CCMS Football Gets Come from Behind Win over Harris

A 35 yard 4th quarter touchdown run by Tanner Hulvey lifted the Coffee County Middle School football team to a 28 to 24 victory over Harris on Tuesday night at Carden-Jarrell Field. After failing to convert on a first and goal at the end of the first half, the Raiders went to the locker room down 16 to 14. Harris took their first drive of the 2nd half down the field to score on a touchdown pass. The 2 point conversion made it 24 to 14 and it appeared that Coffee County was in deep trouble. Brandon Jernigan galloped in from 40 yards out for the Raiders on the next possession and the missed PAT made the score 24 to 20 heading to the 4th quarter. After the Raider defense stopped the Eagles, Coffee County went on a 8 play drive to get the ball down inside the 20 yard line before QB Blanton Brown went down with an injury. 2 plays later, Harris pounced on a Raider fumble and with 2:49 left in the game, it appeared that the Eagles were a first down away from putting the game out of reach. But not to be denied, the Raider defense forced an Eagle fumble setting up Hulvey’s heroic touchdown run with 2:34 left in the game.
After recovering the Raiders squib kick and out of timeouts, the Eagles went to their passing game. On the first play from scrimmage, Gilberto Infante sacked the Harris QB forcing a fumble. The Raiders however fumbled the ball back on the next snap but held the Eagles on downs at midfield. Coffee County was able to run out the clock and secure their 3rd win of the year and 2nd in conference play. Hulvey finished the game with 2 TD’s while Brown had the first score of the game for Coffee County. The Red Raiders will host South Franklin next Tuesday night in their homecoming game. Kick-off is set for 6:30 PM at Carden Jarrell Field.
