Coffee County Comes Up Short to Riverdale

“Football is a game of inches” those are the words of Coffee County CHS football coach Ryan Sulkowski following Friday night’s 21 to 20 loss to Riverdale. Those inches showed up over and over again, but in hindsight, none were as big as the a 49 yard field goal attempt at the end of the first half that hit the upright and crossbar before falling harmlessly to the Carden-Jarrell Field turf. With the tough luck miss, Riverdale took a 21 to 14 lead into the locker room at halftime. At the half, the Red Raiders(decked out in pink for Cancer Awareness) made the necessary defensive adjustments to hold Riverdale scoreless in the 2nd half and limit them to 130 yards of offense in the half. A Tyrese McGee touchdown in the 3rd quarter cut the deficit to 1, but a missed extra point made the score 21 to 20. Two more scoring opportuniesin the 2nd half came up short as Coffee County fell to 2 and 3 on the year and 0 and 2 in Region 2-6A play.

Alontae Taylor was 6 for 13 passing for 93 yards and rushed 20 times for 59 yards and a rushing TD. Boone Riddle caught 4 passes for 74 yards as the leading receiver for Coffee County. Friday’s game was the annual “Pink Out” game and several cancer survivors served as honorary game captains. Coffee County returns to region action on Friday night as they travel to Murfreesboro to take on Oakland. That game is set to kick off at 7:00 PM and Thunder Radio will bring you all the action.
