CCMS 6th Grade Teams Sweep Harris on Tuesday Night
The Coffee County Middle School 6th grade teams swept a pair of games against Harris on Tuesday night. In the girls’ game, The Lady Raiders raced out to a 20 to 4 halftime lead as they defeated Harris 34 to 7. Leigha Insell led Coffee County in scoring with 8 points as 9 different Lady Raiders scored on the night. Olivia Evans added 6 points.
In a fast and physical boys’ game, the Red Raiders battled their way to an 18 to 5 halftime lead on their way to a 30 to 13 win over the Eagles. Joseph Duncan led the Raiders in scoring with 13 points. Aiden Abellana added 7 points while Conner Shemwell finished with 5 points. The Raiders and Lady Raiders return home on Thursday night as they welcome North Franklin to CCMS. The girls’ game tips off at 6.
Westwood 6th Graders Fall to North on Tuesday Night
The Westwood 6th grade teams welcomed North Franklin to the Joel Vinson Gym on Tuesday night. In the girls’ game, North Franklin turned up the defensive pressure in the 2nd half to extend a 3 point halftime lead into a 30 to 16 victory over Westwood. Westwood was held to 6 second half points as North’s physical play wore down the Lady Rockets. Kasen Holt led Westwood in scoring with 6 points while Gracie Morris added 4 points.
Three lead changes in the final 90 seconds finished an exciting boys’ game, unfortunately, the Westwood Rockets came up on the short end of a 43 to 42 final score to North. Westwood took an early lead, but North closed the half with a pair of 3 pointers to take a 25 to 18 lead into the locker room. The Rockets clawed away at the deficit before taking the lead 42 to 41 with 1:30 remaining in the game. North came back with a basket 14 seconds later and hung on for the 43 to 42 win. Westwood was led in scoring by Will Partin who had 14 points. Trent Thompson finished with 13 for the Rockets while Body Todd added 7 points. The Rockets are in action on Wednesday night at 6 PM as they travel to West Tullahoma. The Lady Rockets will have the night off
CCMS Basketball Opens Preseason Tournament with Wins
The Coffee County Middle School varsity teams opened preseason play in the Woodbury Grammar School Border Battle on Tuesday night. The Lady Raiders built a 24 to 2 halftime lead on their way to a 44 to 10 win over Dibrell. Julia Duncan led Coffee County in scoring with 18 points. Ellie Graham and Keelie Hillis added 8 points each. The Lady Raiders will advance to the semifinals of the preseason tournament as they will take on North Elementary Thursday night at 7:00 at Woodbury Grammar.
The Red Raiders raced out to a 23 to 3 halftime lead as they dispatched the Dibrell boys 49 to 13. Eleven different Red Raiders scored points for Coffee County. Blanton Brown netted 8 points in the Raider win while Trevor Horne, Brandon Jernigan and Kyle Farless each scored 6 points. The Red Raiders return to Woodbury on Thursday night for the semifinals of this preseason tournament as they will take on Auburntown. That game is set to get underway at 8:15.
10/28/15 — Michael Phillip Di-Novo
Memorial visitation for Mr. Michael Phillip Di-Novo, Sr., age 71, of
Beechgrove, TN, will be conducted from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Wednesday,
October 28, 2015 at Manchester Funeral Home. Mr. Di-Novo passed away on
Monday, October 26 at the VA Medical Center in Nashville, TN.
Michael was born in Albany, NY, the son of the late Emmanual and Christine
Dedes Di- Novo. He served his country in the United States Army and was a
retired mechanic for Richard Onderka. Loving life in general, Michael also
enjoyed singing, cars and motorcycles, and being outdoors.
He is survived by six sons, Michael, Jr., Bart, Paul, Russell, Christopher,
Phillip and Jeremy Di-Novo; grandchildren, Zachary, Faith, Krystal, Candi,
Beronica, David, Luke, Shelby, Justin, Jesse, Kaylee, and Alicia; great
grandchildren, Jason, Cameron, Eli, and Heather; three brothers, Sonny,
Paul, and Christopher; and three sisters, Carol, Angie, and Jacqueline.

Fire Destroys Coffee County Home
The deputy’s report states that when he arrived at the address, the house was fully engulfed with flames. The New Union Fire Department along with several other volunteer firefighters responded to the late night blaze.
Three doors on the three car garage behind the house had graffiti painted on them including “we want our money”.
No one was living at the house at the time of the fire and the home was valued at over $200,000.

Tullahoma Man Charged With Domestic Assault
A female reported to Tullahoma Police Officer Mickey Blanton early Monday morning that she was assaulted at the Freeman Street apartment by Tye Valentin, 23. She said that she was asleep with her daughter when Valentin became belligerent and struck her on the arm and the back of her head. The woman told the officer that Valentin then pinned her against a back door of the apartment. The victim told the officer that Valentin then grabbed the three month pregnant woman by her hair and started kicking her in the side.
She was then able to get away from her alleged attacker and was walking down East Lincoln Street when officers found her. They then took her back to the apartment so officers could get both sides of the story.
According to Officer Mickey Blanton’s report, the woman had bruises on her left arm and the right side of her body.
Valentin was booked into the Coffee County Jail under a bond of $25,000.
Gas Prices Continue Downward Trend
The national average price for regular unleaded gasoline has fallen for 16 consecutive days, reaching a price of $2.21 per gallon. The average is the lowest since February 2015, and represents a savings of 59 cents per gallon compared to the 2015 peak price of $2.80 (June 15).
“Gas prices keep falling because oil prices are low and gasoline supply continues to outpace demand,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman, AAA – The Auto Club Group.
The average price in Tennessee is $1.95, 5 cents lower than last week, 86 cents lower than last year.
The low price per gallon in Manchester as of Tuesday afternoon was $1.80 and in Tullahoma the low price for gas has dipped to $1.81
5th Quarter Student Lounge Now Open in Tullahoma
The Tullahoma Parks and Recreation is pleased to announce the opening of the new 5th Quarter Student Lounge. Students are invited to hang out after the game and enjoy some fun activities.
“We are excited about this new lounge for our student community,” said Program Director, Tori Raby. “It is here for kids of all ages to take advantage of, and during 5th quarter we will have corn hole and basketball in the gym and be open until 11:00 pm.”
The area is designed to be a comfortable and safe place for the community to gather and enjoy visiting and a snack. Middle school and high school students will receive a free bag of chips and a drink with their football ticket stub.
“All of the new upgrades at our facility are designed for young families and we want to also give students a place they can congregate after the games,” said Director of Parks and Recreation, Kurt Glick. “After football season we will continue to have Friday night fun nights for kids from 8-10:00 pm with different activities.”
It is open during regular hours and features TVs, games and a comfortable sitting for socializing with friends. Its staffed and programmed afterschool. The community is invited to stop by and take a tour.
“The Glass Slipper” Begins at Motlow
The Motlow College theatre department is eager to delight children with its production of “The Glass Slipper” beginning Wednesday, Oct. 28, according to Jeannie Gallant, associate professor of communications at Motlow and director of the production.
Performances are scheduled for Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 28 – 30, at 9 a.m., 10:20 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The play will conclude with November performances Wednesday through Friday, Nov. 4 – 6, at the same times. All performances will be held inside Powers Auditorium in Eoff Hall on Motlow’s Moore County campus.
While thousands of area children will come to Motlow to enjoy the production during the daytime performances, the public is invited to a reception on Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m., followed by a final evening performance.
