12/7/16 — Henry David Duggan

Henry David Duggin, of Manchester, passed this life on Sunday, December 4th, 2016 at his home at the age of 87. Mr. Duggin was born in Cannon County to the late Fernando Cortez Duggin and Matilda Alice Lance Duggin. Mr. Duggin was an entrepreneur, owning Duggin Vending, raised Tennessee Walking Horses and limousine cattle and was also a Brick Mason.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his first wife, Mary Ann Duggin; one son, Joe Duggin;  and four siblings, Buena Warren Owens, Walter Emerson Duggin, Eula Elizabeth Gaither, and Fernando Cortez Duggin Jr. Mr. Duggin is survived by his wife, Shirley Duggin of Manchester; three children, Ron Duggin and his wife Vickie of Manchester, Janice Smith and her husband Sammy of Manchester, and Jason Duggin and his wife Katie of Calhoun, Georgia; three step-children, Glenda Bates of Manchester, Steve Bates and his wife Mary of Sand Springs, Oklahoma, and Clay Bates and his wife Robin of Columbia; one sister, Wilma Abbott of Tullahoma; ten grandchildren, Cory Duggin and his wife Heather, Taylor Duggin dugginand his fiancé Lindsey, Dylan Smith, Lowry Duggin, Henry Duggin, Mindy Sheppard, Jamie Laymance and her husband Barry, Britney Bates, Nick Bates, and Maggie Bates; and three great-grandchildren, Alyssa, Kam, and Maliyah. Visitation for Mr. Duggin will be held on Tuesday, December 6th, 2016 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 7th, 2016 at 2:00pm in the Kilgore Funeral Home Chapel with Bros. David Wall and Mike Ray officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Church of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc., P.O. Box 111180, Nashville, Tennessee 37222-1180 for the recent fires in Gatlinburg.

Westwood welcomed Fayetteville to the Joel Vinson Gym for 8th grade night on Monday.  The Lady Rockets controlled the game for the onset to capture a 31 to 13 win.  The Rockets got off to an ice cold start as they fell 50 to 32.

The Lady Rockets used their pressure defense in the 3rd quarter to blow open a 4 point game and coast to the season sweep of the Lady Tigers.  Allie Roberts was the leading scorer for Westwood with 8 points.  Elissa Woodard added 6 points and Kasen Holt finished with 5 points.

The Rockets were held scoreless until a Trent Thompson 3 pointer with 45 seconds left in the 2nd quarter made the score 20 to 3.  The 20 point deficit was too much for Westwood to chop down in the 2nd half.   Thompson finished with 13 points to lead the Rockets.  Brady Nugent and John Dobson each finished with 5 points for Westwood.

The Rockets close out the regular season on the road at Liberty on Thursday night.  The girls’ game will tip at 6 PM.  The Duck River Valley Conference tournament will begin on Saturday, we will announce the times for the Westwood teams later in the week.

The Coffee County Middle School Raiders and Lady Raiders traveled to Cowan on Monday night to take on their heated rivals from South Franklin.  The girls used a big second half to roll up a 42 to 25 win.  The Red Raiders saw South hit a free throw with no time remaining in the game as they fell 29 to 28.

After a nip and tuck first half, the Lady Raiders outscored South 15 to 3 in the 3rd quarter to capture the win and the season sweep of the Lady Trojans.  Bella Vinson led all scorers with 26 points for Coffee County.  Marley Perry added 8 points while Kylie Phillips finished with 4 points for the Lady Raiders.

After trailing by 8 points entering the 4th quarter, the Red Raiders rallied to tie the game with 8 seconds remaining with South.  As South took a half court heave at the buzzer, a foul was whistled on Coffee County for fouling the shooter.  South hit the first free throw to capture the one point win.  Hayden Hullett had a pair of 3 pointers in the 4th quarter to key the comeback as he finished with 6 points.  Jaxon Vaughn and Trevor Horne also finished with 6 points for the Red Raiders.

The middle school Raider cagers are on the road Thursday night when they travel to Woodbury to take on Cannon County.  The girls game will tip off at 6 PM and will be played at Cannon County High School.

12/7/16 — Katheryn Eileen Donohue

flower 21Graveside services for Ms. Katheryn Eileen Donohue, age 86, of Manchester, TN, will be conducted at 1 PM on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Ms. Donohue passed away at St. Thomas Rutherford Hospital in Murfreesboro, Tennessee on December 4, 2016.

Katheryn Donohue was born in Hillsboro, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Anson Robison and Lassie Gross Robison. Katheryn worked as a homemaker for most of her life. She was an active member of the Church of Christ. Katheryn enjoyed doing yard work and reading. She also loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Ms. Katheryn was preceded in death by her loving husband of 23 years, Paul Donohue; three brothers, Bud Robison, Clarence Robison, and Jim Robison; three sisters, Hazel Carr, Clara Mae Hutchins, and Greta Rigney. She is survived by her two sons, Kerry Lowe of Manchester, Tennessee and Kevin (Diane) Lowe of Georgia; daughter, Kathy White of Manchester, Tennessee; sister, Ruby Watson of Tullahoma, Tennessee; four grandchildren, Shannon White, Kimberly (Paul) Sullivan, Kaitlyn Lowe, and Kyle Lowe; four great-grandchildren, Taylor Anderson, Maddie, Allie, and Byron Sullivan; many special nieces, nephews, and close friends.

Pedestrian Killed in Coffee County

pedestrian-accidentAt 5:45am Monday morning a pedestrian was struck and killed as she was walking along Blanton’s Chapel Road in the northern part of Coffee County.
The 2000 Nissan, driven by a Manchester man was traveling eastbound on Blanton’s Chapel Road when the accident occurred. According to a Tennessee Highway Patrol report, Patsy L Johnson age 64 of Manchester was struck while she was walking in the lane of travel.
No charges were filed.

SCAM Alert

scam_alertArea law enforcement would like to alert all citizens of another scam that is targeting our area. The caller will identify himself as a public defender and states that your grandson or granddaughter has been involved in a traffic crash and is ok but currently in jail.
The SCAM will then instruct you to wire $2,190.00 for bail and advises you not to try to call the jail as it will complicate matters.
The number the call is coming from is 541-402-1212. If you receive a call from this number it is a SCAM! Please hang-up and don’t engage in a conversation with these people.

Fatal Fire in Smithville

fatal fire 2Officials say two adults and a child have died in a residential blaze in Middle Tennessee and two others were injured.
A statement from Smithville Police Chief Mark Collins said five people were at the mobile home in Smithville on Sunday afternoon when firefighters responded. The statement says a passer-by and a firefighter were able to get the two children out of the burning home, though one later died.
Police say 27-year-old Jeremy Shelton and 36-year-old Crystal Fults died in the blaze. Another adult, 26 year old Heather Standridge, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center along wither her toddler, 23-month-old Brantley Johnson. Standridge’s other child, 4-year-old Caylix Johnson, died after being taken to a hospital.
Collins said the blaze is under investigation. He said the cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
