Lady Raider Softball Loses Iconic Booster

CCIn the storied 25 year history of Coffee County CHS softball, a lot of names (on both sides of the foul lines) have played large parts in building a program and a brand.  Today, I am saddened to tell you of the loss of a true giant in the family history of Lady Raider softball.  Goodloe McLaughlin was a lot of things to a lot of people, but he was one of a handful of men and women who were the driving force behind the construction of a softball field on campus at CHS.  In 1996, with the help of school board member Paul Russell, Coach Jeff Breeden embarked on building a field.  Goodloe, or “Goodie” as we grew to call him was just a dad….but a man EXACTLY like the type of Lady Raider softball player we hoped to develop.  HE was hard working, loyal, tenacious and a problem solver.  HE spend many hours leveling and moving dirt, clearing trees and often pushing people to action in building the field.  To opposing fans, he was the worst heckler, to a Lady Raider player and fan alike he was a humble man with an infectious laugh, a loving spirit and a tireless drive.  You may have never met him, but he is one program pioneer that deserves one last tip of the cap.
