Warren County Woman Charged with TennCare Fraud

Audrea Mosely

A Warren County woman is charged for the third time with TennCare fraud involving prescription drugs. The Office of Inspector General (OIG) announced the arrest of Audrea Mosley, 26, of Morrison. She is charged with doctor shopping for drugs, which involves visiting multiple providers in a short period of time to obtain prescriptions – in this case, the painkiller Hydrocodone – using TennCare as payment. She was being held in the Warren County Jail on unrelated charges and upon release was transported to Davidson County where she was served. Mosely was charged in Warren County in December of last year with doctor shopping for the painkiller Oxycodone, using TennCare as payment. She was first arrested three months prior to that, in September 2016, on an indictment in Rutherford County, charging her with using TennCare benefits to doctor shop for Oxycodone. “Eliminating abuse of TennCare benefits, especially to obtain narcotics, is one of our main priorities,” Inspector General Manny Tyndall said. “Local police, providers and the healthcare community are with us in our effort to weed out this problem within the TennCare program.” District Attorney General Glenn R. Funk is prosecuting. TennCare fraud is now a Class D felony punishable by up to four years in prison. The OIG, which is separate from TennCare, began full operation in February 2005 and has investigated cases leading to more than $3 million being repaid to TennCare, with a total estimated cost avoidance of more than $163.6 million for TennCare, according to latest figures. To date, 2,805 people have been charged with TennCare fraud. Through the OIG Cash for Tips Program established by the Legislature, Tennesseans can get cash rewards for TennCare fraud tips that lead to convictions. Anyone can report suspected TennCare fraud by calling 1-800-433-3982 toll-free from anywhere in Tennessee, or visit the website and follow the prompts that read “Report TennCare Fraud.”

CHS Softball Benefit Jamboree Is Thursday

In one of the final tune-ups before the regular season begins, the Coffee County Central High School softball team will be hosting a softball jamboree on March 9th.  Originally scheduled for Tuesday night, the games have been moved to Thursday night.  Ten high school softball teams will take part in the one night jamboree with the games held at Terry Floyd Field at CHS and at Tullahoma’s home field at East Middle School.   More importantly, the money raised will go to benefit retired Coffee County softball coach Terry Floyd.

In lieu of admission, donations will be accepted at the gate and a special offering will be taken during the games as the Lady Raiders will “pass the hat.”  Coffee County head coach Steve Wilder is expecting a huge show of support as evidenced by the number of teams involved.  “Terry’s former coaching contacts were quick to want to help which is why we were forced to use 2 fields” said Wilder.   There will also be alumni booths selling everything from food to t-shirts with all proceeds going to help offset the medical expenses for Coach Floyd.

As many of you local sports fans know, former Coffee County Central High School softball coach Terry Floyd has battled serious health issues for the last several years. Currently, Coach Floyd is experiencing liver failure and is anxiously awaiting a liver transplant. His condition has forced him to stop working due to poor health and hospital visits. His current treatments take place in Birmingham at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital and involve considerable expense in time and travel.

Games begin at 6 PM on March 9th as Coffee County hosts DeKalb County at Terry Floyd Field and Lincoln County will take on Grundy County at Tullahoma.  At 7 PM, Franklin County will take on Warren County at Terry Floyd Field and Tullahoma takes on Cascade at Tullahoma.  The nightcap will be played at 8 PM at Terry Floyd Field as Shelbyville will play Oakland at Terry Floyd Field.  Coffee County’s game will feature a heartwarming angle as Coach Floyd’s former team will take on a DeKalb County team coached by his son-in-law Danny Fish.

Additionally, a special account has been set up at Coffee County Bank to help support Terry and his family during this tough stretch. The savings account is under the name “Terry Floyd Benefit Fund” and all the money collected will be used for utilities, mortgage and traveling to hospital visits.

Marijuana Bill Stopped in Senate Committee

A bill seeking to reduce the penalty for possessing small amounts of marijuana in Tennessee has been extinguished in a state Senate committee.
The Judiciary Committee voted 6-3 on Tuesday against the measure sponsored by Sen. Jeff Yarbro. The bill would have made possession of less than one-eighth of an ounce of marijuana a Class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine of no more than $50.
Pot possession is currently a Class A misdemeanor that can be punished with up to nearly a year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.
The legislation was filed by Yarbro and Rep. Harold Love, a fellow Nashville Democrat, in response to a Republican bill to repeal any city ordinances to reduce the penalty for people who possess small amounts of marijuana.

3/9/17–H&R Block Student of the week Trey Rogers

Congratulations to Student of the Week -Trey Rogers!!! Trey, the son of Stan and Lee Rogers, is an eighth grader at Coffee County Middle School. Trey was chosen to be honored because “he is a great student-athlete, is very respectful and is an excellent representative of Coffee County Middle School”, says school Principal Kim Aaron. Trey is the catcher for the CCMS Baseball team. Trey really likes algebra class and is interested in a career in medicine, perhaps to be an allergist. When he is not in school or playing ball, Trey likes to be outside and ride 4 wheelers. Rosalyn Partin, owner of the Manchester H&R Block, has been inspired to recognize great kids in our community all through hockey season. What does hockey season have to do with our local students? Well, H&R Block gives each Student of the Week a set of Nashville Predators Hockey tickets, a commemorative plaque, as well as a special letter of recognition. Trey says that likely his Dad will accompany him to the Pred’s game! Check back here for H&R Block’s next Student of the Week award!

Tuesday Prep Cancellations and Schedule Changes

For the 2nd consecutive Tuesday, Mother Nature was the big winner in prep sports as all of the scheduled events were rained out.

The Coffee County Middle School baseball and softball teams were set to travel to McMinnville to take on Warren County.  Both teams have rescheduled the games for Thursday night at 5 PM.  The CCMS softball team had a non-conference game with Westwood scheduled for Thursday night.  That game has been postponed and both coaches are looking to find a makeup date.

Speaking of Westwood, the Westwood softball team’s game at Community was cancelled on Tuesday.  Coach Amanda Sullivan has not yet secured a make-up date for that game.

The Coffee County Central High School softball jamboree that was scheduled for Tuesday night was rescheduled on Sunday and will now take place on Thursday night.  The jamboree begins at 6 PM and features Coffee County taking on DeKalb County in a 4 inning game at Terry Floyd Field.  Proceeds from the jamboree will go to benefit Terry Floyd to help offset some of his medical expenses as he awaits an organ transplant.  Two more games will take place at Coffee County as Franklin County takes on Warren County.  At 8 PM, Shelbyville will take on Oakland in the nightcap.

The Coffee County Central High School baseball team’s scrimmage game with Forrest has been cancelled and will not be made up.  The Red Raiders dropped a 1 to 0, eight inning decision at Warren County on Monday night to wrap up the preseason.  Coffee County coach David Martin’s Red Raider squad will open up the regular season on Monday night at Powers Field as they open against district foe Shelbyville.  First pitch is set for 5 PM and Thunder Radio will bring you the broadcast with Lucky Knott on the call.

The Coffee County Central High School soccer team cancelled their scrimmage with Riverdale.  Coach Robert Harper is attempting to find a replacement scrimmage for Thursday night.  If they are unsuccessful, the Red Raiders will open the regular season on Tuesday, March 14th at home when they welcome Marshall County to the Raider Soccer Field behind the Coffee County Raider Academy.  As always, Thunder Radio will keep you updated on any and all schedule changes.
