7/2/15 —- Philip Andrew Pavone Sr.

Philip Andrew Pavone Sr, age 90 of Tullahoma, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2015 at his residence.

Memorial Services will be announced later.

A native of Englewood, NJ, he was the son of the late Pasquale and Rachela Menna Pavone.

He was a decorated U S Army veteran, serving in WW II and earning a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He served during the Normandy Invasion, 2nd Wave Omaha Beach. After being discharged from the Army he became a banker.

Mr. Pavone was always very involved with his children’s activities as they were growing up. He was involved with Little League in New Milford, NJ where he served as president, district administrator and coach. There is a Little League field in New Milford named in his honor. He also was a very active Boy Scout Leader.

Mr. Pavone enjoyed fishing and bowling and was a member of a bowling league in Tullahoma. He always enjoyed being outdoors, going for walks and attending street fairs and concerts. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, Martha Gilman Pavone and Florence Kniele; one son, Philip A. Pavone Jr; three brothers, Dominic, Tony and Frank Pavone and two sisters, Rose DiDonato and Emily Link.

Mr. Pavone is survived by two sons, Eugene Pavone and his wife, Kerry of E. Stroudsburg, PA and George Pavone of Bunnell, FL; one daughter, Rachela Pavone Ennesser of Tullahoma; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Pavone of Lake Worth, FL; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Pavone of E. Stroudsburg, PA, Kimberly Pavone of Rock Hill, SC, Philip Ennesser of Tullahoma, John Ennesser of Enfield, CT, Alan Ennesser of Canaan, CT, Jessica Meyerscough and her husband Donald of Green Acres, FL and Jaclyn Pavone of Lantana, FL and his constant companion, “Reba”, the Dachshund.

7/9/15 —- Emil Edward Krafft

Emil Edward Krafft, age 94 of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away, Friday, July 3, 2015 at NHC due to complications following catastrophic strokes.

Memorial Services will be held Thursday, July 9, at St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church at 10 AM with Father Stephen Klasek officiating.

He was the son of the late Frank F. C. Krafft of Munich, Bavaria, Germany and the late Fanny L. Baldenhofer Krafft of Freudenstadt, Wurttemberg, Germany.

He is survived by his wife of 74 years, the former Eugenie Alice Paull, originally of Ponchatoula, LA; four daughters, Mary Jean Moore and her husband, James of Covington, LA, Katherine Alice Butler and her husband, Bernard S of Brentwood, TN, Karen Elizabeth Fatheree of Humble, TX and Candace Anne Lynch and Brian S of Normandy, TN; eight grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Christopher Edward, who died shortly after his birth.

He was a native of Ponchatoula, LA, where he graduated public schools. He served in the U S Navy from 1939 to 1947 and attained the rank of Chief Electrician’s Mate, sailed the seven seas (advanced from a Polywog to a Shellback on February 29, 1944 on a Secret Mission of War) and participated in many combat operations. He received the following awards: American Defense & Letter “A”; American Area; European – African Area; Victory – World War II; Navy Unit Commendation; and the Cold War Certificate of Recognition. He attended Southeastern Louisiana College for two years, where he was honored by being selected to the “Thirteen Club”, and continued his education at Tulane University from which he graduated in 1951, with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. While at Tulane, he was a member of Delta Sigma Phi social fraternity and was elected to the Tau Beta Pi Honorary Engineering fraternity.
Upon graduation, he was employed by Kaiser Aluminum & Chemical Corporation as a Safety Supervisor, followed by E. I. DuPont & Co, Inc., as a Construction Engineer and Mechanical Design Engineer. From 1955 until 1987, he was employed by Aro, Inc. as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Test and Installation Engineering Supervisor, Manager of Mechanical Support, Construction Manager on projects in Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Taiwan, as a consultant.

veteran 1He served in many local, state and national Society of Professional Engineers offices, including President of the local chapter. He was a life member of Taiwan VFW 727. He was a member of St. Paul the Apostle Catholic Church in Tullahoma.

In lieu of flowers, Mr. Krafft requested that donations be made in his name for the elderly and be given in care of the donor’s pastor.

7/7/15 —- Martha J. Coppage Galligan

Martha J. Coppage Galligan, age 80 of Tullahoma, Tennessee passed away, Friday, July 3, 2015 at Harton Regional Medical Center.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 7 at 2 PM at the Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Visitation with the family will be Monday, July 6 from 5 – 8 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Galligan, a native of Owensboro, KY was the daughter of the late Orville and Mary Coppage.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Normandy. She and her husband, Billy Doyle Galligan owned and operated several local businesses: Galligan’s Candy, a wholesale candy distributer; Campus Grill in Winchester and Galligan’s Grocery of Tullahoma. Mrs. Galligan loved to watch any type of sporting events on TV but her favorite was Football and Basketball games. Her favorite teams were the Indianapolis Colts and the Kentucky Wildcats. She also enjoyed playing rook and bingo with her friends at Brookdale.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Billy Doyle Galligan; one son, James Doyle Galligan; two brothers, Daryl and Kenneth”Buddy” Coppage and one sister, Frances Hamilton.

She is survived by daughter-in-law, Debbie Penn and her husband, Chris of Tullahoma; two grandchildren, Kim McAfee and her husband, Greg of Manchester and Dana Hale and her husband, Chris of Estill Springs; three great grandchildren, Courtney and Kenna Hale and Liberty McAfee; brother-in-law, Jerry Hamilton of Elizabethtown, KY and nephews, Robbie and Todd Hamilton of Elizabethtown, KY.

7/6/15 —— Lorene Burton

Lorene Burton age 92 of Tullahoma TN. passed away Thursday July 2, 2015 at Harton Hospital in Tullahoma TN.

A native of Moore Co. TN., she was formerly employed at Lannom Co., Wilson Sporting Goods Co., and Business Cards Inc. in Tullahoma., and was a member of Hoover’s Grover church of Christ. Mrs. Burton enjoyed cooking, gardening, cross stitching and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Burton was the daughter of the late Ben Limbaugh and Mollie Weddington Limbaugh.

She was also preceded in death by her husband Robert Burton, sister Irene Smith, and brother Fred Limbaugh.

Mrs. Burton is survived by son Jim (Carol) Burton of Lynchburg, daughter Brenda Pollock of Tullahoma, sister Thelma (Clofton) Smith of Tullahoma TN, . Grandchildren Trent (Quintina) Burton of Murfreesboro TN, Wendy (Dave) Wilkerson of Tullahoma TN, Jennifer Pollock of Tullahoma TN, and Meridith Burton of Lynchburg TN. And great-grandchildren Trystyn and Alyia Burton of Murfreesboro TN and Preston Wilkerson of Tullahoma TN.

The Family will receive friends on Sunday July 5 from 4 PM to 8 PM at Lynchburg Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held Monday July 6 at 11 AM at the Lynchburg Funeral flower vase 3

Burial will follow at the Lois Cemetery.

7/6/15 —– Wilma Jeanne (Cloer) Horton

Wilma Jeanne (Cloer) Horton, 78, of Tullahoma, also known as “Ms. Jeanne” and “Mrs. Horton” to her friends and former students, passed away on Thursday, July 2nd, 2015 in the comfort of her home.

Visitation will be held from 5:00-8:00 pm on Sunday, July 5th, 2015 at Kilgore Funeral Home in Tullahoma.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, July 6th, 2015 at 1:00 pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wanda Charlene Guider officiating.

Graveside services will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Horton was a long-time native of Tullahoma. She graduated from Tullahoma High School in 1954 and went on to attend Middle Tennessee State College. It was there, she met her husband CMSGT Jimmie H. Horton, to whom she was married for 57 years. Following her military husband, she taught in Moses Lake, Washington, Guam, Wiesbaden and Ramstein, Germany, Mascoutah, Illinois, and East Lincoln Elementary in Tullahoma, where she completed her career in education. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Phi Delta Kappa, TEA, NEA, and was a past President of the TEA in Tullahoma.

She was the daughter of the late R.L. and Charity Cloer, and the niece of Marie Cloer Bailey.

She is survived by her husband, Retired Chief Master Sergeant Jimmie H. Horton of Tullahoma; three children, Reed Horton of Tullahoma; Cheryl Griggs and her husband Tony of Gallatin, and Dale Horton and his wife Kris of Orlando, Florida; one sister, Diane Cloer Stanek and her husband Dennis of Memphis; six grandchildren, Rebekah Horton Cochran, Ambralin Griggs, Alexis Griggs Hunt, Bradley Horton, Abigail Horton, and Andrew Horton; and her niece and nephew, Holly and Doug Stanek.

flower 19Jeanne was a compassionate teacher, avid bowler, loyal friend, and loving mother who will be missed, but know she is “in the loving arms of Jesus,” as said by a great friend.

Coffee County senior pitcher Brianna Jones was named to the Tennessee Sports Writers Association All-State team for Class AAA. Jones, who just completed her sterling career at CHS, was the only member of District 8AAA to be included on the All-State team and one of 3 team members from Region 4-AAA.

Thursday Coffee County Fastpitch League Update

softball 8Rain forced the cancellation of games for the second night in a row for the Coffee County Fastpitch League on Thursday night.  The league will try to get back to action on Friday night with a pair of 8U games that are scheduled for Fred Deadman Park.  Friday’s Schedule looks like this:
