LADY BUCKS 65 WALTERS STATE 55
The Lady Senators came into Friday’s contest having won a remarkable 110 straight games in the TCCAA, a streak that stretched back over eight years. However, the Lady Bucks took control from the outset, leading 16-8 after one quarter and 35-20 at the half. Motlow had its largest lead, 33-12, with three minutes remaining in the first half.
The Lady Senators (11-6, 6-1) never quit though and fought their way back to close the gap within single digits, 51-43, after three quarters. The Lady Bucks, behind a powerful inside-out combination of Kienya Jones, Sara Vujacic and Sydney Floyd, held off the surge and took their place as the top women’s JUCO team in Tennessee.
Motlow’s defense was outstanding, holding the visitors to 33 percent shooting from the field, including 2-16 from three-point range. The Lady Bucks lost the rebounding battle to the taller Lady Senators 46-31, but Motlow shot 45 percent from the field and hit 4-9 three-point shots.
Jones was the high scorer with 18 points, while Vujacic scored 15 and Floyd had 11. Tamiah Stanford scored nine points, pulled down a team-high six rebounds and dished out three assists. LADY BUCKS 74 ROANE STATE 60
After expending so much physical and emotional energy the night before, the Lady Bucks were somewhat flat on Saturday, although they led after one quarter 22-15. The first nine minutes of the second quarter belonged to the visiting Lady Raiders though, as they outscored Motlow 24-6 to lead 39-28 with one minute to play in the first half.
The Lady Bucks responded by scoring the final eight points of the half and trailed by only three, 39-36, at the break. Floyd was especially dynamic, connecting on 6-9 three-point shots and leading the team in scoring with 20 points.

County to be reimbursed for Jail Building Problem
Coffee County is about to become $218,000 richer. The county will get reimbursed for expenses related to a problem with the smoke evacuation system of the new county jail.
The construction of the jail building began in December 2012. The problem with the smoke evacuation system was identified by the State Fire Marshal’s Office after completion of the building and caused a delay in moving of inmates until May of 2015 to the new jail and additional expenses for the county.
The two companies responsible for the deficiencies of the system are Centric Architecture and Smith Seckman Reid.
The full commission approved the settlement on Jan. 10. The two companies will pay the county by the end of the month.
Emergency Crews respond to House Fire in Wartrace
Coffee County Deputy Joey Ricco responded to a call around 4am Tuesday at 1344 French Brantley Road in Wartrace due to a structure fire. Once he arrived on scene, Ricco noticed that the whole house was engulfed in flames along with the yard and the swimming pool. He then was able to make contact with the owner of the residence, and he informed Ricco that he was at home by himself. He advised that he was in the kitchen and had placed the stove and oven on clean mode and then left the residence to go to the store. Once he arrived back at the residence he then went upstairs and then started hearing the smoke alarms going off.

New Apartment Complex closer to Reality
A new apartment complex in Manchester is one step closer to reality after Manchester Board of Mayor and Aldermen recently voted 4-1 on a third and final vote to rezone the property at the end of Truckers Lane to accommodate apartments, with Alderman Chris Elam the only no vote.
Rent for a two-bedroom apartment in the complex would be $500 per month, and $550 for a three-bedroom. Rent is based on annual income in Coffee County.
Many residents of Kimberly Lane, a possible entrance to the proposed apartment complex have voiced their concerns about increased traffic and other possible problems.
The complex at full capacity could hold 264 units, the current plan is for 84 apartments to start and grow from that point.
New Jail to be Certified in Grundy County
Almost two years ago the new Coffee County Jail opened and then became state certified and now another jail in a nearby county jail is about to be certified for the first time in 26 years.
The old jail on the mountain in Grundy County was 43 years old and had aged over time and the new jail opened late last year.
Grundy County Sheriff Clint Shrum called the conditions inside the old jail deplorable.
The old jail held only 34 inmates, the new $7 (M) jail holds 114.
Former Sheriff Pleads Guilty
The charges stem from the sale of e-cigarettes inside the Rutherford County jail. Arnold listed the company as a source of income.
Each count carries a sentence of five to 20 years and $250,000 fine each.
Before the judge accepted his guilty plea, Arnold filed a motion earlier Wednesday morning asking to be released from jail and stay with his Mother until his sentencing. The judge denied that request and decided Arnold must stay in custody pending sentencing, which is scheduled for May 8.
