Sounds 8-Game Winning Streak Ends

SoundsAfter winning eight straight games, the Nashville Sounds finally lost, falling to the Salt Lake Bees, 2-1 on Tuesday night at First Tennessee Park.

After not trailing since the fourth inning of Saturday’s 6-1 win over Las Vegas, the Sounds fell behind in the fourth inning as Jett Bandy’s solo shot gave the Bees a 1-0 lead.

Salt Lake built on that lead in the 5th inning, chasing Sounds starter Brad Mills from the game. C.J. Cron hit his second double off the veteran southpaw, plating Kyle Kubitza who battled back from down 0-2 to draw a two-out walk the at bat before. As he’s done all season, Pat Venditte came out of the pen and stranded the runner. He also threw a scoreless sixth inning, lowering his ERA to 1.36.

The Sounds cut the lead in half in the latter part of the seventh. Catcher Bryan Anderson lined a double down the right field line to score Ryan Roberts. Bees starter Drew Rucinski entered the action with a 1-4 record and a 7.04 ERA, but yielded just that run over seven innings on the night. The Sounds loaded the bases with one out off the freshly demoted Los Angeles Angel Vinnie Pestano, but Jason Pridie and Nate Freiman both popped out and the threat was averted.

The Sounds and Bees will play game two Wednesday night at First Tennessee Park. Both teams will send their top pitching prospects to the mound as Chris Bassitt matches up with Andrew Heaney on Beatles Night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

A Manchester man is being held in the Coffee County Jail under a $50,000 bond after being arrested on public indecency charges following an incident in the Family Dollar Store on the Hillsboro Blvd.
28 year old David C. Harper of Hillsboro Highway was charged with indecent exposure, public indecency and vandalism following an incident inside the store.
Harper is accused of committing an indecent act at the Family Dollar location. Store officials say that an employee witnessed Harper committing the act.

After allegedly committing the act, Harper left and was later arrested at the Trucker’s Inn by Jones and Officer Ernie Colvin.
Harper is scheduled to appear in Coffee County General Sessions Court July 28.

Local Gas Prices On The Rise

Gas prices could finally be reaching their peak as the rate of increase at the pump is beginning to stall. Since last Sunday, the average price for gasoline rose 1-cent in Tennessee. In Coffee County the price went up drastically especially in Manchester where the low price per gallon jumped 14 cents to $2.49. In Tullahoma the low price went up by just one-cent to $2.37.
“Gas prices usually peak by May, but have been rising on the back of crude oil prices and increasing demand,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group. “The price of crude oil has found a new normal around $60 a barrel, and it’s likely that gas prices will decline in June.
Oil settled at $60.30 a barrel Friday after trading as low as $56.51 last week. The highest daily settlement this year was $60.93 a barrel on May 6.

BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee Might Raise Rates

BlueCross BlueShield of TennesseeTennessee’s biggest health insurer has proposed raising premiums next year by an average of more than 36 percent.
The Chattanooga Times Free-Press reports BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee lost $141 million during its first year of offering individual health plans through the federal Affordable Care Act.
The insurer says it initially underestimated the number and cost of the medical claims filed by new enrollees.
Last year, the insurer enrolled nearly two-thirds of the 231,000 Tennesseans who signed up for health insurance exchange plans.
The deadline for state regulators to make a decision about the proposed rate hikes is August 25th. If approved, average individual rates would rise to more than 60 percent above their 2014 levels.

Tennessee 4th Dangerous State

tennessee flagA new study conducted by the financial website WalletHub ranks Tennessee as the fourth most dangerous state to live.
While some might think safety is measured by the crime rate, it’s not the only contributing factor. For instance, Tennessee was ranked 41st in safe driving and 36th in DUI arrests.
Department of Highway Safety officials said the lack of seat belt use and DUIs were two major contributing factors to fatalities in Tennessee. Both areas are Tennessee Highway Patrol initiatives this year.
According to WalletHub, Tennessee is also the third most dangerous state for natural disasters based on 10 years of monetary damage.
While Nashville has a low murder rate, the state is worse than average. Tennessee is the 15th most likely state to be murdered in.
Tennessee also has the third highest assault rate in the country and the 11th most sex offenders.
The state topped the list of number of drug arrests per capita. Officials with the Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse said they are working on improving that statistic.
