Police Continue To Search For Bank Robbery Suspect
Approximately 1:15 p.m. on Thursday September 17, 2015, the suspect robbed First Community Bank located at 2841 Hwy 231 North.
The man entered the bank and handed the teller a note stating he was armed and demanding cash. The suspect took the money and fled the bank on foot heading southbound.
The man is described as black man, approximately 30 years old, 5’11” tall, with a slim build.

Religious Organization Wants Islam Curriculum From All School Districts
A religious organization has requested records pertaining to Islam curriculum from all Tennessee school districts.
Spokeswoman CeCe Heil from the American Center for Law & Justice tells The Tennessean that the Christian-based nonprofit made the open records request after concerned parents contacted them. The group advocates and litigates freedom of religion and free speech issues.
Heil says the requests are being made to all 146 school districts and state special schools. The organization is requesting records and information on what students are learning about Islam and other religions, how students are being taught and what resources teachers are using.
The state provides academic standards, which Tennessee Department of Education Commissioner Candice McQueen says are designed to provide a deep understanding of how world religions have affected world history.
Public Reception for Colonel Rodney Todaro and Dr. Anthony (Tony) Kinkel
“I welcome both to Tullahoma,” said Mayor Lane Curlee. “Our city is a better place because of the work they will accomplish. This is a great opportunity to welcome both of these outstanding citizens to our community. ”
Colonel Rodney Todaro is the Commander at Arnold Engineering Development Complex. He leads the largest and most advanced complex of flight simulation test facilities in the world.
Colonel Todaro was commissioned in 1991 as a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy.
Colonel Todaro is a Master Navigator with over 2500 hours in 35 different aircraft types. He is a Department of Defense Acquisition Corps member and holds Level 3 certification in Test and Evaluation and Level 2 certification in Program Management.
Dr. Tony Kinkel brings a unique blend of teaching, administrative, policy making and leadership experience to Motlow College. Elected at age 24 to the Minnesota House of Representatives, Dr. Kinkel served from 1986 to 1998 where he was appointed by the Speaker of the House to chair the Higher Education Finance Division. From 1999-2002, Dr. Kinkel served in the Minnesota State Senate and was elected by his peers to serve on the Education Commission of the States, a national organization of state policy makers who hold educational leadership positions in their respective states.
Motlow College Encourages Employees, Public to Become Tnachieves Mentors
Motlow College Tennessee Promise Coordinator Jonathan Graham is urging any interested Motlow faculty, staff and administrators, and members of the general public, to apply to the tnAchieves mentor program.
Since 2008, tnAchieves has been helping Tennessee students not only afford but excel in college. The non-profit is the partnering organization to the Tennessee Promise scholarship in 85 of the 95 Tennessee counties. The organization’s mission is to, “increase higher education opportunities for Tennessee high school students by providing last-dollar scholarships with mentor guidance.”
Mentors help students earn various scholarships through programs such as Tennessee Promise. These volunteers are required to spend at least 10-15 hours annually assisting 5-10 high school seniors with post-secondary education guidance.
“Last year, Motlow had 22 employees sign up to mentor our Tennessee Promise class of 2015, while Volunteer State Community College led all community colleges with 47 employee mentors,” said Graham. “This year, we would like to be the community college with the highest number of employee mentors.
To apply, fill out the application form by Nov. 20, and attend a mentor training session location in your county or region. Many sessions will begin as early as Nov. 3. Applicants can RSVP a date for mentor training by visiting https://tnachieves.org/mentor-training-sessions.

9/26/15 — Kathryn Ann Abicht
A Memorial Service Visitation for Mrs. Kathryn Ann Abicht, age 74 of Manchester, will be conducted Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Coffee County Funeral Chapel.
Mrs. Abicht passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 29, 2015 in Temple, Texas while visiting her son.
She was born October 1, 1940 in Cincinnati, Ohio the daughter of the late Fredrick Rudolph Kleb and Anne Smithberger Kleb.
In earlier years, she was employed as a secretary for Mahone Tire Company in Ohio. She always enjoyed outdoor activities as well as reading. She enjoyed listening to music, especially anything by Elvis, as she was a huge Elvis Presley fan. She was a member of the Catholic faith. She has resided in Manchester, TN the past 15 years, where she will be deeply missed by her Kingwood Arms family.
Mrs. Abicht is survived by four children, William Thomas “Bill” Vandegrift and wife, Irene of Copperas Cove, TX; Michael Vandegrift of Charleston, WV; Theresa Ann Sheppard and husband, Paul of Manchester, TN and Sandra Lynn Berlin of Columbus, OH; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving is her sister, Patricia Young and husband Larry of Marietta, OH.

HOBART R. WIMMER, age 75, of Sewanee, Tenn., departed this life Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Southern Tennessee Regional Health Systems Sewanee.
Mr. Wimmer was born on May 17, 1950, in Blue Island, IL to the late John and Goldie Mann Wimmer.
Mr. Wimmer is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Wimmer of Sewanee, Tenn., son, Richard Wimmer of Sauk Village, IL, daughters; Pam, Laura, and Tammy Wimmer all of IL, stepdaughter, Lori Krutchmer and her husband, Chris of Winchester, Tenn., brother, Wayne Wimmer of Sewanee, Tenn.
It was Mr. Wimmer’s wishes to be cremated with no services scheduled.

5/18/15 — Maudest Lapett Rodell
Maudest Lapett Rodell, age 92 of McMinnville, Tennessee passed away, Friday, September 18, 2015 at her residence.
Private family services will be held.
Ms. Rodell, a native of Uniontown, PA was the daughter of the late Frank Otto and Carrie Medora Grogan Rodell. She had worked as a Supervisor for the state of Tennessee. She enjoyed sewing and was a good mother. She worked hard all her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one son, Daniel Muncey and two daughters, Gloria Murphy and Sue Davis.
She is survived by one son, Douglas Muncey and his wife, Darlene of Texas; one daughter, Nancy Mayfield of McMinnville; grandchildren, Deannia Murphy of Clarkrange, TN, Jennifer Hall and her husband, Donovan of Erin, TN, Daniel Muncey and Jason Franklin, both of McMinnville; great grandchildren, Brandon Blake of Clarkrange, TN and Jason Franklin and numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.

Coffee County Soccer Dominates Wilson Central on Saturday
A hat trick from Caitlyn Moore helped carry the Coffee County High School soccer team to a 5 to 0 win over Wilson Central on Saturday. Coffee County dominated the match from the onset as they held Wilson Central to 1 shot all game long as they outshot the visitors 18 to 1. Moore scored 2 first half goals, in the 10th and 18th minutes, to give Coffee County a 2 to 0 lead at the half. Andrea Vasquez added a goal in the 46th minute before Wilson Central got their first shot at the 56 minute mark. A pair of late goals were icing on the cake as Moore got her 3rd tally in the 68th minute and Anna Gann drilled a winner home in the 77th minute. The Lady Raiders finish the regular season with a pair of non-district friendlies. On Tuesday, the travel to Unionville for a 7 PM match with Community before celebrating Senior Night on Thursday night at home in a 6 PM contest as they host Cascade.
CHS Volleyball Rallies to Claim Silver Bracket Title on Saturday
Hosting the most competitive field of teams in the history of the Southern Slam, the CHS volleyball team swept the final 2 matches on Saturday to take the title in the tournament’s Silver Bracket. After inconsistent play all day long, the Lady Raiders turned it up late as they avenged a loss to Tullahoma in the semifinals before sweeping Cumberland County in 2 sets in the finals. Eagleville defeated Lincoln County in teh gold bracket finals. In the silver bracket finals, the Lady Raiders got 22 kills against the talented Lady Jets front line as their offense worked to near perfection. Senior Peyton Nicoll had a great performance in the final match as she led the Lady Raiders in kills with 8, aces with 3 and blocks with 2 while adding 6 assists and 4 digs. Diana Davis also had 3 aces for the Lady Raiders while leading the team in digs with 10 and adding 6 kills. Maddie Taylor led the team in assists with 9 while adding a kill and 6 digs. The Lady Raiders host 2 pivotal district games this week as they welcome the top 2 teams in the district to the Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym. 2nd place Lincoln County visits on Tuesday while district leading Columbia comes to town on Thursday. A pair of wins could vault Coffee County from 3rd place to a first place tie. The Lady Raiders warm up with a 3 way match on Monday as they take on Warren County at 4:30 and Tullahoma at 5:30 at Warren County High School.
Fire Damages Summitville Home
Coffee County Sheriff’s deputies and Coffee County EMS were also on the scene.
Apparently no one was injured and the fire will be investigated by the sheriff’s department.
