CCMS Softball Opens Season with Win
The Coffee County Middle School softball team got a strong pitching performance as they opened the regular season on Monday with a win at White County. The Lady Raiders plated 3 runs in the top of the 5th inning to capture a 6 to 1 win. Keri Munn went the distance in the circle throwing a 3 hitter to get the victory.
The Lady Raiders used 5 walks, including 3 in the 5th inning, to claw out the opening day win. The Lady Raiders were held to 2 hits on the night. Munn struck out 8 batters in the command pitching performance. Amber Ingleburger had a pair of walks and scored once for the Lady Raiders.
Coffee County will have their home opener on Tuesday as White County will visit CCMS. The varsity game will get underway at 5 PM.
Coffee County Youth Bass Club Opened Spring Season on Saturday

Hunter Haley and Garrett Fellers captured 1st place with a stringer totaling 10.46 lbs. Blythe Petty and Maddie Harryman came in 2nd with a total catch of 7.70 lbs. Hunter Sanders and Brayden Majors were 3rd weighing in at 5.78 lbs. Taylor Fletcher and Blake Mangrum placed 4th at 4.90 lbs. and Shannah Frame was 5th with a catch of 4.58 lbs. Maddie Harryman won big fish honors as she landed a lunker weighing in at 4.10 lbs.
The next Tennessee Bass Nation Trail event is set for Saturday at Center Hill Lake. The next club fishing tournament is set for March 18th on Woods Reservoir. If you want more information about the Coffee County Youth Bass Club, visit their Facebook page at:

Coffee Co. Deputy, Manchester Officer and K-9 make Drug Bust

In the deputy’s report he said the man had slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. Simmons says Jackson was asked to take a field sobriety tests, which Simmons said in his report that Jackson refused. The deputy’s report also says that the man refused a blood test and a search warrant had to be obtained.
Simmons says that Jackson refused for his car to be searched so Manchester Officer Dale Robertson and his K-9 were called to the scene. The K-9 alerted on the vehicle and after a search of the vehicle officers allegedly located in the center console a plastic container and scales. Once the plastic container was opened allegedly found was 53.3 grams of methamphetamine, 38.2 grams of marijuana, and 99.5 2 mg Alprazolam pills. Also allegedly found were scales and a glass pipe with residue and a large amount of cash.
Jackson was charged with DUI, violation of implied consent, 3 counts of manufacturing/delivering/selling/possession of a controlled substance and unlawful drug paraphernalia uses and activities. Bond was set at $50,000 and he’ll appear in Coffee County General Sessions Court on March 13, 2017.
2/27/17–Tennessee State Education Commissioner visits Westwood Middle School
Tennessee’s Commissioner of education , Dr. Candice McQueen visited Westwood Middle School on Monday. As you might expect, Director of Manchester City Schools, Lee Wilkerson, WMS Principal Chad Fletcher and WMS Vice Principal Jonathan Graf were there to greet the Commissioner; but students from Westwood Middle School were tasked with touring the Commissioner through the school. The student body is divided into to one of four houses to foster teamwork, promote a family environment and to develop positive interactions between students in a respectful manner. Each house selected fellow students to serve as school ambassadors. These student ambassadors hosted Commissioner McQueen.

Solar Eclipse Viewing to be held at Clingmans Dome
Great Smoky Mountain National Park is planning an event to view the Aug. 21 total solar eclipse from Clingmans Dome.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports tickets will be available for $30 each beginning Wednesday at http://www.recreation.gov. A ticket is necessary to attend, and participants will be shuttled in on buses from Gatlinburg and Cherokee, North Carolina.
The sun is expected to be partially obscured by the moon over a three-hour period that afternoon and totally obscured for a shorter time.
The park will have two viewing sites.
Clingmans Dome will be closed to vehicle traffic, and the parking lot will be turned into a special events site with a Jumbotron screen for a national NASA TV broadcast.

Annual Motlow Gala is Coming Up Soon

The Gala will be held on Saturday, March 25, at the Manchester-Coffee County Conference Center and starts this year at 5:30 p.m.
Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m., and there will be a brief program where Motlow President Dr. Tony Kinkel will have the honor of bestowing two alumni awards; the Distinguished Alumni Award, and new this year, The One to Watch Award, which will recognize a younger alum.
This year the Motlow College Foundation will host a live auction featuring a limited number of items, and at the conclusion of the live auction the band Utopia will kick off a night of dancing.
New this year is also a pre-Gala event, the Motlow Gala Preview Cocktail Party, which will be held on Saturday, March 11, at the Motlow House Events Center in Tullahoma from 6-8 p.m.
Tickets to the Preview Party are $50 per person and the deadline to purchase is Friday, March 3. Tickets to the Motlow Gala are $100 per person and the deadline to purchase is Friday, March 18. Tickets can be purchased online and auction items viewed by visiting www.mscc.edu/foundation/gala.
3/3/17 — Janice Dean Wingo
Janice Dean Wingo of Tullahoma passed away Saturday, February 25, 2017 at
Tennova Healthcare – Harton at the age of 73. Funeral Services are
scheduled for Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 1 PM at the Daves-Culbertson
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marty Nutter officiating. Burial will follow
at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation with the family will be Friday,
March 3, 2017 from 6 – 9 PM at Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home.
A native of Carrollton, GA, she was the daughter of the late William A and
Dorothy Robison Dean. Janice loved music and enjoyed playing the piano and
singing. When she was growing up, she and her sisters, Marilyn and Carolyn
formed a trio, the Dean Sisters, and traveled thru out Georgia performing.
Janice was a registered nurse and had worked at Queen City Hospital and
Harton Hospital in Tullahoma; Southern TN Medical Center in Winchester;
Coffee County Medical Center in Manchester; the Lynchburg Nursing Home and
the Bedford County Nursing Home in Shelbyville. She was a “Working Mom”
and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a
devout Christian and enjoyed reading spiritual material. She also enjoyed
coloring in adult coloring books.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,
Darrell “DZ” Wingo, who passed away in 1995 and two brothers, Billy and
Kenneth Dean.
Janice is survived by one son, Jason Zachariah Wingo and his wife, Stacie
of Ooltewah, TN; one daughter, Shannon Wingo Thomas and her husband, Shawn
of Manchester; two sisters, Marilyn Overholt of Douglasville, GA and
Carolyn Phillips of Carrollton, GA and five grandchildren, Blake, Sarah,
Rebecca, Grant and Lanie.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made in her honor
to the Hospice of the Highland Rim, 110 E Lauderdale St, Tullahoma, TN
37388.
Daves-Culbertson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
