On Saturday night, Nashville SC used three goals, including two in the second half, to earn a draw against Ottawa Fury FC at First Tennessee Park. While Nashville gave up the final goal of the match, it fought to earn the point after falling behind 2-1 early in the second half. Daniel Ríos, Ropapa Mensah and Cameron Lancaster all scored in the draw as Nashville SC’s top three scorers each added to their tally. Mensah also added an assist in his Man of the Match performance.
Scouting New York Red Bulls II
New York Red Bulls II is the highest scoring team in the Eastern Conference, with 31 goals in 15 matches, the “Baby Bulls” are an offensive threat behind leading scorers Jared Stroud and Mathias Jørgensen. However, New York is coming off its worst result of the season this past Saturday, a 3-0 road loss to Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC, the most goals it has given up in a match this season. New York is one of the best home teams in the USL Championship, with 22 out of a possible 30 points at home, but on the road has been a different story with just 7 earned out of 15.
Storylines to Watch
1-1 Routine – Nashville SC and New York Red Bulls II have met three times over the last two seasons, and each result has been a 1-1 draw. That result says something about Nashville’s defense as New York has scored multiple goals in more than 57% of its matches over the last two seasons. While another draw would extend Nashville SC’s unbeaten streak in league play, a win would allow Nashville to leapfrog New York in the standings.
Top Two Offenses – New York Red Bulls II and Nashville SC feature the two best offenses in the USL Championship this season. New York has scored 31 goals in 15 matches while Nashville has 30 in 16. New York has scored 3 or more goals six times already this season, and Nashville isn’t far behind with five, including each of its last three. There are sure to be plenty of goals on Wednesday night if the stats hold true for each team.
Lancaster’s Streak – Nashville SC forward Cameron Lancaster has scored in each of the last five times he has taken the field. That streak is the longest in club history. Even more intriguing is that Lancaster has done his damage primarily as a substitute, scoring four of those five goals after coming off the bench. It’s obvious that Lancaster has no trouble scoring, but fans will be wondering if he can keep the streak alive on Wednesday night.
Nashville Wins Series Opener in Memphis
After taking three-of-five games from New Orleans, Nashville won their series opener against Memphis, 10-4. The Sounds recorded 19 hits, setting a new team season-high. Zack Granite led the way with four hits.
The Redbirds scored first with two runs in the top of the first inning. The first run was scored on a balk by Joe Palumbo. Andrew Knizner hit an RBI single to get the second run in.
In his first game back on a rehab assignment, Scott Heineman hit a two-run homer to tie the game in the top of the second inning. Adam Moore hit an RBI single later in the inning to give the Sounds a 3-2 lead. Irving Lopez hit a solo home run in the bottom of the second to tie the game 3-3.
Nashville went on to score five runs in the top of the third inning, bringing 11 batters to the plate. Both Matt Davidson and Christian Lopes hit RBI doubles to give the Sounds the first two runs. Juremi Profar, Adam Moore and Granite hit three consecutive RBI singles to give the Sounds the 8-3 lead.
Memphis scored one more time in the bottom of the third inning. Edmundo Sosa hit a solo home run to make it an 8-4 game. That would be all the Redbirds would score.
The Sounds stuck the dagger in the ninth inning scoring two more runs. Moore hit another RBI on a fielder’s choice and Carlos Tocci hit an RBI single to make the final score 10-4. Taylor Guerrieri (2-1) earned his second win for the Sounds in relief.

Gas Prices Going Up
Tennessee’s state average gas price is $2.38 per gallon for regular unleaded, making it the seventh lowest average price in the nation. The price is 3-cents higher than last week. Today’s national average is $2.67, which is one cent less than last week.

Questionable Conviction Case heads back to Court

Photo from Free Adam Brasell
He will be back in court Wednesday.
He was convicted on circumstantial evidence– largely centered around the victim’s family identifying Braseel as the killer.
Back in March, Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum said the case wasn’t investigated properly. He suggested new evidence may show an innocent man has spent the last 12 years behind bars.
Sheriff Shrum said, “Why did it take 12 years to get a fingerprint back from the TBI crime lab. Why? Let’s answer some of those questions,”
One other big question is why the first investigator on the scene was never asked to testify? He will on Wednesday.
In 2015 Judge Justin Angel granted Braseel a new trial and he was released from prison. One year later the Appeals Court upheld the conviction and Braseel was returned to prison. The same judge will be on the stand on Wednesday.
His family is confident this time he’ll go from prisoner to a free man.

A passenger in the Gunn vehicle, Jacob Austin Carter, 21, of Bell Buckle, was seriously injured, according to the report. Carter is undergoing treatment at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

The software-based bookkeeping company plans to create more than 450 new jobs in Davidson County.
Pilot.com, Inc., founded in 2017 in San Francisco, provides a bookkeeping solution for startups and small businesses.
Located in Nashville’s Wedgewood-Houston neighborhood, Pilot.com’s new office will house its finance operations and customer support teams. The company also plans on growing its base of software engineers at the facility.

Mentors Needed for Tennessee Promise
The state of Tennessee is looking for 9,000 mentors for the Tennessee Promise program.
Tennessee Promise gives every graduating high school senior the chance to attend a community or technical college tuition-free.
Mentors will only need to commit one hour per month.
The program will supply them with training, a handbook and weekly communication to help in the process.
Data from the first year of the program indicates that TN Promise students are graduating at a rate almost three times their peers at the same institutions.
Program administrators believe eliminating the financial barrier, coupled with support from a mentor, is the reason students are graduating at significantly higher rates.
