Coffee County Red Raiders Win Overtime Thriller over Smyrna on Monday

Trailing by as many as 15 points in the 2nd quarter, the Coffee County Red Raiders stormed back in the 2nd half to drop Smyrna on Monday night 61 to 56 in an overtime thriller at Coffee County’s Joe Frank Patch Memorial Gym. A Grant Sadler free throw with 5.8 seconds left in the game sent the 2 teams to an overtime period dominated by Coffee County. The Red Raiders zone defense frustrated the visiting Bulldogs as Coffee County nearly eliminated 2nd half turnovers to shut off the transition offense that Smyrna used to build a 31 to 23 halftime lead. Coffee County held Smyrna to 6 points in the 3rd quarter to earn a season sweep over the Bulldogs.

Coffee County was led in scoring by senior Wyatt Day who finished with a season high 27 points to earn the Gateway Tire and Service Center player of the game award. Sadler finished with 13 points, 7 of those coming in the last 12 minutes. Kohl Young was huge on the defensive glass and netted 10 points for Coffee County. The Red Raiders are back in action on Tuesday night as both Coffee County teams welcome Fayetteville to “The Patch” for a non-district doubleheader. Win and advance is the motto of teams in the postseason and that is exactly what the Lady Rockets were able to do on Monday night with a 33 to 25 win over Middle Tennessee Christian in the quarterfinals of the DRVC tournament. After trailing 10 to 7 after the first quarter to, Westwood got their offense on track as they scored 13 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 3 point lead into the half. Westwood was able to control the scrappy Lady Cougars in a low scoring 2nd half to advance to the semifinals.

Ashley Starks and Morgan Jones each finished with 9 points for Westwood and Karen Medina netted 6 points to improve the Lady Rockets record to 17 and 2 on the season. The Lady Rockets will take on the winner between Eagleville and Huntland In Thursday’s semifinals at 4 PM at Forrest.

The Westwood Rockets saw their season come to a close on Monday night in a quarterfinal loss to Liberty by a final score of 39 to 29.  The Rockets were held scoreless in the 1st quarter as the 2nd seeded Patriots built a 10 to 0 lead that they would never relinquish.  Westwood was able to cut the deficit to 6 points heading into the 4th quarter but the Rockets had no answer for the interior height and length of Liberty.

Westwood was led in scoring by Jake Hollandsworth who finished with 15 points.  Collin Ward, Austin Burch and Isaiah Owens all finished the night with 4 points for the Rockets.  The Rockets finish with a record of 10 and 10 on the season.

13th, 2015 at Harton Regional Medical Center at the age of 68. Ms. Perry
was born in Coffee County to the late Walter and Joe Ruth Brawley Perry.
She was a former employee of Business Card South. In addition to her
parents, Ms. Perry was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Dudley; one
nephew, Steven Arnold; and one brother-in-law, Howard Holt. She is
survived by one sister, Patsy Holt of Tullahoma; and one nephew, Michael
Dudley of Tullahoma. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, December 15th,
2015 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be
held on Wednesday, December 16th, 2015 at 10:00am in the Kilgore Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Canady officiating. Burial will follow at
Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Kilgore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

allenPatricia Ann Allen, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Saturday, December
12th, 2015 at Harton Regional Medical Center at the age of 79. Mrs. Allen
was born in Madison County, Alabama to the late Jack T. and Bonnie E.
Kelley Hayes. During her life she worked at CVS, Medical Center Pharmacy
and Westside Drugs as a Clerk. In addition to her parents, she was
preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Allen. Mrs. Allen is survived
by one son, Thomas Allen of Tullahoma; two daughters, Patricia L. Allen
of Durham, North Carolina and Margaret A. Gunter and her husband Jeffrey
of Dry Branch, Georgia; two sisters, Jackie Proffer of Tullahoma and
Doris Maples of Kingston, Tennessee; and one granddaughter, Courtney Cox.
Visitation for Mrs. Allen will be held on Tuesday, December 15th, 2015 at
Kilgore Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on
Wednesday, December 16th, 2015 at 1:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

UPDATE–12 Year-Old Accused of Shooting 11 Year-Old in Estill Springs

Police InvestigationAuthorities in Franklin County have announced that the accused shooter of Sienna Dusk Owens the 11-year-old girl who was found shot over the weekend is a 12 year-old classmate.
According to police, North Middle School student Sienna Dusk Owens was shot in the back around 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
Sienna was taken to Southern Tennessee Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The district attorney’s office will determine if charges will be filed.
A visitation for Sienna will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home and funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be held at Franklin Memorial Gardens.

Manchester Man Who Crashed His Vehicle in Tullahoma facing Multiple Charges

On Sunday in Tullahoma, Officer Justin Smith observed a man crashing his vehicle into a guardrail on East Lincoln St and kept on driving. According to a warrant, upon making a traffic stop Smith said the man had a smell of alcohol coming from inside the truck and the man admitted to drinking some beer. Upon exiting the vehicle the subject was very unsteady on his feet. The warrant says that he was given three field sobriety tests doing poorly on all three, he was taken to Harton Hospital for blood tests with results pending. A check of his driving privilege revealed it to be revoked 3rd offense. Upon placing the subject under arrest the subject refused to comply with officers about something in his mouth. The warrant goes onto say that the officer attempted to place handcuffs on the subject and he became aggressive with the officer and he had to be tazed. The subject allegedly had a baggie of methamphetamine that he was attempting to swallow in his mouth. The subject told officers that he had the meth.
Brady Gordon Cunningham age 35 Walter Barnes Lane, Manchester was arrested and charged with resisting arrest, resisting stop frisk, halt, arrest or search, failure to report, leaving the scene of an accident, driving on revoked or suspended, driving under influence, driving while in possession of meth, schedule II violation and tampering with or fabricating evidence. His bond was set at $37,000 and he has a court date of 1-21-16.
