Preds Fall to Penguins
Patric Hornqvist scored twice against his former club, and the Nashville Predators fell by a 4-2 final to the Pittsburgh Penguins at PPG Paints Arena on Thursday night. The result in Nashville’s first game out of the All-Star Break sees their five-game point streak come to an end, but still features an impressive 7-2-1 mark in their last 10.
Solid first and third periods bookended a middle frame that saw the Preds allow three goals, a 20-minute stretch that Head Coach Peter Laviolette called “awful.”
“They’re a good team, and they’re going to make good plays… but for our group [in the second], we had turnovers; we weren’t moving our feet,” defenseman Ryan Ellis said. “The first and third were good, but the second, we lost it in the second.”
“I thought the first period we were good, third period we were good, just that 20 minutes there in the second period, we let off the gas,” forward Ryan Johansen said. “Like we always talk about, especially with the losses, you have to play 60 minutes, especially with a team like them. They made us pay there in the second, so that was the game.”
Calle Jarnkrok gave the Predators a 1-0 lead in the first period when he poked a loose puck past Matt Murray to extend his point streak to a season-high three games, but four-straight goals from Chris Kunitz, Trevor Daley, and two off the stick of Hornqvist was all the Penguins needed to claim the win.
Colin Wilson pulled the Preds to within two when he converted on the power play with a determined individual effort, but that was as close as the Preds came to a comeback.
“The third period, we played hard again and scored a goal looking to close the gap on that and couldn’t get it done,” Laviolette said. “We left it too far hanging going into the third period with a terrible second.”
It was one and done on the road for the Preds, as they’ll head home to host Edmonton on Thursday with six more points up for grabs on a three-game home stand.
“We’re going to have to learn from this,” Ellis said. “We had a streak going, we were playing really good hockey and we need to regroup, refocus and come back next game better.”
Defenseman Roman Josi skated with the team this morning, but did not play Tuesday and remains on Injured Reserve with an upper-body injury. Brad Hunt, Derek Grant and Mike Ribeiro were scratched against the Penguins.
Colin Wilson earned his third multi-point game of the season on Thursday while scoring his seventh of the campaign, surpassing last season’s total.
The Preds fell in regulation for the first time this season after scoring the first goal of the game. They are now 15-1-5 when they tally the game’s opening goal.
The Preds return to Nashville for a three-game home stand, beginning on Thursday night when they host Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers. Every girl is crazy ’bout a sharp dressed man!
Like those famous song lyrics imply, there’s nothing like seeing your sweetheart look his best! Choosing a tuxedo for your groom and his attendants is a very important part of your wedding! Getting the right fit, custom for each man, is key to their overall comfort and confidence on your very special day. Be certain to send all of the men in your wedding party to a professional fitter; it will be worth the effort!
Hi-I’m Shirley Lawson with Lawson’s Tuxedo Rental in Manchester. One of my favorite things about being a professionally trained bridal consultant is seeing the boys, that we helped dress for their very first school formal event, come back as grown men to be fitted for their weddings. With over forty years in the formal wear industry, we actually have many generations of families we are priveleged to call loyal customers! It’s an honor for us to be a part of the special occasions that have shaped their lives!
Over the years, Lawson’s has seen every tuxedo trend imaginable! It’s likely that the apparel chosen by the men in your wedding party will look vastly different than your own parents wedding attire! If you are wanting a timeless style for your wedding, a classic black tuxedo is always in fashion. Rustic style and barn weddings may lead you to choose a jacket-less look for your gentlemen. Bow-ties with suspenders or rolled sleeve dress shirts with vests are very popular.
If your wedding is more formal, the current trends are showing navy tuxedos for this year. Designer suits and tuxedos from Michael Kors, Calvin Klein, Tony Bowls, Jean Yves, Ralph Lauren, Stephen Geoffrey and Lord West are featuring slim fit jackets and pants.
Making your wedding day perfect, every detail, right down to the ring-bearer’s outfit is what we specialize in at Lawson’s Tuxedo Rental! As always, every groom’s tuxedo is free with the rental of six or more tuxedos. Click on our tile ad on the right side of this page to see our facebook page.
Find us in person at 104 East Main Street, on the square in Manchester. Our hours are 9-5 Monday through Friday or call us for a Saturday appointment, (931) 273-0503.

Counterfeit Money Passed at Two Tullahoma Businesses
Tullahoma Police are investigating the passing of counterfeit money at the Goodwill store located on North Jackson Street on Jan. 27.
An employee of the store reported to Officer Jacob Smith that a woman entered the store and paid for a purchase with a $100 bill. The bill was checked with a counterfeit marking pen and passed, however when the money was presented to Ascend Credit Union they learned that the bill was counterfeit.
Detective Tyler Hatfield is investigating the incident.
Police are investigating the passing of a second $100 bill. On Jan. 26 the manager of Mapco reported to Tullahoma Police Officer George Dodson that a white female entered the store and paid for a purchase with the bill. When a marking pen was used it passed, however, when management made a deposit at their bank they learned that it was counterfeit.
Detective Johnny Gore is investigating the incident.
Tullahoma Police Investigating Possible Theft
The owner of Express Lube and Car Wash, Lisa Ford, located on North Jackson Street reported to Tullahoma Police Officer Carl Pyrdom that one of the managers of the business had allegedly taken a deposit bag and cash from the register on five separate occasions totaling $921. The report states that the man, who was not identified as he has not been arrested, placed paper and rags over the security cameras in the office and blocked off the camera feed. Ford also alleged that the manager also took a case of oil and four oil filters.
A Tennessee Highway Patrolman advised Officer Pyrdom that the former manager was involved in a traffic accident in Bedford County and that the oil and filters were recovered.
Warrants have been obtained by Detective Johnny Gore for the man but police have not been able to locate him.
