Man In Jail For Threats

A man who allegedly wrote threats to Bedford County students on a bathroom wall at a Lebanon truck stop was arrested Friday afternoon.
Ricky Glenn Petty, 46, of McBurg Road in the Frankewing area of Lincoln County has been charged with filing a false report, Detective Sgt. Brian Crews of the Shelbyville Police Department said.
“There was a threat directed toward schoolyard children in Shelbyville,” Crews said. Police are declining to release the exact wording of the messages.

Booze It and Lose It Underway

The Governor’s Highway Safety Office has announced its final campaign against impaired driving for 2012. The Booze it and Lose It campaign runs now through January 2, 2013. The GHSO partners with local agencies to conduct campaigns throughout the year focusing on impaired driving, speeding, seat belt and child restraint compliance. This particular campaign will focus on impaired driving during the holiday season.

Once again this year, the employees of Coffee County Bank in Manchester are sharing their Christmas spirit and generosity with several local charitable organizations. The staff collects donations through the year by contributing to a fund on “Casual Fridays”. With a group of 38 people participating, the fund grows quickly. This year we are pleased to be able to donate $1,500 back into the community. The employees were asked for suggestions as to where they thought the biggest need was for holiday help in Coffee County. Several groups were suggested and voted upon with Good Samaritan Food Bank, All God’s Children, and Westside United Pentecostal Church of Tullahoma receiving money. The church helps with disadvantage youth.

Local Schools Win Contest

Students at North Coffee Elementary took home the grand prize at the Fuel Up to Play 60 “Titans of Taste” Purity Milk Contest Celebration Luncheon at LP Field. A collaborative effort among the Tennessee Titans, Purity Dairies and the Southeast Dairy Association, the “Titans of Taste” milk contest rewarded schools for increased milk consumption during the month of October. Titans Fuel Up to Play 60 representative Marc Mariani, the Voice of the Titans Mike Keith, Purity Dairies President Mark Ezell, Purity Vice President Tim White and local dairy farmer Randy Davis were on hand for the event. As the contest’s grand prize winner, North Coffee Elementary took home a cash prize of $5,000. The school, which increased milk consumption by 41 percent in October, will also host a pep rally with a Titan’s player, T-Rac (the Titans mascot) and the Titans cheerleaders. A cash prize of $3,000 and Vitamix XL smoothie blenders were presented to the first place winners at Hillsboro Elementary.

12/21/12 — THERESA ROSE GENOVESE MENDEZ-BARBOZA

THERESA ROSE GENOVESE MENDEZ-BARBOZA, age 60, of Elora, Tenn. departed this life on Friday, December 21, 2012 suddenly at her residence.

She was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Frank and Vonnie Genovese.

She was a Christian.  Mrs. Mendez-Barboza had been disabled for several years.  Her hobbies included arts and crafts, tending to her house plants and was in the process of starting a business making clothes for pets.  She was a loving and caring person to all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Jewell Ann Stider.

She is survived by her husband, Juan Mendez-Barboza, daughter, Kristie (Joe) Covington of Estill Springs, Tenn., son, Eric Woodiwiss of Madison, Ala. mother, Vonnie (Howard) Shafer of Inverness Fla., grandchildren; Issac and Mateo Aguayo, brothers; Joe Genovese of Minnesota, Ted Genovese of Indiana and John Shafer of Tampa, Fla.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Grant Funeral Services in  charge of arrangements.

12/27/12 — James Monroe Jefferson

Mr. James Monroe Jefferson, age 85, of Tullahoma, passed away Sunday at Life Care Center.

He was a native of Bunkie, LA and the son of the late James and Ethel Jefferson. Mr. Jefferson was a member of First Baptist Church in Tullahoma, United States Navy Veteran serving in WWII and a retired Truck Driver.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Ruth Jefferson, two children, James M. Jefferson and his wife Sandy, Twila Marie Stroop and her husband Terry, grandchildren, Joe and his wife Angel, Craig and his wife Beth, Jody and his wife Jody, Richie and his wife Amanda, great grandchildren, Kaleb, Mary Kathryn, Owen, Brock, Savannah, Nolen, Lexi, Karson, Hudson, Alex and McKinley.

Visitation with the family will be Thursday, from 10:00AM until 12:00PM at the Tullahoma Funeral Home.

Graveside Services will be conducted Thursday at 1:00PM at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Tullahome Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

12/24/12 —- Kenneth “Buster” Nowlin

Funeral services for Mr. Kenneth “Buster” Nowlin, age 81, of Manchester will be conducted Monday, December 24, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel with Rev. Beth Ezell officiating. 

Interment will follow at New Reddens Cemetery. 

Visitation will be held Sunday from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at the funeral home. 

Mr. Nowlin passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012 at his residence.

He was born March 3, 1931 in Bedford County, Tennessee one of ten children  to the late John Lanier Nowlin and Goldie Martin Nowlin. 

Mr. Nowlin was a retired road construction worker.  Throughout his life he also enjoyed farming and fishing.  He married Naomi Daniel on July 30, 1953 and the two began their family.  He is the father of three fantastic children and six wonderful grandchildren and will be dearly missed by all. 

 In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, John Nowlin, Jr., Sam Nowlin, Ed Nowlin and Frankie Nowlin.

Mr. Nowlin is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Naomi Daniel Nowlin of Manchester; son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Dewaine Nowlin and wife, Patti; son and daughter-in-law, Horace Lanier Nowlin and wife, Cindy; and daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Naomi Nowlin Johnson and husband, Neal; six grandchildren, Krista Hale and husband, Matt; Kelsey Nowlin; Tyler Nowlin; Cody Nowlin; Haley Johnson and Sara Johnson.  Also surviving are three sisters, Mammie Crosslin; Pauline Holden and husband, Ned; Judy Carter and husband, Lynn; Elizabeth Shelton; and a brother,  Dave Nowlin and wife, Judy and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and loving friends.

The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Minnie Pearl Cancer Foundation, 310 25th Avenue North, Suite 103, Nashville, TN  37203.

12/23/12 — Loretta Jacobs

Loretta Jacobs of Manchester, Tennessee passed away on December 16, 2012 at Vanderbilt Medical Center.  She was 29.

Ms. Jacobs attended Coffee County Central High School.  She enjoyed listening to music and singing.

Ms. Jacobs is preceded in death by her parents, Rosetta Jacobs and Carey Dale Jacobs.

She is survived by her daughters, Thelma Norris and Alison Jacobs both of Manchester; sisters, Felicia Jacobs of Manchester, Tonya Jacobs of Shady Grove; brothers, Darren (Candice) Jacobs of Shady Grove, Joshua and Danny Jacobs both of Manchester; several uncles, aunts, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 23, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Phillip Cleek officiating.

Interment will follow in Zion Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 22, 2012 from 4-8 P.M. at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel.
