Donald Wayne Lannan
Donald Wayne Lannan, known as “Don” by family and friends, age 83 of Manchester, passed away peacefully Friday, September 25, 2015 at Bailey Manor in Manchester.
Don was born May 6, 1932 in Hammond, IN the son of the late Joseph Raymond Lannan and Lila Illinois Ellis Lannan. He graduated Hammond High School in 1950 and enlisted in the United States Army where he spent three years and was honorably discharged February 1, 1954. He then enrolled in chiropractic school at Logan Chiropractic College in St. Louis, MO. While attending school, he met his future bride, Miss Anna Hall, from Tennessee, who was also there fulfilling school duties to become a registered nurse. Upon completion of school, Don and some buddies decided to go to California. Anna soon flew to California to visit and they married on November 7, 1960. The couple resided in Novato, CA until 1965 when they moved to Tullahoma, TN where Don began a new career with Sear’s Catalog Sales. Due to his career in sales, the couple and their children moved frequently. While residing in Conyers, Georgia Don was actively involved in his children’s activities and was instrumental in starting the Rockdale Soccer League. The family then moved to Griffin, Georgia where they spent several years. In 1988, the family moved back to Manchester, TN where Don began perusing his love for plants and trees. He held the honor of being a “Master Gardner” and the family’s home place became a showplace of unusual plants and trees. He taught his four children many species of plants and trees and thought this gave them a knowledge they may not have learned in school. He also built a number of bluebird houses found on the greenway in Manchester for all to enjoy. Don was also known to have a interesting quirk of writing a date on everything purchased or acquired by the family. He was an avid reader and a member of Wesley Heights United Methodist Church in Tullahoma. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Lannan.
