Westwood Drops Basketball Doubleheader to Huntland
The Rockets and Lady Rockets of Westwood welcomed Huntland to the Joel Vinson Gym on Monday night for a Duck River Valley Conference basketball doubleheader. In a game you heard here on Thunder Radio, the Lady Rockets fell 35 to 30. The Rockets saw a pair of 2nd half rallies fall short in a 43 to 34 loss in the 1st National Bank Hometown Sports Series broadcast.
The Lady Rockets saw a first quarter lead disappear when Huntland went on a 12 to 0 run in the middle of the 2nd quarter to build an 8 point halftime lead. Westwood got as close as 2 points in the 3rd quarter but Huntland was able to hold off the Lady Rocket charge. Allie Roberts and Kasen Holt tied for the team lead in scoring for Westwood with 9 points. Alex Nelson and Clarissa Barrera each chipped in 4 points.
The Rockets got off to a slow start in their loss as they fell behind 11 to 0 to start the game. Westwood clawed its way back to within 1 point with 1:28 remaining in the 3rd quarter but could never quite catch the Hornets. Trenton Thompson was the leading scorer for Westwood with 16 points. Bodey Todd added 5 and Cruz Pitsinos chipped in 3 points in the loss.
Westwood will be back in action on Thursday night when they travel to Murfreesboro to take on Middle Tennessee Christian. The girl’s game will tip off at 6 PM.

CCMS Basketball Swept at White County
After a one week layoff, the Coffee County Middle School basketball team was on the road on Monday night as they traveled to White County. The Raiders and Lady Raiders fell in the Central Tennessee Conference doubleheader. The girls lost 25 to 16 while the boys came up short 51 to 33.
The Lady Raiders were held scoreless in the 3rd quarter as White County built a 1 point halftime lead into an 11 point lead entering the 4th quarter. Bella Vinson led Coffee County in scoring with 11 points. Kylie Phillips chipped in 3, while Kiya Ferrell netted 2 points.
The Red Raiders were outscored 14 to 7 in the 3rd quarter of their game in the loss. The loss is the first loss of the year for Coffee County as they fall to 4 and 1. Jaxon Vaughn led Coffee County in scoring with 12 points. Trenton Scrivnor added 6 points while Kyle Farless and Hayden Hullett chipped in 4 points apiece.
Coffee County will host their first home game of the year on Thursday night when South Franklin visits the CCMS gym. Thunder Radio will bring you the broadcast as part of the 1st National Bank Hometown Sports Series. Man Facing Several Charges after Disturbance Call
The arrest warrant indicates that Nicholas Ian Price age 26 Thoma St Manchester became violent with his mother and girlfriend. The man is accused of pushing his mother to the ground. He is also accused of throwing something in a bedroom, striking a baby who was asleep on a bed.
The arrest warrant says that Price is also accused of pulling a knife on his brother. Price’s mother and brother apparently were able to get the knife away from Price. He is also accused of pointing a loaded gun at his mother.
Price age 26 Thoma St Manchester was arrested for 2 counts of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, 3 counts of domestic assault and bond surrender. He is also facing 2 failures to appear, so bond was denied. Price will appear in court on Nov 22, 2016.
Drug Charges Filed Against Manchester Man
In the arrest warrant officers state that the man appeared to be impaired, but gave consent to a room search. Officers state in the warrant that the man gave them 3 glass pipes with residue on them. Manchester Officer Trey Adcock transported Jefferson to the Coffee County Jail.
According to the arrest warrant, while correction officers were searching the subject they found 1.9 grams of what field tested for Methamphetamine in the man’s person that he allegedly tried to hide from the officers.
Jefferson was charged with Schedule II drug violations, unlawful paraphernalia uses and activities and contraband in a penal institution. His bond was set at $15,500 and he set to appear in court Jan 3, 2017.
Division of Forestry says No to Burn Permits
According to the Division of Forestry no one in the state of Tennessee will be issued burn permits.
Authorities said that there has been an increase in suspected arson cases and with the area being very dry they would like people to express caution.
In Grundy and Marion Counties, the South Cumberland State Park is advising that a ban on campfires is in effect until the area receives heavy, sustained rains for a few days. A stretch of the Fiery Gizzard Trail is closed because of recent wildfire damage.
Several forest fires have been reported in Tennessee at locations that include Grundy, Cumberland, Marion and several counties in East Tennessee.
Franklin County Leaders and Citizens meet about Opioid Epidemic
As the result of what is being called an epidemic the Franklin County Drug Coalition and the Winchester Police Department held a meeting last week at the Franklin County High School auditorium for parents and interested people.
The epidemic is from the abuse of opioids. During the meeting teenagers who have been addicted to the prescription medications spoke and one parent also spoke about their child being hooked. According to Winchester Police Chief Dennis Young, there has been one death related to the abuse of the addicting drugs. Young says that people think that just because the drug is prescribed by a doctor it is not addicting, but it is.
The meeting at the high school was to make people aware of the dangers of the opioids and the current problem being experienced in the community.
Motlow State schedules Residual ACT Test
Motlow State Community College will administer the complete Residual ACT Assessment Test on Nov. 11 and Dec. 16, 8:30 a.m. – noon; and on Jan. 4, 12:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. The test will be administered in room 1043 of the Crouch Center on the Moore County campus.
Applicants under 21 years of age planning to attend Motlow State should register for the ACT test. All applicants taking the ACT must have an admission application on file prior to taking the test.
Applicants are required to complete an application as soon as possible to be eligible for the test, and must complete the ACT application and enclose a check or money order for $40 to be eligible. The application fee and a picture identification are required the day of the test.
Any student who plans on attending another college must take the National ACT test, or take the test on the campus of the prospective college, as scores for the Residual ACT Assessment Test cannot be transferred to another college or university.

11/9/16 — Serenity Short
SERENITY SHAYNE “SISSY” SHORT, age 19, departed this life on Saturday, November 5, 2016. Serenity was born on August 22, 1997, in Tullahoma, Tenn. to Jeffery Lynn Short and Harmony Underwood Short. Serenity attended school in Moore County. She loved the outdoors. Her favorite hobbies were camping, fishing and horseback riding.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Deborah Hereford and Maternal step-great-grandfather, Willie Weir.
She is survived by her mother, Harmony Cross and husband, George of Flintville, Tenn., father, Jeffery Short and wife, Elizabeth of Tullahoma, Step-father, Charles Ray Brady of Tullahoma, Paternal Grandparents, Bill and Shirley Carden of Beech Grove, Tenn. Maternal Great-Grandmother, Eunice Weir of Flintville, Tenn., Maternal Grandfather, Samuel Underwood of Winchester, Maternal Step-Grandfather, William McMahan of Tullahoma, sisters; Destiny (Tyler) Creson, Mackenzie Short, Elizabeth Brady all of Tullahoma and Layla Bundy of Morrison, brothers; Chance Gibson of Manchester, Tristan Short, Jake, Dustin, Marcus and Dalton Brady all of Tullahoma.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until Service time at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, November 9, 2016, in the Chapel of Grant funeral services.
Interment will follow in the Concord Cemetery in Tullahoma.

Raiders Fall in Playoffs to End Football Season at Maryville
Facing a team who has appeared in 14 straight state championship games, Coffee County drew the unenviable task of taking on Maryville on Friday night in a first round playoff matchup. The Rebels scored on the opening kickoff and rolled up 425 yards of offense in a 56 to 14 defeat of the Red Raiders. Coffee County scored on a pair of big plays on offense as their season comes to a close.
Alontae Taylor raced 80 yards for a touchdown run with 9:09 left in the first quarter to cut the Maryville lead to 14 to 7. DeAaron Rozier scored on a 56 yard run in the 3rd quarter as the Raiders scored the only points of the second half. Coffee County was able to amass 245 yards of total offense but a pair of turnovers stopped Red Raider drives.
Taylor finished the night with 101 yards rushing on 6 carries with a touchdown and caught 3 passes for 22 yards. He also passed 6 times with 3 completions for 16 yards. Rozier carried the ball 9 times for 91 yards and a score to earn the Thunder Radio/Crazy Daisies player of the game honors.
