CCMS Soccer Falls to Tullahoma on Thursday

The Coffee County Middle School soccer team welcomed Tullahoma to the CCMS pitch on Thursday.  In a match you heard here on Thunder Radio, the Lady Raiders were looking to keep their 2 game winning streak intact.  Despite playing a strong 2nd half, the Lady Raiders fell 3 nil.

Tullahoma dominated the play in the first half as they controlled the time of possession and outshot Coffee Middle 6 to 0 in the opening half.  The Lady Cats scored in the 11th and 18th minutes to carry a 2 nil into the half.  In the 2nd half, the Lady Raiders managed 4 shots on goal but a long Tullahoma through ball netted the Wildcats their 3rd score in the 45th minute to ice the game.  Sydney Gilley had 7 saves in net for the Lady Raiders.

The Lady Raiders travel to Shelbyville on Tuesday for a crucial conference match with Harris.  Opening kick is set for 5:30 PM at Shelbyville Central High School.

Coffee County CHS Volleyball Sweeps Franklin County

Coffee County CHS volleyball team hosted district foe Franklin County on Thursday at “The Patch”.  Needing a crucial win to stay in the hunt in the district race, the Lady Raiders got it.  Coffee County swept the visiting Rebelettes in straight sets 25-13, 25-20 and 25-16.

Coffee County had an outstanding 34 kills on the night while serving 11 aces.  Lexi Bryan led the Lady Raiders in aces with 5 while getting 9 kills.  Kiya Ferrell led Coffee County in kills with 10 while Abigail Parker added 7 kills.  Parker led the team in digs with 5 and Amanda Mukai led the Lady Raiders in assists with 16.

The Lady Raiders are back at home on Monday night when they welcome non-conference foe Oakland.  Thunder Radio will be on hand to bring you that broadcast as part of the 1st National Bank Hometown Sports Series.  Opening serve is set for 6:00 PM.

Westwood Football Gets Big Win at Community

Hitting the road on Thursday night, the Westwood football team traveled to Unionville to take on Community.  The Rockets got their 2nd road win of the year in a 22 to 10 victory of the Vikings.

Westwood jumped out to an early lead on a 60 yard TD run on the first play of the game.  After missing the 2 point conversion, the Rockets led 6 to 0.  Brayden Dixon added a 2nd touchdown in the 1st quarter and after converting the 2 point conversion, Westwood led 14 to 0.  The Rockets tacked on a 3rd touchdown in the 2nd quarter as Carter scored his 2nd touchdown of the game.  Izick Sierra added the 2 point conversion to give Westwood a 22 to 0 lead at the half.

Community scored a touchdown on a trick play in the 2nd half and Westwood took a safety to get out of bad field position in the 4th quarter and preserve the win.  Defensively, Sierra was the driving force behind the Rocket win as he led Westwood in tackles from his linebacker position.

Coffee County CHS Soccer Fights to Draw with Shelbyville

The Coffee County CHS soccer team hit the road on Thursday as they traveled to Shelbyville.  Hoping to move to 4 and 0 in district play, the Lady Raiders battled a dangerous Eaglette team on their home pitch.  After an 80 minute, back and forth physical battle; Coffee County and Shelbyville settled for a 3 to 3 draw.

Shelbyville got on the board first with a goal in the 12th minute.  The Lady Raiders leveled the match with a Katie Cotten goal in the 23rd minute with an assist from Reyna Flores.  Kyleigh Harner gave Coffee County a lead 2 minutes later after an assist from Marley Perry.  Shelbyville knotted the score at 2 in 32nd minute to send the match to the half tied at 2.  In the 2nd half, Jayda Wright scored on a free kick in the 60th minute to put Coffee County up 3 to 2.  The Eaglettes scored in the 69th minute to secure the draw.

Coffee County CHS Golf Falls to Shelbyville

The Coffee County CHS golf team welcomed Shelbyville to Willowbrook on Thursday.  Taking on the Eagles in a 9 hole match, both the Raiders and Lady Raiders fell to the visiting Eagle linksters.  The Red Raiders fell 173 to 167.  The Lady Raiders fell 118 to 92.

The Red Raiders were led by Logan Hale and Chris Robinson who each shot a round of 40.  Chase Hancock fired a 42 and David O’Connor added a 51 for Coffee County.  Avery Hill fired a round of 63 and Caleb Jarrell was 2 strokes back at 65.

For the Lady Raiders, Maddie Crouch shot the Lady Raiders low round as she finished with a round of 56.  Cadie Prater carded a 62 for Coffee County.

The Raider golfers will hit the road on Monday when they head up Highway 55 for a match with the rival Pioneers.  That match will tee off at 4 PM at McMinnville Country Club.

Westwood Cross Country Runners Open Season With Strong Performance

The Westwood cross country team opened their season on Thursday in Bell Buckle in a meet hosted by Webb.  While team scores were not available at press time, 3 Rocket runners and 5 Lady Rocket runners finished in the Top 50 of their respective divisions.

For the Lady Rockets, Ryleah McNamara was the top finisher as she broke the tape in 17th place with a time of 14:15.  Kailee Rossman was right on her heels in 18th place with a time of 14:19.  Jenny Sanchez finished in 40th place with a time of 16:17; Kimberly Garcia finished in 45th place with a time of 16:54 and Reagan Dubler came in 50th place with a time of 17:41.

For the Rockets, Nico Sanfilippo was the top finisher with a time of 11:39 to finish in 6th place.  Aiden Smith came in 13th place with a time of 12:06 and Caleb Cargile was 31st with a time of 12:47.

The Rocket runners will return to action on Tuesday when they will compete in the Coffee County Meet at Old Stone Fort State Park.  The first race will get underway at 4 PM.

Coffee County CHS Cross Country Team Fares Well at Webb School Meet

Coffee County CHS cross country team traveled to Bell Buckle on Thursday to compete in a meet at Webb School. While team scores were not available at press time, the CHS team got an individual win in the boys’ race and a 5th place finish in the girls’ race.

Jacob Rutledge captured the title in the boys’ race and he finished in 1st place with at time of 18:53.75. Other Raider runners in the top 50 were:
Renato Ayala – 7th place with a time of 20:35.15:
Garrett Masters – 18th place with a time of 21:48.26;
Landon Kenney – 24th place with a time of 21:54.86;
Christian Alvarez – 30th place with a time of 22:03.49;
Ethan Welch – 33rd place with a time of 22:29,08;
Jacob Slabaugh – 38th place with a time of 22:4.98.

Patricia Barrera was the top runner for the Lady Raiders as she came in 5th place with a time of 25:12.81. Other Lady Raider runners in the Top 50 were:
Madison Rooker – 17th place with a time of 27:12.24;
Nayeli Cano – 30th place with a time of 28:13;
Zoe Mills – 39th place with a time of 28:49.13.

The Raider runners will return to action on Tuesday when they will compete in the Coffee County Meet at Old Stone Fort State Park. The first race will get underway at 4 PM.

CCMS Cross Country Team Performs Well at Bell Buckle

Coffee County Middle School cross country team traveled to Bell Buckle on Thursday to compete in a meet at Webb School.  While team scores were not available at press time, the Raider harriers captured a race win and 3 top 10 finishes.

The Lady Raiders placed a pair of runners in the Top 3 as Sophie McInturff won the girls’ race and Greenlee Woods captured a 5th place finish.  For the Raiders, Lucas Beaty was the top finisher as he captured a 5th place finish.

The Raider runners will return to action on Tuesday when they will compete in the Coffee County Meet at Old Stone Fort State Park.  The first race will get underway at 4 PM.

9/7/19 — William F. Jones

William F. Jones of Tullahoma, passed this life on Wednesday, September 4,
2019 at his residence at the age of 89. Funeral Services are scheduled on
Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 1 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home with
burial to follow at Maplewood Cemetery. The family will receive friends
beginning at 11 AM.

Mr. Jones, a native of Trinidad, TX, was the son of the late John Earl and
Janie Winters Jones. He was a U S Air Force veteran and worked as an
electrician at AEDC for many years. Mr. Jones was an outdoorsman and
enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and going to the mountains. He also
enjoyed riding horses, four wheelers and motorcycles. Mr. Jones was an avid
sports fan and enjoyed watching his favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys. He
loved the Lord and his family. He was a very dedicated member of Grace
Baptist Church and enjoyed his Sunday School Class.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step-mother,
Margaret Jones; brothers, John Earl Jones Jr., Tom Perryman and Bill
Perryman and sister, Rita Vanderzee.

Mr. Jones is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Bonnie Sue Jones of
Tullahoma; sons, Mike Williamson and his wife, Lisa of Clinton, SC, Mark
Williamson and his wife, Robbie of Tullahoma, Tim Williamson of Dallas, TX,
Greg Williamson and his wife, Jena of St. Joseph, MO and William Jones Jr.
and his wife, Tina of Shelbyville; daughters, Karin Lucas of Mabank, TX and
Bethany Worley of Malakoff, TX; fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great
grandchildren.
