2019-2020 Prep Tryout Information(updated June 5th)
It is that time of the year when the local prep teams begin to schedule tryouts. As always, Thunder Radio wants to pass along all the tryout information we have received for the local prep coaches. Students should be prepared to participate in all the tryout sessions unless otherwise noted. Student/athletes need to remember to bring along with them the signed and completed TSSAA Physical and Parental Consent forms with them when they arrive. 6/7/19 — Juanita Alexander Hunter
Hunter, Juanita Alexander, passed away on Tuesday, June 4th, 2019 at the age of 92. She was born on May 23rd, 1927 to the late John and Ora Alexander of Franklin County. A native of Franklin County, Mrs. Hunter was a resident of Tullahoma for many years. She was a 1944 graduate of Franklin County High School in Winchester and was employed as the personnel secretary for Genesco in Tullahoma for several years. She later completed college courses at Peabody College in Nashville. Mrs. Hunter was a member of First United Methodist Church in Tullahoma and was an active member of The Daughters of the American Revolution; The Upper Cumberland Chapter of the Daughters of 1812; Ladies Hermitage Association of Nashville, as well as several local civic organizations. She was a co-founder of The Foundation for the Preservation of Oakwood Cemetery in Tullahoma. Mrs. Hunter was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Dr. Dale O. Hunter, Sr.; parents, John Vincent Alexander and Ora Weaver Alexander; sisters, Betty Jane Alexander (twin sister of Wayne) and Marie Alexander Cowie; and brother-in-law, John Alexander. Mrs. Hunter is survived by three children, Dr. Dale O. Hunter, Jr. (Allie), Karen Hunter Wells (Rick) and Jane Hunter Eggleston (Vincent); two grandchildren, Stacy Eggleston McWhorter (Brandon) and Leslie Eggleston (Erin); four great-grandchildren, Barrett, Christian, Bella and Brooklyn (due in July); two brothers, Bob Alexander (Betty) and Wayne Alexander (Jeannie); and sister, Johnnie Alexander. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6th, 2019 from 5:00-8:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home, with the funeral on Friday, June 7th, 2019 at 11:00am at First United Methodist Church in Tullahoma. A private burial will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Tullahoma. Memorials may be made to the Tullahoma First United Methodist Church, 208 West Lauderdale Street, Tullahoma, Tennessee 37388 or a charity of your choice. The family would like to thank all the personnel of Morning Pointe Assisted Living in Tullahoma; Tennova (Harton) Hospital in Tullahoma and NHC Tullahoma, who all provided care for our loved one.

6/8/19–James Richard Moffat
Moffat, James Richard, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Sunday, June 2nd, 2019 at the age of 33. James was born in Winchester to the late Richard Paul Moffat and Rebecca Robertson Moffat who survives. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and spending time with his family. In addition to his father, James was preceded in death by his grandparents, Paul and Joann Moffat and Hubert and Jean Robertson. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one sister, Laura Hendrix (Wesley) of Tullahoma; aunts, Janette Kelesh, Paula Moffat and Dolly Moffat all of Canton, Ohio, and Brenda Elliott of Tullahoma; cousins, Shay, Kaylee and Michael Moffat; uncle, Hubert Robertson (Sheila) of Lynchburg; the mother of his children, Jennifer Lewis of Tullahoma; and his three children, MaKayla Sorrells Moffat, Jaxxon Moffat and Elizabeth Lewis. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 7th, 2019 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm. The funeral service will he held on Saturday, June 8th, 2019 at 11:00am in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jim Norman officiating. Burial will follow at Concord Cemetery in Tullahoma. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Blue Monarch, P.O. Box 1207, Monteagle, Tennessee 37356.

6/6/19–Billie Ray Gilley
Funeral services for Mrs. Billie Ray Gilley, age 92 of Manchester, will be conducted on Thursday, June 6, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at Coffee County Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M. Mrs. Gilley passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2019 at St. Thomas Rutherford.
Billie was born on June 26, 1926 to the late John and Violet Ray. In former years, she worked as a personnel manager at AEDC. She enjoyed reading and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother, Bob Ray and her sister, Vennetta Lewis. Survived by her husband, Harry Barr Gilley; daughter, Lisa Jean Teroy; son, Rondal Ray Teroy; brother, Larry Ray; sisters, Opal Ray, Peggy Tippy, Betty Lewis; 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Claybusters Have Good Showing at Region Championships

The Meadows brothers helped lead the Junior Varsity(middle school age group) team to a first place finish in their division. The JV team shot a 465 to outdistance MTCS by 26 clays. Emma Mathews shot a 91, Xavier Bartley shot a 90 and Brayden Davenport added an 86 to grab the title. Mathews 91 was good enough for her to finish as the 3rd best lady shooter in the event.
The high school team did not have their best performance as they finished in 7th place with a final tally of 472. Dickson County won the Varsity division with a score of 488. The varsity squad was led by Hayden Jacobs who shot a 97. Colter Smith added a 96, Victoria Majors shattered 94 targets while Tucker Carlton shot 93. Cheyenne Martin rounded out the squad with a 92 which was good enough for 6th place in the ladies division. Majors was 1 slot ahead of her as she finished in 5th place. Jacobs score was tied for 4th highest as he ended up in 16th place following the tiebreakers.

Individually on Sunday, Jacob Anderson captured 3rd place in the Intermediate Entry class with a score of 87. Bellomy’s score of 96 was good enough for 2nd place in the boys’ Intermediate Advanced class followed by Taylor who finished in 3rd place. Payne’s 91 was good enough for 2nd place in the ladies’ Intermediate Advanced class.
The Claybusters are back in action on Tuesday, June 11th and Wednesday, June 12th when they return to Nashville for the AIM State Championships. The SCTP state championship will take place on June 18th through 22nd. Both events will take place at the Nashville Gun Club.
Coffee County Lady Raider Basketball Struggles in Monday Camp Action
The Coffee County CHS Lady Raider basketball team hit the road to begin a 2 day team camp on Monday at Shelbyville. Using a 13 person rotation, the varsity Lady Raiders tangled with Page and Clarkrange. The JV team and the freshman team each had a game as well.
The varsity did not shoot well on the day losing both of their games. Coffee County fell to Page 43 to 31 before being edged by Clarkrange 55 to 50. The JV team walloped Independence by 30 points while the freshmen lost to Warren County’s JV by 10.
The Lady Raiders will return to Shelbyville on Tuesday for the final day of the team camp. Coffee County will conclude the camp at 2 PM when they tangle with Independence at Harris Middle School. The JV will take on Clarkrange at 11 AM and the freshmen will battle the Shelbyville JV at noon. Both of those games will me in the Shelbyville Central High School Auxiliary Gym. Coffee County will take part in a team camp at MTSU on Wednesday through Friday.
