Josi Scores in Overtime to Lift Preds
Pete Weber’s Postgame Report
The Nashville Predators rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period, then gave their fans a rare overtime win.
Defenseman Roman Josi potted the skate-off goal at 20 seconds of overtime, enabling Nashville to dump the Arizona Coyotes 3-2 at Bridgestone Arena.
Josi skated around a defender and beat goalie Mike Smith with a forehand from point-blank range for his 14th goal and 61st point, adding to his franchise record for most points by a defenseman in a single season. It improved the Predators to 2-12 in games decided in overtime.
It was the second straight win for the Predators (41-26-14), which are locked into the first wild-card spot in the Western Conference and will play the Pacific Division winner — either Anaheim or Los Angeles — in the first round next week.
Nashville forced overtime when left winger Filip Forsberg deflected a wrister from defenseman Roman Josi at 19:41 of the third period for his 33rd goal, tying the team’s single-season record previously set by Jason Arnott.
The Coyotes (35-38-8) scored on their first shot on net at 6:26 of the first period, center Antoine Vermette redirecting a slapper from defenseman Zbynek Michalek past goalie Pekka Rinne for his 17th marker of the season.
Right winger Shane Doan made it 2-0 at 9:42 of the second period with a classic one-timer from the left faceoff dot off a nice cross-ice pass from right winger Brad Richardson. It was Doan’s 28th goal of the season and the 396th of his career.
Defenseman Shea Weber put the Predators on the board with his 20th goal at 7:26 of the third period on a one-timer from the left faceoff circle, 13 seconds into a power play. With defenseman Connor Murphy off for elbowing, Craig Smith fed Weber for his 14th man-advantage marker, tying a franchise record.
Rinne made 16 saves for the Predators, which are locked into the Western Conference’s first wild-card slot. Arizona goalie Mike Smith came up with 28 saves on 31 shots, including two on Forsberg on a breakaway late in the second period.
The Predators end the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Dallas to take on the Stars. Puck drop is set for 7 PM and Thunder Radio will bring you coverage of the action on the Fifth Third Bank/Nashville Predators Radio Network
Nashville Sounds Blanked in Home Opener By Oklahoma Dodgers
The Oklahoma City Dodgers spoiled Opening Day in Nashville with a 5-0 shutout win over the Sounds on Thursday night at First Tennessee Park.
Rain, and early Oklahoma City scoring, put a damper on the evening. The game was delayed 45 minutes to start when heavy rain began to fall just minutes before the scheduled first pitch of 6:35 p.m.
When play began, the Dodgers (1-0) didn’t waste any time getting in front. Micah Johnson started the game with a bloop single to left and moved to second on a stolen base.
Two batters later, Dodgers third baseman Rob Segedin launched a two-run home run to left field to give Oklahoma City an early 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fourth, Sounds (0-1) starter Chris Smith issued three walks and another base hit to lead to another pair of runs. In five innings of work, Smith allowed four runs on four hits to go along with three walks and six strikeouts.
Nashville wasn’t able to muster any offense against Oklahoma City pitching. Starter Zach Lee fired six shutout innings on just 63 pitches. He turned it over to Lisalverto Bonilla who worked a scoreless seventh. Relievers Adam Liberatore and Chin-hui Tsao followed suit with scoreless eighth and ninth innings, respectively.
Three of Nashville’s four hits were followed by double plays. Chad Pinder led off the fifth with a base hit to left before Rangel Ravelo grounded into a 4-6-3 double play.
Renato Nunez opened the sixth with a line drive off Lee’s foot that went for a single, but was quickly erased when Bruce Maxwell hit into a 4-6-3 twin killing.
With one away in the bottom of the ninth, Joey Wendle singled to left field but Jake Smolinski bounced into a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.
Game two of the series is scheduled for Friday night. Right-hander Jesse Hahn starts for the Sounds against right-hander Jharel Cotton for the Dodgers. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m.
The 2016 season is the Sounds’ 19th year in the Pacific Coast League and their second as the Oakland Athletics’ top affiliate. Season ticket memberships are available now by calling (615) 690-4487 or by visiting www.nashvillesounds.com.

The child’s father, told the investigator that “the child was not hurt” and that it would not happen again. According to the investigator, the father stated that the child had shut the door on her hand.

Drug Take-Back Day is April 30
The Tennessee Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services, in association with the U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), and the Office of Diversion Control is encouraging all Tennesseans to do their part to reduce the risk of prescription drug abuse.
On Saturday, April 30, in communities across the state, Tennesseans have the opportunity to take part in National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day which aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs from homes and offices.
The Coffee County Anti-Drug Collation reports that 2 in 5 10th grade students in Coffee County reported that it would be “sort of easy” or “very easy” to get some prescription drugs that were not prescribed to them by taking them from home without permission.
In 2015, the Tennessee Department of Health released some statistics on the impact of substance use in Tennessee revealing: The number of Tennesseans who die each year due to drug overdoses increased again in 2014. The total number of overdose deaths rose by nearly 100, from 1,166 in 2013 to a record-setting 1,263 in 2014. If those numbers are hard to comprehend, consider this: more people died from drug overdoses in Tennessee last year than were killed in motor vehicle accidents.

4/9/16 — Patty Baker
On April 5th, 2016 at 4:26AM, Patricia “Patty” Baker, age 59, of Tullahoma entered into the Kingdom of Heaven. She ran straight into the arms of Jesus with a joyful shout and then immediately into the arms of her loved ones already there. When Patty was born with Down Syndrome on July 14th, 1956, her parents were told she would never walk or smile and that the “kindest thing” would be to put her in an institution. Patty not only walked but ran, danced, bowled, and swam; she not only smiled but laughed, giggled, teased, and sang! She enjoyed good food, thrill rides, scary movies, Christmas year ‘round, and so much more! Patty was active in Special Olympics for many years. Patty was able to have a full and meaningful life because of her parents, her church families, and the many people throughout the years that worked with her at Coffee County Skills Development, INC and the affiliated group home. If you want proof of angels on Earth, look there!
Even when Alzheimer’s stripped her of her memories, she remained faithful and loving. Patty had a great heart, a child-like faith, and an endless enthusiasm for life.
She is preceded in death by her parents Drexel W. Baker and Alice (Franklin) Baker; cousin David Franklin; and her best friend of many years, Justine Weaver. She is survived by her brother Keith Baker; sister and family: Joanna (Baker) and John Caldwell, Laurel and Phillip Lackey, Jessa Patricia Caldwell and Shanna Caldwell; sister and family: Mary Lynn (Baker) Murry, Colin, Beth, Ian and Darwin Murray; Andrew Tully Murray and Caitlin Murray; Aunts, Uncles, and a host of cousins.
