Tim Dillard tossed seven strong innings, and Ronald Guzman went 4-for-4 with three extra-base hits on Wednesday night, as the Nashville Sounds cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Oklahoma City Dodgers at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. The Sounds improved to 14-5 in August and have won 12 of their last 14 games. The victory gave them a fourth straight winning series.

The Sounds never trailed in the game, taking a 3-0 lead in the second inning on a three-run homer by Jett Bandy. The Sounds have homered in 22 consecutive games with a total of 42 during the streak. Guzman, who had doubled and singled in his first two at-bats, doubled again in the fifth and later scored on a wild pitch by Logan Bawcom, giving the Sounds a 5-0 lead. Then Guzman belted an opposite-field homer in the seventh, and the Sounds made it 7-2 in the eighth with a pair of unearned runs from four Dodgers errors in the frame.

Dillard’s outing was his sixth quality start in his last seven tries and came with the Sounds’ bullpen overworked from the first two games of the series and a suspended game that was completed Tuesday. He gave up two runs on seven hits over seven innings in the win. Yohander Mendez continued the dominant pitching by striking out the side in order in the eighth, and Reed Garrett worked a scoreless ninth to end it.

The Sounds conclude the series Thursday night at 7:05 CT looking for the sweep. Seth Maness (7-4, 5.69) is scheduled to oppose Daniel Corcino (8-6, 4.56).

A second half red card to defender Forrest Lasso turned Nashville SC’s top-of-the-table clash against New York Red Bulls II on its head, resulting in a 2-1 loss for Nashville at First Tennessee Park on Wednesday night. Lasso was shown yellow cards within five minutes of each other midway through the second half, taking off one of Nashville’s best players in its now-ended six match unbeaten streak.

Nashville SC went ahead in the 10’ minute on a corner kick via the head of Ken Tribbett from Lebo Moloto. It was the fourth goal of the season for Tribbett and the ninth assist for Moloto. Much of the rest of the first half was spent defending for Nashville SC and it turned away each New York attack until Red Bulls II finally found a breakthrough just before halftime to equalize.

The sides appeared balanced to start the second half until Lasso was sent off in the 65’ minute. It didn’t take long for Red Bulls II to take advantage, scoring in the 71’ minute off a set piece.

Here are three takeaways from Nashville’s first loss in six weeks.

1) Lasso Loss Stings

Forrest Lasso has been an integral piece to Nashville SC’s backline since his acquisition on loan in late July. His questionable sending off, coupled with head coach Gary Smith’s substitution of Ken Tribbett moments earlier meant that Nashville had to do some reshuffling following the red. New York, the highest scoring team in the Eastern Conference, took immediate advantage by going ahead within five minutes of play restarting following Lasso’s red card.

2) Tribbett Finds the Net Again

Defender turned midfielder Ken Tribbett continued his great offensive play with another goal, giving him four in the USL Championship season. Tribbett notched six last year to lead all defenders, and looks like he could match that offensive output again in 2019. Meanwhile, Moloto’s assist is his ninth of the season to lead the Eastern Conference.

3) Ground to Make Up

With a win, Nashville SC could have moved to first place in the Eastern Conference, jumping New York. Instead, Nashville now sits five points behind first place and is fourth in standings. Nashville still has plenty of opportunities to move up in the standings with matches remaining against second place North Carolina and third place Tampa Bay Rowdies.

Wednesday Prep Schedule

5:30 PM – CHS Volleyball at Whitwell

The Coffee CHS soccer team opened their season on the road on Tuesday in a match you heard here on Thunder Radio.  New head coach Lee Xixis opened his first campaign as head coach with a district road match against the 3 time defending district champions of Lincoln County.  The Lady Raiders controlled the time of possession and Lucy Riddle had a clean sheet in goal as Coffee County won 2 nil.

After peppering the Lincoln County keeper early, the Lady Raiders broke through in the 26^th minute when Maddy Jones scored off a pass from Jayda Wright to give Coffee County the 1 nil lead they would take into the half.  After only getting 1 shot on frame in the first half, Lincoln County picked up the offensive pressure in the 2^nd half as they managed 4 more shots challenging Riddle.  The Lady Raiders adjusted to the Lincoln County flow and swung the momentum back in their favor with 18 minutes remaining in the contest.  Jenna Garrettson intercepted a Lincoln County throw-in and hit a high arching shot over the Lady Falcon keeper in the 78^th minute to seal the outcome.

Coffee County outshot Lincoln County 18 to 5 in the match while winning the time of possession battle.  Riddle finished with 5 saves as she played exceptionally well in the box.  The Lady Raiders got 3 corner kicks to Lincoln County’s 2.

The Lady Raiders return to action on Thursday when they tangle with Franklin County in another district battle on the road.  Opening kick is set for 7 PM at Franklin County High School in Winchester.

The Coffee County CHS volleyball team opened district play on Tuesday welcoming Shelbyville to the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym.  After blitzing Tullahoma on Monday night, the Lady Raiders got their 2^nd straight sweep in dispatching the Eaglettes.  Coffee County won by set scores of 25-13, 25-11 and 25-19.

Coffee County got an amazing 37 kills in the match led by Keri Munn who struck 11. Abigail Parker and Kiya Ferrell each drove home 6.  Coffee County was again effective at the service line as they hammered out 12 aces against 6 service errors.  Amanda Mukai led the Lady Raiders in aces with 5.  Munn and Ferrell each added a pair.   Mukai led the team in assists with 17 while Keelie Hillis picked up 10.  Parker was credited with 6 digs and a block to round out her strong game.  Hillis added 4 blocks, 5 kills and an ace.

The Lady Raiders visit Whitwell on Wednesday for their 1^st road match of the year.  First serve is set for 5:30 PM.

The Temple Baptist Christian School volleyball team hosted Shenandoah Baptist on Tuesday night at the E.C. Bailey Gym.   The balanced Lady Eagle team played nearly flawlessly as they rolled to a 4 set win over the visitors from Cleveland, TN.  Temple won by set scores of 25-14, 25-15, 23-25 and 25-15.  Grace Butler had a strong service game for Temple as she finished with 7 aces including an ace on match point.

The Lady Eagles will take some time off before returning to the court on Friday, August 30^th.  Temple will hit the road as they travel to Calhoun, Georgia to take on Philadelphia Christian School.  Opening serve is set for 4:30 PM EDT.

The Coffee Middle School football team hosted Baylor on Tuesday afternoon in the first home game of the season.  Coming off a pair of heart-breaking road losses, the Red Raiders were looking to get into the win column for the first time this season.  Trailing 24 to 0 entering the 4^th quarter, the Red Raiders rallied but came up short in a 24 to 14 loss.

Cole Pippenger got the Raiders on the board as he scored from 8 yards out.  The 2 point conversion was no good.  Blayne Myers got the Raiders second score as he rattled off a 30 yard touchdown run.  Pippenger added the 2 point conversion on a run to make the final score 24 to 14.

The Raiders will be back at home on Tuesday night when they play host to Harris at Carden-Jarrell Field.  Opening kick is set for 6:30 PM.

The Coffee Middle School volleyball team hit the road on Tuesday traveling to McMinnville.  The Lady Raiders squared off against an always strong Warren County squad looking to win their 4^th match in a row.

The Lady Raiders struggled with hitting errors and passing as they dropped the match in straight sets.  Coffee County fell by set scores of 25-12 and 25-15.  The loss dropped Coffee County to 3 and 1 on the year.  The JV Lady Raiders won their match 2 sets to 1.

The Lady Raiders return home on Thursday for a doubleheader against North Franklin.  The first match is set to get underway at 4:30 PM.

The Westwood soccer team opened their season on Tuesday as they welcomed St. Andrews-Sewanee to Dyer-Bouldin Field.  The young Lady Rockets “played hard and learned lots” said head coach Donna Burdine, but it was not enough to capture a win.  Westwood fell by a final score of 3 to 0.

The Lady Rockets are back in action on Thursday when they welcome Cascade to Dyer-Bouldin Field.  Thunder Radio will be on hand to bring you the broadcast as part of the 1^st National Bank Hometown Sports Series.  Opening kick is set for 5:30 PM.  We will begin live coverage with the pregame show at 5:20.
