AEDC Contract Becomes Official

AEDCOn Monday, the contracting office at Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) awarded the Test Operations and Sustainment contract; this contract will ensure AEDC remains the nation’s ground test and evaluation facility of choice… today and tomorrow.
National Aerospace Solutions, LLC (NAS), Reston VA, a joint venture between Bechtel National, Inc., Sierra Lobo, Inc., and GP Strategies Corp., was awarded a cost-plus-award-fee contract valued at $1.5 billion. NAS will perform work supporting unique test operations and sustainment of the over $11 billion worth of infrastructure at the world’s largest and most complex flight simulation test and evaluation complex. The period of performance is eight years (one base year, three one-year option periods, two one-year award term periods, and two additional one-year option periods) in addition to a 90-day phase-in period.
NAS was originally awarded the TOS contract in June, but an unsuccessful offeror protested the award. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) in October sustained the protest in part and denied it in part. In their decision, the GAO recommended the government make a new source selection determination. Based upon this new determination, the Source Selection Authority awarded the TOS contract to NAS. A transition date for NAS has not been set.
Other AEDC contracts are in the process of transitioning to performance.
Additionally, the government has extended the Aerospace Testing Alliance contract until March 2016 to ensure continuity of operations during the various contract transitions.

A Tullahoma man was flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after being injured in a single car accident on East Carroll Street Friday night. According to a police report by Tullahoma Police Officer Michael Wilder, a witness said that Friday afternoon around 4:45 p.m. Timothy Ferrell of North Washington Street was traveling along East Carroll Street when he began to accelerate and went off of the roadway.
The 1994 Nissan Altima struck a hill and then slid sideways and struck trees. The vehicle then rolled and came to rest on a tree. According to members of the Tullahoma Fire Department, a bystander used a fire extinguisher to extinguish the fire in the vehicle.
Due to Ferrell’s injuries, a medical helicopter landed on the scene and he was flown to the Nashville hospital.

Haslam Says No To More Syrian Refugees

Gov. Bill Haslam

Gov. Bill Haslam says he is asking the federal government to suspend placement of Syrian refugees in Tennessee.
In a statement released to media, Haslam acknowledges that the federal government has the authority to place refugees but says “they have said in the past they would be open to cooperating with receiving states.”
Haslam says he wants to suspend placement of Syrian refugees in Tennessee “until states can become more of a partner in the vetting process.”
Haslam also says he is asking the U.S. Department of State for the status of any Syrian refugees currently slated to come to Tennessee.
Tennessee Office for Refugees State Coordinator Holly Johnson says the state has settled fewer than 50 Syrian refugees since her office took over the process in 2008.

First National Bank has been a big part of Manchester and the surrounding area since 1900 and has been in their current building near the square since 1973. If you’ve driven by the downtown area recently you may have noticed some work going on to renovate the downtown location.
According the Brent Parsley, Community President, “After 43 years it was time to update and give this location a facelift”
After engineers deemed the building solid and in great shape structurally, bank leaders started planning some upgrades to give the building a modern look. Not only will it look new and attractive on the outside but new features will soon welcome customers when they come inside. A coffee bar, computer stations for online banking and even a new elevator will be installed during renovations.
Parsley went on the say “First National Bank is committed to Manchester, and we are glad to stay here near the square area and help to preserve and improve the downtown area.”
Parsley also added “We ask everyone to excuse our mess for a while as we get this work completed, but we are open for business as usual while work is being completed”
An open house is planned for sometime in the summer of 2016 and everyone in the community will be invited.

A pair of convincing wins over a county rival is always a good way to start your week.  That is just what the Coffee County Middle School basketball teams accomplished on Monday night against East Middle.  The Lady Raiders ran their season record to 5 and 0 with a 60 to 13 win over the Lady Panthers.  Coffee County held East without a field goal in the first half as they raced out to a 28 to 4 halftime lead.  Coffee County was led in scoring by Julia Duncan who scored 22 points.  Bella Vinson added 14 points and Ellie Graham tacked on 8 points.

The Red Raider’s 2nd half defense gave the Panthers fits in a 30 to 15 victory.  After trailing at the end of the 1st period, Coffee Middle used a late burst in the 2nd quarter to take a 12 to 10 lead into the locker room at the half.  The Raider defense held East to 5 points in the 2nd half with their effective zone defense.  Coffee County was led in scoring by Brandon Jernigan who had 12 points.  Kyle Farless netted 6 points and Trenton Scrivnor added 4 points.  The win improves the Raiders record to 3 and 2 on the season.

In JV action, the JV Red Raiders defeated the East JV 37 to 11. Coffee County will travel to West Tullahoma on Thursday night for another conference doubleheader.  The girls’ game will tip at 6:00 PM

The Rockets fell behind early in the boys’ game and could not overcome a cold shoot touch as they fell 34 to 25.  The Rockets played the Champions evenly in the 2nd half but that was not enough to erase an 8 point halftime deficit.  Westwood was led in scoring by Isaiah Owens who had 8 points including a pair of 3 pointers.  Jake Hollandsworth chipped in 4 points.  The loss evened the Rockets record at 6 and 6 on the season.

The Westwood JV Lady Rockets defeated Cascade 22 to 6.  Westwood will play host to Moore County on Thursday night.  The girls’ game begins at 6 PM.
