Terry Floyd Benefit Account Set Up

Former CHS pitcher Brianna Jones and Coach Terry Floyd pose for a picture at the TSCA All Star Showcase in 2015. (Photo provided)

As many of you local sports fans know, former Coffee County Central High School softball coach Terry Floyd has battled serious health issues for the last several years. Currently, Coach Floyd is experiencing liver failure and is anxiously awaiting a liver transplant. His condition has forced him to stop working due to poor health and hospital visits. His current treatments take place in Birmingham at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital and involve considerable expense in time and travel.
With these considerations, a special account has been set up at Coffee County Bank to help support Terry and his family during this tough stretch. The savings account is under the name “Terry Floyd Benefit Fund” and all the money collected will be used for utilities, mortgage and traveling to hospital visits.
Other fundraising events are in the works with recreational softball teams and the high school team later on in the spring, but the need for help is NOW. Terry has had a huge impact on young women in this community for more than 25 years and it is time for each of us to repay some of that debt. I encourage each of you to visit either branch of Coffee County Bank and give from the heart. As the saying goes, “Don’t give until it hurts, give until it feels good.”

Pete Weber Celebrates Broadcasting Milestone

Pete Weber of the Nashville Predators Radio Network[Photo by Nashville Predators/NHL]

When you think of the Nashville Predators throughout their 19 year history in Nashville, a lot of things probably come to mind. Maybe it is the sight of Barry Trotz behind the bench, the memory of the train whistles as Jordan Tootoo came on the ice, the distinctive sounds of “Fang Fingers” or Tim McGraw belting out “I like it, I love it, I want some more of it.” The names throughout the history of this franchise include Mike Dunham, Tom Fitzgerald, Tomas Vokoun, Kimmo Timonen, Scott Hartnell, David Legwand, Shea Weber, Paul Kariya or Pekka Rinne. One name that has seen this all is Pete Weber of the Nashville Predators Radio Network.
Tuesday night marks a historic milestone for Weber. When the puck drops at the Bridgestone Arena between the Predators and the Vancouver Canucks, Weber will begin his 2,000th NHL broadcast. Weber has been the voice of the Nashville Predators since the club’s inception in 1998. Weber has missed just two games during that 19 year span and has called nearly 1,200 regular season and playoff games for the club. Even after suffering a heart attack in 2014, Weber returned to the radio booth a mere 33 days later.
Weber is a native of Galesburg, Illinois and a graduate of Notre Dame. Pete Weber has been in broadcasting since 1972, breaking into the business in his hometown of Galesburg, IL as Sports Director of WGIL. Pete has the distinction of being one of the rare broadcasters who broadcast all four major sports; baseball, basketball, football and hockey. Weber is a 5 time regional Emmy award winner in the years 2003, 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2015.

Make sure you tune in tonight, immediately following Coffee County Basketball, here on Thunder Radio to celebrate this milestone with Pete Weber. Thunder Radio is your home for Nashville Predators hockey in southern middle Tennessee as an affiliate of the Fifth Third Bank/Nashville Predators Radio Network.

Facebook conversation turns into Threat

Threats quickly ended the short so-called “friendship” of a couple on Facebook.
A Bedford County man told police he accepted a friend request from a woman he didn’t know. They began texting and communicating on another app, which led to the woman sending a price list for sexual acts.
He cut off contact at that point, but the next day received a text containing photos of dead people and a Spanish voice mail advising the man if he didn’t pay for the time spent talking to the woman he’d have to pay in blood.
The victim was told to notify Facebook and unfriend the suspect.

110th Tennessee General Assembly Begins

Tennessee State Capital

State lawmakers convene the 110th Tennessee General Assembly on Tuesday with new leadership in the Senate and a House speaker eying a gubernatorial bid.
Both chambers featuring heavy Republican majorities are scheduled to begin their organizational sessions on Tuesday.
Longtime Sen. Randy McNally of Oak Ridge is the Republican nominee to succeed Senate Speaker Ron Ramsey of Blountville. Rep. Beth Harwell of Nashville is the GOP choice to stay in charge of the House, though her 40-30 nomination vote was closer than she hoped.
Harwell is among several prominent Republicans pondering a bid to succeed term-limited Gov. Bill Haslam in 2018, and political considerations might complicate a session in which the governor is expected to ask lawmakers to approve the state’s first gasoline tax hike since 1989.
