5/16/14 —– Carrie Lee Osborn

Mrs. Carrie Lee Osborn, age 70 of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away, Friday, May 09, 2014, at Lynchburg Nursing Center. Memorial Services will be held Friday, May 16 at 8 PM at the Restoration Baptist Church, 1605 E. Lincoln Street, Tullahoma, TN with Bro. Daniel Boyd officiating.

In addition, Memorial Services will be held, Saturday, May 24 at 2 PM at the Central Christian Church, 1006 W. 3rd Street, Marion, IN with Pastor Donald Smothers officiating.

A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Earl C. and Martha B. Smith Simpson.

flower 13Mrs. Osborn was a homemaker who enjoyed camping, gardening, reading, baking and making jewelry.  She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph Simpson and one sister, Louise Coley.

Mrs. Osborn is survived by her husband Jerry Joe Osborn of Tullahoma; two daughters, Terri Campbell and her husband, Phillip of Manchester and Donna Osborn Clark and her husband, Robert of Greenwood, IN; four brothers, Walter Simpson of Noblesville, IN, Wade Simpson and his wife, Kathy of Gallatin, TN, Wayne Simpson and his wife, Juanita of Indianapolis and James Simpson of Indianapolis; four sisters, Callie Robins of Mooresville, IN, Emma Sutton of Monrovia, IN, Beulah Simpson of Indianapolis, IN and Sandy Gailbreath and her husband, Paul of Martinsville, IN; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made in her honor at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.

No Changes After Votes Are Recounted

recountThe Coffee County Election Commission has recounted the votes from last Tuesday’s election. The commission decided to recount after a computer problem during the Election Day count. The commission members hand counted the votes from the voting machine tape and finished the process on Friday. The final vote count that was given to the media on Tuesday matched perfectly with the recount.
Winners in the countywide races were: County Mayor; Tim Brown, Trustee; Rodney Banks, Register of Deeds; LeAnn Hollandsworth Partin, General Sessions Judge Part II; Jere Ledsinger and Road Superintendent; Steve Moran. All of those winners will face republican competition in August. Moran will also face an independent candidate for Road Superintendent.
On August 7th the general election for county races will be held along with city elections and primaries for statewide seats.

Murder Case Heads To Grand Jury

Kyle Wallace, 25, of Bains Road, Hillsboro is facing murder charges. The case has been bound over to the June term of the Coffee County Grand Jury.
Wallace was charged with criminal homicide in the death of Donovan Denlinger, 23, of Florida.
On Saturday night, Jan. 11th at approximately 11:15 pm Manchester Police Department answered a call of a person with an injury to his chest at 620 Woodrow St., Manchester, TN. This injury was the result of an altercation between two individuals.
Denlinger, was pronounced dead at United Regional Medical Center due to a stab wound to the chest.
According to a police report, after arguing for a few minutes, Wallace allegedly took a knife and stabbed Denlinger in the chest.
Attorney Bobby Carter represented Wallace and Assistant District Attorney Kristy West prosecuted the case.

Tullahoma Restaurant Reopens After Fire

The Sonic restaurant on North Jackson Street reopened Monday, May 5 after repairs were completed following an April 10 electrical fire.
“Everything is back to normal” said owner Brian Young.
The April fire started in the back of a fryer, causing “moderate damage” to the kitchen area. The building quickly filled with smoke and the fire department was notified.
According to Fire Chief Richard Shasteen, the kitchen area of the restaurant suffered the “moderate damage.”
No one was injured in the fire.

College Tuition Could Be On The Rise

Tenn Board of RegentsTuition increases could be in store for many college students in Tennessee.
The Tennessean reports that some public universities could see increases of between 4 and 8 percent to offset reduced state funding. Community college students, like those at Motlow could see an increase of between 2.6 and 10.6 percent.
Officials at a Tennessee Board of Regents Finance Committee meeting on Thursday reviewed estimated increases at each school.
The University of Memphis submitted a plan to avoid an increase. Projected increases at other schools varied.
Officials say the numbers are preliminary. Formal tuition proposals will be ready on May 27.

“Ride for Reading” In Tullahoma

The Tullahoma Police Department Bicycle Patrol joined up with the Highland Rim Bicycle Club recently for a special event at a local school.
The Highland Rim Bicycle Club delivered books to Farrar Elementary School students as part of “Ride for Reading”.
The mission of “Ride for Reading” is to promote literacy and healthy living by donating books via bicycle to children.
Two of the Tullahoma Police Bike Patrol officers that rode in the event, they were Chase Sons and Derrick Derlien.

5/12/14 —- Dr. William Terrell (Terry) Moore

Dr. William Terrell (Terry) Moore, 69, of Tullahoma passed away on May 9, 2014.

He was born in Tampa, Fl on August 22, 1944, to the late Ovella Milbria King and  flower 12James William Moore.

He married Mary Jane Jewell Banta on July 25, 1970 in West  Lafayette, Indiana. He received his doctorate in Biological Sciences from Purdue  University in West Lafayette, Indiana and completed post doctorate studies at
the University of Pennsylvania. He worked as the director of environmental  services operations for ACS in Tullahoma and as program manager of environmental  services at General Physics corporation in Columbia, Md.

He was an active member  of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served others by helping
them with their genealogy. He loved music (especially cowboy music) and played  both the piano and cello. He loved gardening, fishing, woodworking and chocolate  chip cookies.

He is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Robert Banta.

He is  survived by Mary Jane Moore (spouse), daughters, Melissa Renee’ Banta (Sean),  Valerie Jewell Russell (Lyle) and Amanda Melanie Shackleford (Jonas), Conrad  Stout, who he thought of as a son, 12 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and  his faithful dog Ranger.

Anyone is welcome to attend graveside services on  Monday, May 12, at 10:00 am at Maplewood Cemetery in Tullahoma.

5/12/14 —- Ray Whitmire

Ray Whitmire of Tullahoma, passed this life on Friday, May 9th, 2014 at his residence at the age of 84.

Mr. Whitmire was born in Gunnersville, Alabama to the late George Lee and Samantha Jane Lawson Whitmire.

Mr. Whitmire was a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served during the Korean Conflict.

During his life, he worked as a Lineman with South Central Bell and was a member of Rutledge Falls Baptist Church, as well as the Telephone Pioneers.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Whitmire; five sisters, Irene Millaway, Juanita Collins, Beatrice Baker, Frances Gilliam, and Faye Doney; and one brother, George L. Whitmire.

Mr. Whitmire is survived by his step-son, Mike Thomas and his family of Fayetteville; several nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Mr. Whitmire will be held on Monday, May 12th, 2014 at 11:00 am at Kilgore Funeral Home with graveside services following at 12:00 pm at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with Rev. Charles Houston officiating.

5/14/14 —- SAMUEL GRANT BOWLING

SAMUEL GRANT BOWLING, age 66, of Winchester, Tenn., departed this life on Friday, May 09, 2014, at his residence following an extended illness.

Mr. Bowling was born on Feb. 14, in Sewanee, Tenn., to the late Sam and Lila Grant Bowling.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winchester.  Mr. Bowling was employed for approximately thirty-seven years as an X-Ray Technician.  His last employment was with Emerald-Hodgson Hospital in Sewanee. His favorite hobbies were collecting antique cars and tractors.  Mr. Bowling will be remembered as a loving and caring brother and uncle.

He is survived by his brother, Edward Bowling and wife, Christine, sister, Faye Carter and husband Joe all of Winchester, nieces and nephews; Cristy Bowling, David Hoffmeister, Dianna Sheely and Philip Hoffmeister.

A Graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 14, at Franklin Memorial Gardens in Winchester with Hospice Chaplin Jack Nichols, officiating.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made in Mr. Bowling’s memory to First United Methodist Church in Winchester or the Franklin County Historical Society at P.O. Box 130, Winchester, TN  37398.
