Remembering the life of Chad Crabtree... By Barry West

Family and friends of Chad Crabtree remembered the 17 year-old with candlelight ceremony outside Coffee County High School on Friday night. The very much loved Crabtree passed away due to leukemia that he was diagnosed with 2 years ago.  100’s were in attendance to share stories about Crabtree’s life.

The Emcee for the night was Jacqueline Allen. Singers also performed: Leah West HS Student, Karen Wainwright Westwood Teacher sang Amazing Grace and members of the high school choir also paid tribute. A eulogy was given Kathey Allen Westwood Teacher and close friends of Chad.
Funeral services were held yesterday at Westwood Jr. High where Chad attended school at one time with hundreds packing the Joel Vinson Gym.

Future Chefs Work On Skills

Culinary Arts Students from Coffee County Central High School took part in an end of year “Practical Exam” luncheon at the Manchester Coffee County Conference Center on Thursday. Chefs Michael Osborne and Bart O’Dare are mentors for several of the students that participated in the meal.

4/23/12 — Mary Jane Green

Mrs. Mary Jane Green age 67 of Tracy City, Tennessee passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, in Vanderbilt Medical Center in Nashville. Born February 4, 1945 in Tracy City she was a daughter of the Late Lewis and Bessie Lee Johnson Yarworth and was preceded in death by a sister, Eleanor Rose McBee.

Survivors include her husband, Norman Wesley Green; children, Darrin Green, Tracy City, Debra Anderson, Tracy City, Cindy (Eric) Northcutt, Pelham, Kimberly Jane (Joe) Nunley, Tracy City, Rhonda Lee Campbell, Chattanooga; brothers, Stanley, Denver, Carl and Rick Yarworth all of Tracy City; sisters, Marie Turner, Tracy City, Maggie Mae Custer, Michigan, Doris Johnson, Dunlap, TN, Opal McBee and Brenda Dees both of Tracy City; grandchildren, Ryan, Chase, Summer, Jacob, Josh, Patience, Joe and Cindy; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday in the funeral home chapel. The Reverend John Potts and Reverend Ernest Lockhart will officiate.

Burial will be in Orange Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday 4-10 P.M. at the funeral home.

Arrangements are by Foster & Lay Funeral Home, Tracy City, Tennessee.

4/24/12 — Hershel Lee Brown

Mr. Hershel Lee Brown age 70 of Decherd, Tennessee passed away Saturday, April 21, 2012, in Southern Tennessee Medical Center.

He was a truck driver and was retired from Bryant Oil in Tullahoma. Born on December 27, 1941 in Monteagle , he was a son of the late Ulysses Grant Brown and Miriam Lautzenheiser Brown and was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Mae Brown; a daughter, Tonya Minor; brother, Paul “Goob” Brown.

Survivors include his daughter and her husband, Lisa and Brent Ikard, Cartersville, GA; son, Rusty Morris of Decherd; brothers, Grant Brown of Pelham and Carl Brown of Hillsboro; sisters, Flona Lee Burnett, Pelham, Faye Woodall, Decherd, Lotus Douglas, Tullahoma; 5 grandchildren, Brittney, Lauren, Emma Grace, Katilyn and Kaydan, Kayleb; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Minister Bob Winton officiating.

Burial will be in Sherrill Cemetery in Decherd.

The family will receive friends Monday 5-9 P.M. at the funeral home.

Cumberland Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.

4/22/12 — Onetta Armour Parrish

Onetta Armour Parrish, age 93, passed from this life on April 20, 2012 at her home in Manchester, Tennessee with her family by her side.

She was born in Cash, Arkansas to her parents, the late Henry and Ann McAnnally Armour. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Virgil E. Parrish; brothers, George Armour, C.G. Armour and F.R. Armour; and sisters, Mildred Menser and Edoth Hall.

Mrs. Parrish enjoyed sewing and gardening in her younger days. She was a member of the Red Hill Church of Christ.

Mrs. Parrish is survived by her daughters, Georgia (Elliot) Bradley of Lakeland, FL and Anita (Ray) Westberry of Manchester, TN; grandsons, Ronnie (Suzanne) Pinder of Chelmsford, MA  and Larry (Kim) Westberry of Lehigh Acres, FL; granddaughters, Teresa (Joseph) Connor of Franklin, MA and Danita (Patrick) Thomas of Estill Springs, TN; great-grandchildren,Kati Pinder, Alan Clifford, Ashton Thomas, Amanda Clifford, Trey Westberry and Samantha Westberry; many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

Visitation will be on Sunday evening, April 22, 2012 from 7:00 p.m.  until 9:00  p.m. at Central Funeral Home in Manchester, TN.     

A Graveside Service will be conducted on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the Fort Denaud Cemetery in Labelle, FL.

Red Raiders Win Two

Meeker blast a hit in a recent game... By Barry West

The Coffee County Red Raiders played very well in the Trojan Classic over the weekend getting 2 big wins. The Raiders slipped past Wilson Central 4-1 on Friday for their 10th win of the year. Win number 11 came on Saturday against Rhea County. Coffee County came from behind pounding out 10 hits in the 7-6 victory. Peyton Meeker had 5 hits on the day and Kyle Douglas added 2. The Raiders will be back in District 6-AAA play tonight at Warren County and home against the Pioneers on Tuesday.

The Motlow Bucks baseball team beat Roane State 11-2 on Saturday to win the series 2 games to 1. Tyler Murphy hits four home runs in three games. Murphy is 2nd in the nation with 17 this season. Bucks won the opening game on Friday, 14-2. Roane State beat the Bucks 9-2 in game two.

Lady Bucks softball beat Southwest TN 4-1 in game one of a doubleheader. Roxanne Hillman was the winning pitcher. The Lady Bucks dropped game two 5-4 to the Lady Saluqis. Lady Bucks won game one of a doubleheader on Saturday on Fan Appreciation Day, 8-0 over Dyersburg State. Manchester’s Veronica Blackburn hit a 3-run homer. Motlow dropped game two 14-9.

David Legwand scored 13 seconds into the third period, and the Nashville Predators advanced to the Western Conference semifinals with a 4-1 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Friday night. The fourth-seeded Predators capped a season in which they finished ahead of their Central Division rival for the first time by beating the Red Wings for the first time in their third playoff series. Nashville made it even sweeter by handing the Red Wings their earliest postseason departure since a six-game first-round loss to Edmonton in 2006. Legwand added an assist, and Alexander Radulov also had a goal and assist for Nashville. The team that scored first won each game, and that was Nashville again.
