Armed Robber Hits Again

armed robberyFor the second time in a week an area business was robbed at gunpoint. On Monday Tims Ford Liquor store on the Cowan Hwy in Winchester was held up. The person involved in the crime was described as being a black male holding a black handgun and he was wearing a black mask. The man forced the clerk into a backroom and then took an undisclosed amount of money and fled. Winchester Police is investigating and searching for the suspect.
Last week Carroll St. Liquors was robbed at gunpoint in Tullahoma by an unknown subject. Chief Paul Blackwell told WMSR News that the subject looks very similar to the person involved in other robberies in the area. The subject entered the store, grabbed the clerk, and held them at gunpoint while demanding money from the cash register. The stores surveillance system shows the suspect entering the store from the west and exiting in the same direction.

Two Republican State Senators Want To Repeal Common Core

common-coreTwo Republican state senators have filed legislation to repeal the state’s Common Core standards.
The measure would set up a so-called Tennessee Standards Commission that would recommend to the State Board of Education standards to be used in the state’s K-12 public schools.
Senate Education Committee Chairwoman Dolores Gresham and Senate Government Operations Committee Chairman Mike Bell say the move is designed to ensure Tennessee students continue to improve by applying the highest standards, while exerting state control over education.
Several attempts to repeal the standards failed during the last legislative session. Lawmakers did manage to delay the testing component of the standards.
Gresham told The Associated Press on Monday she believes she will get the support she needs to pass the proposal.
