7/6/12 — Margaret Dorothy Jean Garner

Margaret Dorothy Jean Garner, age 78 of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

She was born July 13, 1933 in Tullahoma; the daughter of the late Cecil Benjamin and Emma Idella (Nelson) Clubs.

She was a beautician at Jean’s Beauty Shop for eighteen years.

Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by brother, Doris Clubs, sisters, Irene Woodward, Francis Detrick and Ruthy Harris and great-grandchild, Madison Glenn Tate.

Surviving are husband, Bobby Joe Garner, son, Benjamin Edward Garner of Peoria, IL, daughters, Amy (Richard) Moulton of Layton, UT, Linda (Mitchell) Bradford of Tullahoma, TN, Candy (Darrel) Davis of Tremont, IL and Teresa (Randy) Thome of Washington, IL; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Blackburn and Norma Jean Garner; twenty-seven grandchildren, thirty-one great-grandchildren and her three little dogs, Bam Bam, Squirt and Baby.

A Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Friday in the Moore-Cortner Chapel with the Bishop Joel Davenport officiating.

Interment will be in O’Dear Cemetery, Sewanee, TN.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Thursday, July 5, 2012, at the Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester.

7/5/12 — Carlton Leroy Garner Jr.

Mr. Carlton Leroy Garner Jr., age 81, of Tullahoma, passed away Sunday at McArthur Manor in Manchester.

He is a native of Raleigh, North Carolina and is the son of the late Carlton Leon and Lalla Griffith Garner Sr. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a brother, Frank Garner.

He attended 1st United Methodist Church in Tullahoma, was a US Navy Veteran, serving in the Korean War and was a retired Engineer at A.E.D.C. and was a graduate of North Carolina State University.

The family request that memorial donations be made to First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by 3 daughters, Janet Cunningham of Tullahoma, Mari Jane Garner of Hillsboro, Sharon (Clay) Thomas of Lynchburg, grandchildren, Allison and Ryan Cunningham, Erin and Katie Thomas, brother in law, Bill (Sylvia) Caldwell of Charlotte, NC and sister in law, Ann Garner Watrous of Ashville, NC.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, from 10:00AM until 11:00AM at the Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00AM in the Tullahoma Funeral Home Chapel.

A Private Family Burial will be held at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

7/5/12 — Katherine Riddle Stewart Cates

Mrs. Katherine Riddle Stewart Cates, age 83, passed away Monday at Harton Regional Medical Center.

She was a native of the Awalt Community, in Franklin County; she was the daughter of the late Tobe and Dovie Smith Stewart.

She was a retired CNA from the LifeCare Center of Tullahoma and was of the Methodist faith.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband; George E. Cates and her former husband, Orville Riddle, two brothers; A.C. Stewart and Dalton Stewart, and one daughter; Carole Davis Bearden Moore.

She is survived by two daughters; Nancy (Bob) Lawrence of Tullahoma, Sarah (Steve) McPherson of Vance, AL, one son; Terry Riddle of Tullahoma, 6 grandchildren, 6 great grand children, and 2 great great grandchildren, and her beloved dog Twiggy.

Visitation with the family will be Wednesday, from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at the Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted Thursday, at 10:00AM, at Maplewood Cemetery in Tullahoma with Bro. Billy Ray Painter officiating.

The family suggests that donations be made to the Tullahoma Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 807, Tullahoma, TN. 37388.

7/3/12 — Lydia Jane Moorehead Fanning

Mrs. Lydia Jane Moorehead Fanning age 85 of Lynchburg passed away on June 30, 2012 at her residence after a short illness. Born on May 18,1927, she was a daughter of the late Tillman and Rose Reed Moorehead.

Mrs. Fanning worked for Craftmore Glove Factory and  retired from Delong Sportswear. She  was a homemaker and a member of the Booneville Church of Christ.

Mrs. Fanning is survived by her husband of 68 years, Wilburn Fanning of Lynchburg. Daughters; Linda Harper and her husband Wayne of Lynchburg and Janice Smith of Murfreesboro. Sons; Jerry Fanning and his wife Cindy of Lynchburg and Stanley Fanning and his wife Terry Sue also of Lynchburg. 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Brother, Edwin Moorehead of Adrian, MI and sister, Thelma Word of Estill Springs and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Fanning was preceded in death by her son-in-law Kenneth Smith. Sisters; Dorothy Ashby,Christine Fanning, Nelle Hensley and Sarah Parks and brother, Marvin Moorehead.

Visitation will be held on Monday, July 2, 2012 from 5-9 P.M.

Services are scheduled for 3 P.M. on Tuesday July 3, 2012 at the Lynchburg Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jason Weddington and Bro. Bill Cantrell officiating.

Burial will follow in the Lynchburg Cemetery.

7/5/12 — Dorothy Bell “Dottie” Eldridge

Dorothy Bell “Dottie” Eldridge, of Normandy, passed this life on Saturday, June 30th, 2012 at Life Care Center of Tullahoma at the age of 78.
Mrs. Eldridge was formerly employed as an Office Manager and Security Chief for McDonald Douglas and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and First United Methodist Church in Tullahoma.
Mrs. Eldridge is preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Hegedus; her second husband, Jack Harris; one son, Charles Hegedus; and one brother, Edward Fultz.
She is survived by her husband Lloyd Eldridge of Normandy; three daughters, Babs Pearce and her husband Bob of Winter Springs, FL, Marianna Hegedus of Wexford, PA, and Andrea Rhodes and her husband Richard of Belle Vernon, PA; seven grandchildren, Robert Pearce, Darlene Falcone, Amber Biddle, Emily Kubler, William Sharpless, Rebecca Burns and Sara Ferguson; four great-grandchildren, Keira Pearce, Michael Falcone, Declan Biddle and Ewan Ferguson; and one nephew, Clyde Fultz and his wife Linda.
Visitation for Mrs. Eldridge will be held on Thursday, July 5th, 2012 from 11:00am-1:00pm at Kilgore Funeral Home with a Memorial Service immediately following at 1:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Paul Purdue officiating.
Inurnment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Burned Body Found

On Monday July the 2nd at approximately 1:18am, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office personnel responded to the Awalt Bridge area in reference to a body found on the side of the road. Preliminary reports indicate that a motorist noticed a grass fire, and when they turned around to confirm what they thought was just a grass fire, the motorist discovered a partially burned corpse. Upon arrival, deputies discovered the body of an unidentified white female believed to be anywhere from 18 to 25 years of age. The female has dark hair and a tattoo of a large star with smaller stars on the inside on the back of her neck, and a star tattoo on the top of her right foot. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation are conducting the investigation regarding this matter. Anyone having any information about this incident may contact the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office at 931-967-2331 or the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation at 1-800-TBI-FIND. Further information concerning this incident will be released when deemed appropriate.

 

7/2/12 — Michael A. Elliott


Michael A. Elliott, age 43 of Tullahoma, passed away June 29, 2012.

He was a 1987 graduate of Franklin County High School and later worked for Woody’s Tree Service.

He is preceded in death by his father, John Houston Elliott and a brother, Tony Wayne Elliott.

He is survived by his mother, Ruby Eslick Watson of Belvidere; brothers, Parker Elliott of Winchester, Richard Elliott of Houston TX. and Lester Elliott of Belvidere; several aunts and uncles.

 A graveside service will be conducted at 9 a.m. Monday July 2, 2012 at Winchester Memorial Park.

7/3/12 — Sarah Virginia Holt

Sarah Virginia Holt passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012 at Soddy Daisy Health Care.

She was born in Warren County, Tennessee on June 15, 1924 and lived most of her life in Manchester, Tennessee.

She was a former member of Main Street Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, H. B. and Sally St. John Ramsey, her husband, Leighton, and three sisters, Jane Wiseman, Peggy McKenzie and Leona Campbell.

She is survived by her son David Holt and his wife, Kathy of Hixson, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Joshua Holt of Knoxville, Erin Newcomb, Allison Foreman and her husband, John and Andrew Holt and his wife, Abbie, all of Chattanooga, TN; along with three great grandsons, Luke Newcomb and Beau and Brody Foreman; one sister, Kathryn Hickerson of Manchester and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Monday, July 2, 2012 from 5 – 7 PM at the Coffee County Funeral Chapel.

A brief graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 3 at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, Tullahoma, Tennessee, followed by a Memorial Service at Coffee County Funeral Chapel at 11:00 AM with Bro. J. Lynwood Mathis officiating.

Joshua Holt, Andrew Holt, John Foreman, Stanley Keele, Ray Amos and Don Rhodes will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, Memorial Program – Coffee County, 6221 Shallowford Road, Suite 102, Chattanooga, TN. 37421.

Charles Kenneth “Kenny” Harrison, age 76 of Lynchburg, Tennessee passed away on Saturday, June 30, 2012.

He was born July 29, 1935 in Lynchburg; the son of the late Charles Leo and Christine (Ervin) Harrison.

He was the owner-operator and funeral director for the Charlie Harrison Funeral Home in Lynchburg.

Surviving are son, Charles Terrill (Sarah-Kim Barre) Harrison of Cane Ridge, TN.

A Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Monday in the Jennings Moore-Cortner Chapel.

Interment will be in Lynchburg Cemetery, Lynchburg, TN.
