10/21/19 — Howard “Leroy” Wilkerson
Howard “Leroy” Wilkerson, 59, of Winchester, TN passed away Saturday,
October 12, 2019 at St. Thomas West Hospital, surrounded by his loving
family. He was born in Nashville, TN on May 31, 2019 to Helen Wilkerson and
the late William Chatman.
In addition to Mr. Chatman, Leroy was preceded in death by his step-father,
Jessie Johnson Sr., one brother, William R. Chatman Jr, and one sister,
Linda Luckey
He is survived by his mother, Helen Johnson; two daughters, Kia Elliot and
Sharnai Foster; five brothers, Ricky Johnson (Donna), Jessie Johnson Jr.,
Michael Johnson, Steven Chatman (Darnee) and William Calvin Chatman
(Tanya); six sisters, Pamela Draine, Lisa Turrentine (Harold), LaTonya
Minard (Frank), Emily Shropshire (William), Ophelia Morris (Walter), and
Wanda Hodges (Jonathan); and two grandchildren, as well as host of nieces,
nephews, and extended family.
Leroy was a faithful member of the First Seventh-Day Adventist Church on
Horton St. in Decherd and loved the Lord. He was a self-proclaimed “Clever
Little Hustler’ who loved to stay busy and loved his family.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 21st, 2019 at
Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home at 1:00 PM with a visitation starting at
12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Watson North Memorial Park in Winchester, TN
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to
Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home in Mr. Wilkerson’s honor.

Only two arrests from Exit 111 weekend
As the Exit 111 Festival leaves town, Coffee County Sheriff Chad Partin reports that there were only two arrests brought into the Coffee County Jail over the entire weekend. According to Partin, one arrest was for disorderly conduct and the other for a domestic situation.
Partin said it was a “calm weekend.”
While official ticket sales have not been released, it is anticipated that between 20,000 and 25,000 tickets were sold for the inaugural festival.

Grundy Co. officials make arrest after 3-hour standoff
Grundy County Sheriff’s officials made on arrest after a standoff with a suspect Sunday.

Matthew Chase Nunley, 155 Coke Oven Rd. in Coalmont, allegedly fired a shot and threatened someone who came to his residence looking for his estranged daughter.
Nunley locked himself in the house when deputies arrived. Sheriff Clint Shrum reportedly told the Grundy County Herald that after several failed attempts to make contact with Nunley, the Franklin County SWAT entry team was called to the scene. Nunley, who is 35 years old, eventually surrendered without incident after a three hour standoff.
Manchester Police need help identifying subjects
The Manchester Police Department is seeking the public’s help identifying two individuals who were allegedly involved in an incident at the Manchester Walmart on October 10.

Coffee County Middle School 6th Grade Basketball Sweeps Warren County

The Coffee County Middle School 6th grade basketball teams hosted their home opener on Monday night as they welcomed Warren County to the CCMS gym. The Lady Raiders used a strong 3rd quarter to grab a 29 to 6 win. The Red Raiders held off a 2nd half charge by Warren County to capture a 29 to 20 win.
After a cold shooting first half, the Lady Raiders took a 7 to 2 lead into the halftime break. Coffee County erupted for 18 points in the 3rd quarter to settle the outcome. The Lady Raiders were led in scoring by Natalie Barnes who finished with 16 points. Ella Arnold added 8 points and Morgan Spears finished with 4.

The Red Raiders charged out to a 10 point lead at the half but had to weather a Warren County rally to lead by 4 entering the 4th quarter. Coffee Middle outscored the Pioneers 10 to 5 in the 4th quarter to grab the win. The Red Raiders were led in scoring by Jace Cashion who had 8 points. Landon Abellana added 7 points and Alex Kilgore chipped in 6 points in the win.
The Raiders and Lady Raiders will be back at home on Tuesday as they welcome West Tullahoma to CCMS. The girls’ game will tip off at 6 PM.
Temple Baptist Christian School Volleyball Closes Regular Season with Doubleheader Split

The Temple volleyball team traveled to Madison, Alabama on Monday night to take on Madison Baptist Academy and Franklin Road Christian of Murfreesboro in a tri-match. Coming off a 2nd place finish in a tournament in Lexington, KY on Friday and Saturday, the Lady Eagles were taking on more strong competition. Temple managed a split on the night.
Temple opened the night with a 2 set loss to Franklin Road. The Lady Eagles lost by set scores of 23-25 and 25 to 18. In the first set, Temple raced out to a 7 to 1 lead only to see Franklin Road tie the game. In the 2nd set, Franklin Road used 4 service aces to build a lead of 17 to 5 as they grabbed the straight set win.
The Lady Eagles bounced back in the nightcap to grab a straight set win over the host Madison Baptist team. Temple got 8 service aces to grab the win by set scores of 25-18 and 25-18. Trailing 7 to 5 in the 1st set, Temple rallied for 8 straight points to take a lead they would not relinquish. Trailing 11 to 7 in the 2nd set, the Lady Eagles rolled off 11 straight points to seize control.
The doubleheader ends the regular season for Temple. The Lady Eagles have accepted an invitation to compete in a post season tournament in December to be held in Lexington, KY.
