Coffee County Softball Update

Niki Campbell Ready To Run Against Riverdale... By Barry West

The Coffee County Lady Raiders continued play in the Border Battle in Lincoln County on Friday. The ladies suffered a 3-2 loss to Oakland with the Patriots scoring all 3 of their runs in the last inning.

Later in the evening Coffee Co. knocked off Shelbyville 11-4.

On Saturday morning it was a pitcher’s duel as Brianna Jones and the Lady Raiders beat Lincoln County 1-0. Bricen Hunt had an RBI single.

Game two of the day saw Coffee Co. softball fall behind 4-0 to Greenbrier but the bats got hot in with 7 runs scored the last inning for a 7-4 victory. Ginny Clayborne had 3 hits and Juli Layne and Niki Campbell had 2 RBI’s each.

Next up was Riverdale and it was a close game going to the last inning as the Lady Warriors leading 2-1. As the time limit ran out Riverdale scored 4 more for a 6-1 win. Chelsea Howell had a hit and an RBI.

In the double elimination tournament Coffee Co. continued play taking on the host school Lincoln Co. again. Chelsea Howell had a big game with 4 hits including a 2-run homer as the Lady Raiders moved on in the tournament with a 7-3 victory. Anna Spellings also had 2 RBI’s.

In semi-finals Coffee Co. took on Bob Jones, Ala. The girls from Madison took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd and tried to hold on. As time was running out in the one-hour 15 minute time limit Bethany Baker attempted to score from 3rd and was thrown out at the plate. Juli Layne singled in Anna Spellings but that’s all Coffee Co. could score falling 2-1.
The (17-7) Lady Raiders after playing 10 games last week will play again tonight hosting Shelbyville weather permitting. You can hear the game live on Thunder Radio beginning at 7pm.

Coffee County Baseball Update

In baseball action on Friday afternoon in the William Workman Spring Classic, Coffee Co. Red Raiders fell to Rossview 3-1. Kyle Douglas knocked in Peyton Meeker for the Raiders only run.

Coffee Co. defeated Clarksville NW 13-2 Friday night. Peyton Meeker had a grand-slam for the Raiders. The 13 runs were the most scored in a game this season.

On Saturday the Raiders dropped their match-up with Harpeth 10-4. Coffee Co. lost to Montgomery Central 3-1 in the last game of the day.
Up next for the (9-14) Raiders will be Bradley Central in Cleveland on Thursday beginning at 5:30pm.

Coffee County Soccer Keeps On Winning

In Coffee Co. soccer on Friday the Raiders hosted Harpeth. Ricky Ramirez had a hat trick scoring all 3 goals in a 3-0 win.
Coffee Co. will travel to Cookeville on Wednesday.

Preds Lead Wings 2-1 In Series

Shea Weber knew he wouldn’t be popular in the Motor City.
The star defenseman didn’t really care, he just wanted to win.
Weber turned boos into silence with a goal early in the first period and the Nashville Predators held on to beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 Sunday to take a 2-1 lead in the first-round series.

4/17/12 — Tammy Craig Davis

Tammy Craig Davis age 52, of Hillsboro, Graduated to Glory April 14, 2012 at her residence with her family by her side.

Ms. Davis was born on November 24, 1959 in Coffee County, Tennessee to the late James and Mary Sue Craig. In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by one son, Derrick Davis.

Ms. Davis is survived by her husband of 36 years Walter Davis of Hillsboro; son, Draper (Jenny) Davis Manchester; grandsons, Hayden and Dylan Davis of Manchester; granddaughter, Madison Kirksey of Hillsboro and one great-grandson; brothers, Tim Craig, Stanley Sanson, Ronald Sanson, Gary Sanson; sisters, Ram Womack, Clemmie Conn, Gail Gipson, Lucy Bennett; a host nieces, nephews and loved ones. 

Funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at 1pm from the Decherd Church of God in Decherd.

Interment will follow in Mt. Garner Cemetery with Hayden Davis, Dylan Davis, Jody Watson, Johnny Watson, Travis Bowlin and Dennis Bowlin serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer will be Madison Kirksey.

Visitation will be Monday, April 16, 2012 from 5-8pm at the Decherd Church of God.

4/15/12 — Lois Sanders Scroggins

Ms. Lois Sanders Scroggins, age 91, of Tullahoma, passed away Friday at the LifeCare Center of Tullahoma.

A native of Oklahoma City, OK, she was the daughter of the late Doc and Lena Sanders.

She was a retired ball sewer at Wilson’s Sporting Goods and was of the Baptist Faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, William Franklin Scroggins in 1977.

She is survived by her son, Gerald (Brenda) Scroggins of Shelbyville, one granddaughter; Glenda (Tim) Maupin of Bradyville, one great grandson; Jason (Katie) McGee, one great granddaughter; Betty Horsley, four great great grandsons; Thomas and James McGee, and Alex and Tucker Horsley.

Graveside services will be conducted Sunday, April 15, 2011 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Moore County with Bro. Wayne Smith officiating.

4/16/12 — Floyd Clayton Meeks

Mr. Floyd Clayton Meeks age 68 of Tracy City, Tennessee went to be with the Lord on April 12, 2012.

He was proceeded in death by his wife Dessie Meeks, and his parents James and Delia Meeks.

Survivors include his children Rhonda (Charles) Mclain of Henagar, AL; and Norman (Carolyn) Meeks of Tracy City; grandchildren Kyle and CJ Mclain, and Cody and Samuel Meeks; Brothers and sisters Bud, Clay, Martin, Wilson, Linda, and Mary Meeks.

Mr. Meeks was a member of First Baptist Church, Tracy City.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Ben Curtis officiating.

Burial will be in Gregg Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday 4-8 P.M. at the funeral home.

4/12/12 — Opal Hazen

Ms. Opal Hazen age 93 of Monteagle past away on April 12, 2012 at Emerald Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Ms. Hazen was the wife of the late R.C. Hazen and the daughter of Cassius and Gertrude Moore Hill of Marlette, MI.

Survivors include her daughters Linda (Bill) Anderson of Monteagle, and Carol (Larry) Short of Smyrna; 2 grandsons Gregory Short of Columbia, MD and Steve Short of Smyrna, TN; great- grandson Jeffery Short; sister Audrey (Ken) Morgan of Fulton, MO; and numerous Nieces and nephews.

Private Graveside Services will be held at Roselawn Memorial Gardens Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

4/15/12 — Helen Northcutt

Ms. Helen Northcutt age 88 of Payne’s Cove went to be with the Lord on April 13, 2012 at Manchester Medical Center.

She was born in Sewanee, Tennessee on March 15, 1924 to Felix and Anna Mae Garner. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Northcutt, brothers; Ralph and Bud Garner, sisters; Mary Ann Long, and Lessie Prince.

Survivors include sisters Jean Oliver of Akron, Ohio; and Florence Chapman of Murfreesboro, TN. 3 sons Steve Northcutt, James (Jimmy) Northcutt, and Bobby Northcutt all of Pelham, TN. 2 daughters Joyce Walker of Tullahoma, TN and Connie Meeks of Hillsboro, TN. 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Northcutt was a member of the Congregational Methodist Church in Payne’s Cove.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Sunday in the funeral home chapel with Reverend Mike Rigsby and Reverend Ronnie Trussell officiating.

Burial will be at Oliver Cemetery in Payne’s Cove.

The family will receive friends Saturday 5-9 P.M. at the funeral home.

Officials have enacted a Middle Tennessee Endangered Child Alert for three children missing from White County.
Abrianne Davis, 5, Clifton Rice, 4, and Breanna Rice, 1, were to be placed into protective custody on March 29. Prior to this, they were taken by their non-custodial mother, Tiffany Tolbert-Rice, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.
Abrianne is a white female, hair and eye color are unknown. She is 3’3″ tall and weighs 58 lbs. Clifton is a white male, hair and eye color are unknown. He is 3’2″ tall and weighs 48 lbs. Breanna is a white female, hair and eye color is unknown. She is 2’4″ tall and weighs 35 lbs.
Tiffany Tolbert-Rice is described as a white female with red hair and blue eyes. She is 5’2″ tall and weighs 150lbs.
They may be traveling in a 1999 green Oldsmobile Bravada with TN license plate 722-WFH. Anyone who has seen any of the subjects or the vehicle should contact White County Sheriff’s Office at 931-738-7111 or TBI at 1-800-TBI-FIND.
