10/30/2015 — Franklin Eugene Ferrell

flower 9Funeral services for Mr. Franklin Eugene Ferrell, age 95, of Hillsboro, TN,
will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Manchester
Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Tom Harrison officiating. Burial will follow
in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the Ferrell family will be
from 6:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Thursday evening at the funeral home. Mr.
Ferrell passed away Monday, October 26 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, TN.

Mr. Ferrell was born in Coffee County, TN, the son of the late Bertha
Strawn. Franklin served his country in the United States Army and was a
retired carpenter for General Motors in Muncie, IN. He was a member of
Hillsboro Church of Christ, and loved carpentry work, gardening, wrestling,
watching old western movies and reading western books.

Franklin is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dorothy M. Hargis Ferrell of
Hillsboro; seven children, Gary (Alma Jean) Ferrell of Hillsboro, Larry
(Sherrill) Ferrell of Batavia, OH, Samuel Houston (Mary) Tenpenny of Muncie,
IN, Autry (Christina) Ferrell of Hillsboro, Raymond (Suetta) French of
Springfield, OH, William (Toni) French of North Bend, WA, and Shane French
of Shelburn, IN; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great,
great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.

In addition to his mother, Franklin was also preceded in death by his first
wife, Dorothy E. Markum Ferrell; step son, Dale French, step daughter, Ruth
Ann Whitson; one sister, Estelle Bryant; and one grandson, Darren Ferrell.

Banks, Evelyn Marie, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Monday, October
26th, 2015 at Harton Regional Medical Center at the age of 88. Mrs. Banks
was born in Franklin County, Tennessee to the late John T. and Vesta
Estelle Holder Huddleston. During her life she worked at George Dickel
Distillery in Quality Control, retiring in 1998 and was a member of Grace
Baptist Church in Tullahoma. In addition to her parents, she is preceded
in death by her husband, L.E. Banks; one brother, Thomas Ray Huddleston;
two sisters, Helen Lucille Evans and Mary Sue Arnold; and one
great-grandchild, Taylor Colvin. Mrs. Banks is survived by one daughter,
Vicky Colvin and her husband Robert of Tullahoma; two sons, Kenny Banks
and his wife Suzanne of Tullahoma and Randy Banks of Tullahoma;
daughter-in-law, Darlene Banks of Tullahoma; two sisters, Mildred Knight
of Moore County, and Christine Hodge of Tullahoma; nine grandchildren,
April Norris, Robbie Colvin, Shane Colvin, Cheslyn Nester, Clay Banks,
Chase Banks, Chance Banks, Aaron Banks and Adam Banks; and 15
great-grandchildren, Caleb Norris, Cole Norris, Kylee Norris, Riley
Colvin, Logan Colvin, Reece Colvin, Ryder Colvin, Wyatt Colvin Levi
Colvin Bailee Banks, Kennedy Banks, Gracyn Banks, Hadley Banks, Payton
Nester and Casen Nester. Visitation for Mrs. Banks will be held on
Thursday, October 29th, 2015 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00pm.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 30th, 2015 at 1:00pm in
the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Revs. Buck Frazier, Eddie Canady and
Tim McGehee officiating. Burial will follow at New Reddins Cemetery with
all Mrs. Banks grandsons and great-grandsons acting as pallbearers. For
those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the
Alzheimer's Association in memory of Luther Earnest Banks, 4825 Trousdale
Drive, Suite 220, Nashville, Tennessee 37220.

A hot shooting performance in the 2nd half propelled the Huntland Lady Hornets to a 36 to 34 defeat of Westwood on Monday night. The Lady Rockets built a 19 to 13 halftime lead, only to see Huntland pour in 17 points in the 3rd quarter to take a 3 point lead into the 4th quarter. Westwood was led in scoring by Morgan Jones who finished with 13 points. Ashley Starks added 8 points while Beatris Barrera scored 7.

The Rockets got their 2nd straight win on the season as they dropped the Hornets by a final score of 49 to 28. Westwood worked its offense well to get good quality shots on the night and limited the turnovers that plagued them in the first week of the season. Roderic Brinkley had another huge game for the Rockets as he led the team in points with 16 and rebounds with 14. With the win, Westwood improves their record to 2 and 3 on the season. The Rockets and Lady Rockets will be back in action on Thursday night as they travel to Fayetteville. The Westwood 6th grade teams will be in action at home on Tuesday night beginning at 6 PM as they welcome North Franklin to the Joel Vinson Gym.

Trailing by 7 points entering the 4th quarter, the 6th grade Lady Raider basketball team used a 15 point 4th quarter and a 6 point overtime to stun White County in Sparta on Monday night by a final score of 34 to 28. The Lady Raiders, who were held scoreless in the first quarter, got 15 points in the 4th quarter, led by 7 points from Marley Perry. Coffee County held White County scoreless in the overtime period to improve to 5 and 0 on the year. Perry led Coffee County in scoring with 12 points and Leigha Insell added 8 points.

In the boys’ game, White County used a 10 point 3rd quarter to hand the Red Raiders their first loss of the year 27 to 24. Joseph Duncan led Coffee County in scoring as he had 17 points. Aiden Abellana added 4 points for the Red Raiders. With the loss, Coffee County is now 4 and 1 on the year. The Raiders and Lady Raiders will travel to Shelbyville on Tuesday night for a battle with Harris. The girls’ game will tip off at 6:00 PM

10/28/15 — Nell Harris Moffitt

flower 4Nell Harris Moffitt, age 96 of Estill Springs, TN passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Life Care Center of Tullahoma. Born in Elkton, KY, she grew up in a large, loving, musical family and attended elementary and high school in Guthrie, KY. Ms. Moffitt was a graduate of Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, TN and George Peabody College in Nashville, TN where she received her B.S. degree with a major in elementary music. She did graduate studies at Peabody College, University of Chattanooga and Belmont College. Ms. Moffitt married the late, Orvil Lee Moffitt of Clarksville, TN in 1941. Nell began her teaching career as music supervisor for the Montgomery County Schools in Clarksville, TN. Then for many years, she taught elementary music in the Dalton Public Schools in Dalton, Georgia. Also in Dalton, she directed children and junior choirs and music for Children’s Sunday School Department at Dalton First Methodist Church. She was a bible leader for Dalton ME church women’s circles and received lifetime membership in Women’s Society of Christian Service. Ms. Moffitt taught at Nashville Brockmead Elementary, a model school sponsored by the federal government. She was the chairman of the committee for the selection of music textbooks for the State of Tennessee. Nell and Orvil moved to Tullahoma in 1969 when Motlow College began, where Orvil started the music department and was chairman of the Humanities Division. Ms. Moffitt taught elementary school music in the Tullahoma City Schools until retirement in 1984 and was a member of Coffee County Retired Teachers Association. They joined the First Presbyterian Church in Tullahoma in 1971. It met the needs they felt then and felt now in Christian Worship. They lived on Tims Ford Lake in Estill Springs, TN, where they enjoyed not only their boys, their families and grandchildren, but lots of swimming, boating, fishing and traveling. Her hobbies included: music, gardening, flower arranging, swimming, boating, fishing and calligraphy.
Preceded in death by her loving husband, Orvil Lee Moffitt; parents; brothers and sisters. Survived by her three sons, and there families Leland and Louisa in Atlanta, GA, Mike and Nancy in Jasper, Georgia and Eddie living in Estill Springs, TN; 7 grandsons, John, Kit, Will, Matt, Andy, Derek and Jeremy; many great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to First Presbyterian Church in Tullahoma, TN.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 11:30 A.M. at First Presbyterian Church in Tullahoma, TN with the Rev. Stephen Yates officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 27, 2015 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Tullahoma Funeral Home. Interment will be held Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at 4:00 P.M. in Glennwood Cemetery in Elkton, KY.

kilgoreBlanton Kilgore, age 87 of Hillsboro, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015 at his residence. He was born in Grundy County on January 20, 1928 to the late Emmitt and Estie Dickerson Kilgore. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Willie Ruth Kilgore; daughter, Lois Kilgore Poff; sisters, Josephine Nunley, Deloris Mars, and Omie Lee Meeks; brothers, Pate Kilgore and Alfred Kilgore; and granddaughters, Regina Michelle Wilder and Michelle Lynn Wilder. Blanton is survived by daughters, Beatrice Kilgore Wilder of Hillsboro, Valerie Kilgore Prince of Manchester, and Hope Kilgore Gomez of Hillsboro; brothers, Harold Kilgore of McMinnville and Frank Emmitt Kilgore of Altamont; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 in the Moore-Cortner Chapel. Interment will follow at Summitville Cemetery in Summitville, Tennessee.

woodsPatricia Gray Woods, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Friday, October 23rd, 2015 at NHC at the age of 82. Ms. Woods was born in San Antonio, Texas to the late Van R. and Linnie Gray Whetstone Wiggins. She was a graduate of Classen High School and Cottey College in Nevada, Missouri and attended Oklahoma A&M College. At A&M she was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha social sorority, YWCA, Wesley Foundation, Student Union Hospitality and Public Relations Committee, Society of Personnel Management and Sigma Tau Delta Honorary English Fraternity. Ms. Woods was one of the founding members of the Haven of Hope, a domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking victims advocacy program. In addition to her parents, Ms. Woods is preceded in death by her husband, Jim Woods and one daughter, Ruthie Ingram. She is survived by two daughters, Vanessa Grammer and her husband Doug and Mary Nell Wick and her husband Gary; three sons, Jimmy Woods, Hamilton Woods and his wife Ginger and Perry Woods; one sister, Liz Black; eight grandchildren, Emily Goff and her husband David, Rusty Grammer and his wife Rosalyn, Brian Ingram, Carson and Anna Morgan Massey and Jeremy, Natasha and Travis Woods; one nephew, David Black and his wife Lee Ann; and one niece, Susan Steen and her husband Bernie. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28th, 2015 from 10:00am-12:00pm at the church of Christ at Cedar Lane with a memorial service to follow at 12:00pm with Bro. Gary Johnson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to the Lannom Memorial Library, 312 North Collins Street, Tullahoma, Tennessee, Haven of Hope, 300 Hillsboro Blvd #4, Manchester, Tennessee, or to the charity of your choice.
