Coffee County Middle School Football Tames Whitwell Tigers on Tuesday Night

Three touchdowns in the first 7 offensive plays, and a punt return for a touchdown on their next possession gave the Coffee County Middle School Raider football team a 30 to 0 lead after 1 quarter as they opened their season on Tuesday night with a 38 to 8 win over Whitwell. In a game broadcast on Thunder Radio, the Raiders rolled up 113 yards of offense in the first half. The Red and Black defense forced a turnover and held Whitwell to 4 yards of offense in the first half in the convincing win. Hayden Skipper scored the first of his 2 first quarter touchdowns from 21 yards out on the 2nd play of the game and Blanton Brown scampered 9 yards on a quarterback keeper in the 2nd possession to give the Raiders all the points they would need.

Brandon Jernigan had a pair of 2 point conversions to make it 16 to 0 with 3:25 left in the first quarter. Both Brown and Skipper added touchdowns as Skipper got a 30 TD run while Brown returned a punt 43 yards to put the game on ice after 8 minutes. JT Bush added a 2nd half touchdown run from 14 yards out and Tanner Hulvey and Adam Petty added 2 point conversions on the night for the Red Raiders.
Whitwell’s lone score came on an 81 yard run by Cole Burns in the 3rd quarter. Even with the 81 yard run, the Raider defense held Whitwell to 99 yards of total offense on the evening. Coffee County finished the night with 233 yards of offense and committed no turnovers. The Raiders were also whistled for only 3 penalties on the night as Coach Brock Freeze was able to rest a lot of starters in the second half.

For their outstanding play, Skipper and Brown were named the Thunder Radio Co-Players of the Game. With the win, Coffee County opens the season with a record of 1 and 0. The Red Raiders will take off next Tuesday before returning to the gridiron on Tuesday, August 25th as they open conference play at Tullahoma. The battle of rivals will take place at Wilkins Stadium with kickoff set for 6:30 PM.
Westwood Soccer Steamrolls Liberty on Tuesday

Five 1st half goals by the Westwood Lady Rocket soccer team powered the ladies in blue to a season opening win at Liberty on Tuesday night. The Lady Rockets got goals from 6 different players as Westwood got the 10 to 0 win over their conference rivals from Shelbyville. Beatris Barrera, Faith Willoughby, Jimelda PenaLoza, Clarrisa Barrera, Reyna Flores and Nayeli Ramirez all found the back of the net for Westwood. Westwood will play their first home match of the season on Thursday, August 20th as they welcome Cascade to Dyer-Boulding Field for a conference match. Kick off is scheduled for 5:30 PM.
CCMS Volleyball Sweeps Fayetteville on Tuesday
Maintaining their momentum from this past weekend, the Coffee County Middle School volleyball team opened the regular season with a straight sets win over Fayetteville on Tuesday night. The JV Lady Raiders also won their matchup as each team starts the season with perfect marks. The Lady Raiders will be back on the road on Thursday as they travel to Shelbyville to take on Harris. First serve in that match is scheduled for 6:00 PM. They follow that up with a trip to Fayetteville on Friday and Saturday for the Lincoln County Tournament.
CHS Soccer Blanks Ooltewah in Scrimmage Action on Tuesday

An effective passing performance lifted the Coffee County Central High School Lady Raider soccer team to a 3 to 0 win over Ooltewah on Tuesday night in scrimmage action. The varsity Lady Raiders used their final scrimmage of the preseason to polish up their offense in the convincing win. Effective play on the back line kept the talented Lady Owls off the scoreboard for the night. The Lady Raiders are set to open the regular season on Monday at Riverdale in a 7:00 PM contest. The JV Lady Raiders will complete their preseason scrimmage action this weekend as they host a JV Play day behind the Raider Academy. Thunder Radio and the Coffee Coaches Show will keep you updated on that schedule later this week.
Two Women Arrested On Several Charges
According to warrants obtained by Officer Cody Brandon of Tullahoma, an individual reported that her vehicle had been broken into and items were taken. The victim told the officer that she followed a path of their belongings to a room at the Executive Inn on North Jackson Street
When Officer Brandon went to the room, he saw items sitting out in plain view that had been from the vehicle. There were several other items in the room that had been taken, according to the warrants.
Officers also allegedly found drug paraphernalia in the room as well as a can containing marijuana residue and a spoon with burnt residue on it.
Arrested were Jamie Lynn Baker, 34, Tullahoma who was charged with possession of schedule VI, possession of drug paraphernalia, burglary and theft. She is being held under a bond of $9,000. She is to appear in Coffee County General Sessions Court Sept. 3.
Connie Elvera Riddle, 34, of Belvidere was charged with burglary, theft of property, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of prescription drugs without a prescription. She is being held under an $8,000 bond. She is also set to appear in Coffee County General Sessions Court Sept. 3.
Tullahoma Man Jailed On Sex Charges
Jarrett Austin Kitts of Princeton Street in Tullahoma is free on a $10,000 bond after being arrested on sexual battery by an authority figure.
According to a report taken by Officer Sam Campbell, on July 23 a woman met the officer at the Tullahoma Police Department to report a case of sexual battery of a juvenile.
Kitts, 36, was arrested on Sunday Aug. 9. He was booked into the Coffee County Jail on a charge of sexual contact with a minor by an authority figure.
According to the police report, the mother told the officer that Kitts had kissed her daughter on several different occasions. According to a warrant obtained by Detective Harry Conway, the alleged incidents occurred between July 8 and July 22. The warrant states that he kissed the girl approximately 20 times.
The warrant also states that Kitts made several statements to the 16-year-old girl that he planned to divorce his wife and be in a relationship with the girl.
According to the warrant, the girl had been a babysitter at Kitts’ house.
Domestic Violence Incident Sends Coffee County Man To Jail
Shannon Dean Reek, 43, of Winnie Boytnon Road, Manchester was charged with three counts of domestic violence, assault, simple assault, possession of schedule III and fabricating/tampering with evidence.
In a report by Coffee County Deputy Cody Lendley the officer states that he was in route to Fire Lake Boat Ramp for the domestic violence call. When he passed Dockside Market he saw Reek grab something from his pocket and put it in his mouth. Reek told the deputy that he had swallowed four Somas. He told the officer that he did not have a prescription for the pills and that he had four more in his pocket. Lendley then called for an ambulance to transport Reek for the pills and due to him having drank alcohol.
When the deputy arrived at the boat dock he heard from several witnesses that Reek had held his wife down and beat her.
He also hit a friend of the wife, his mother in law and step daughter.
Reek was booked into the Coffee County Jail under a bond of $25,000.
Eleven Colleges Receive Grant Money
Eleven colleges will roll out new programs for student veterans in the fall thanks to $1 million in state funding that is part of a wide-ranging effort to draw more veterans to Tennessee.
Multiple media outlets report that Gov. Bill Haslam’s office announced Monday that 11 schools will each be getting between $80,000 and $95,000 as part of the Veteran Reconnect Grants.
The money will go toward new staff positions, as well as added training and computer systems geared toward meeting veterans’ specific needs.
The funding is one of the state’s various efforts to court a veteran population that continues to grow as the military dramatically reduces its ranks.
The recipients of the grants include:

- East Tennessee State University, $95,000

8/13/15 —- Joyce Faye Tucker
Visitation services for Mrs. Joyce Faye Tucker, age 77, of Manchester, will be conducted from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Manchester Funeral Home.
Mrs. Tucker passed away Monday evening at her residence in Manchester.
Joyce was born in Idabel, OK, the daughter of the late William and Opal Dean Frey.
In earlier years, she was employed at PCA Apparel as a clothing cutter. Joyce loved fishing and quilting, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Joyce was also preceded in death by her husband, Harry Tucker; one daughter, Mary Stephens; one granddaughter, Amanda Stephens; one sister, Cybil Mimbs; and three brothers, Doyle, T.H., and Marlin Frey.
She is survived by one daughter, Deborah Ferrell of Manchester; one sister, Norma (Roger) Sanford of Kilbourne, LA; grandchildren, Justin Ferrell of Manchester, Tina (Jesse) Stacy of Tullahoma, and Amber Mittasch (Michael) of Trinity, TX; and great grandchildren, Colton Stephens of Manchester, Brodie Stacy, Kylee Ferrell, and Dalainah Ferrell, all of Tullahoma.
