. Funeral services with Masonic Rites will immediately follow at 2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home chapel with Hubert Robertson officiating. A private, family graveside service will follow. Annie Mae Davis of Estill Springs passed this life on Tuesday, November 3,
2020 at her residence at the age of 76.  Funeral Services are scheduled for
2 PM, Sunday, November 8, 2020 at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home, 2020 with
burial to follow at New Center Grove Cemetery. The family will receive
friends on Saturday, November 7, 2020 from 5 – 7 PM at Daves-Culbertson
Funeral Home.

A native of Manchester, she was the daughter of the late J T and Margaret
Messick Newman.  She worked at the Shirt Factory in Manchester and
Tennessee Apparel in Tullahoma for many years.  She was a member of Marble
Plains Baptist Church. She loved being outdoors and sitting on her swing
watching the birds and enjoying her flowers.  She also enjoyed cooking and
being with her dog, Pipi.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Larry
Mack Davis.

She is survived by daughter, Kristy Davis (Keith Griser) of Estill Springs;
sisters-in-law, Mary Lee Tucker of Manchester and Jelene Smith of Tullahoma
and several nieces and nephews.

Gladys Bolles Tudor died November 2 at her home in Petersburg, Tennessee at the age of 96. She is preceded in death by her husband Billy Joe Tudor, her sister Odelle Bolles Bell, and her parents Jim and Leota Waid Bolles. She is survived by her children, Terry Tudor of Petersburg, Steve (Cathy) Tudor of Lewisburg, and Cathy Tudor Forester of Nashville; her grandchildren, Amy Tudor of Bowling Green, KY, Steven (Jamie) Tudor of Murfreesboro, and Hayley Forester of Nashville; her great-grandchildren, Atley, Ava, and Amelia Tudor of Murfreesboro; her beloved niece, Beth (David) Bell Arnold, great-niece Lauren (Randall) Arnold Thomason, and great-great nephews, Hudson and Luke Thomason, all of Murfreesboro, and extended family of nieces and nephews. 

Born on January 10, 1924, Gladys was a lifelong resident of Petersburg and a devoted member of the Petersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She graduated from Morgan High School in 1942 and attended Draughon’s Business College in Nashville, where she met Billy Joe Tudor. They were married on January 2, 1943, and came home to Petersburg to raise their family.  

Her greatest delight in her life was her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great nephews. She rarely missed a Pee Wee, Little League or school sports game her granddaughter and grandson played in, and she loved going on regular Spring Break trips to the beach with her daughter and granddaughter.

Gladys was very proud of her hometown, and always eager to participate in any activity the town or her church held over the years. Together with her dear friend Vivian Sanders she created the Petersburg Community Library in the 1990s, and she worked three days a week as librarian until finally retiring in 2018 at the age of 94. She was proud to be able to give something back to her hometown, and in the past two years she particularly enjoyed spending time at the new businesses that have joined the library on the once empty square. 

She was a skilled quilter, and whenever there was news of an upcoming wedding or a new baby, she would work for weeks to present them with their own unique quilt, stitched and set completely by hand. In the words of Cindy Dunnivan, who calls Gladys her second mother, “Miss Gladys has worn herself out with all that she has done for so many. She needs her rest.”
