A standing room only crowd saw the Coffee County CHS Lady Raider softball team host the Terry Floyd Jamboree on Thursday night at Terry Floyd Field.  The Lady Raiders finished the game with 1 hit, but it proved to lead to the winning run in a 2 to 1 victory.  The win by the Lady Raiders highlighted a tremendous event designed to raise money for Terry Floyd as he awaits an organ transplant.  The event raised more than $6,500 for Coach Floyd.

Tied at 1 entering the bottom of the 4th inning, Coffee County needed a spark after being held hitless.  Katie Rutledge provided that spark when she ripped a 3-1 pitch over the right fielders head for a triple to place the winning run 60 feet away.  One out later, Tori Bell laid down a beautiful suicide squeeze bunt to give Coffee County the thrilling win.

Sarah West scored Coffee County’s first run as she got on base via a walk and scored on a Haley Richardson groundout.  Kaylee Skipper got the win in the circle for Coffee County as she surrendered just 2 hits while striking out 4.  The Coffee County defense committed a pair of errors to surrender an unearned run.

The Lady Raiders open the regular season on Monday in Lawrence County.   First pitch is set for 7 PM.

Lady Raider Softball Blasts Warren County

Kiya Ferrell of CCMS softball

Holding a 1 to 0 lead heading to the 4th inning, the Coffee County Middle School softball team exploded for 8 runs in the final 3 innings to defeat Warren County 9 to 2.  The Lady Raiders pounded out 14 hits in the conference win to run their record to 4 and 0 on the season.  The win gives the Lady Raiders a season sweep over the Lady Pioneers.

In a night highlighted by hitting stars, Kiya Ferrell led the Lady Raider attack with 4 hits including a pair of doubles, 3 runs scored and an RBI.  Keri Munn had 3 hits with 4 RBI and a sacrifice.  Katie Crosslin had 3 hits and 3 RBI.  Munn went the distance in the circle to get the win as she had 8 strikeouts.

The Lady Raiders travel to Shelbyville on Monday to take on Harris.  First pitch is set for 5:00 PM.

The Coffee County Central High School soccer team competed in their final scrimmage of the spring on Thursday as they traveled to Bell Buckle to take on Webb.  The Raiders raced out to 3 to 0 halftime lead before claiming a 5 to 1 win.

Leo Botello had a goal in both halves for Coffee County and Breyer Taylor added a goal and an assist.  Coffee County also got goals from Cameron Kistler and Chase Harper in the dominant scrimmage victory.

CCMS Baseball Falls to Warren County

CCMS baseball player Trey Rogers

A two out rally in the top of the 1st inning loaded the bases and pushed in a run for the Coffee County Middle School baseball team.  Warren County was able to plate single runs in the 3rd, 5th and 6th innings to drop the Red Raiders 3 to 1 on Wednesday night.

Four straight singles plated Todd Watkins in the first inning as Coffee County bounced back from being held hitless in the series opener on Monday.  Braxton White delivered the RBI single to give the Riders the early lead as Coffee County banged out 7 hits on the game but could not plate another run.  Trey Rogers and Braden Brown each had a pair of hits for Coffee County.

The Red Raiders travel to Shelbyville on Monday to take on Harris.  First pitch is set for 5:00 PM.

Westwood Baseball Drops Road Contest to Community

Brady Nugent of Westwood baseball

The Westwood Middle School baseball team traveled to Unionville on Thursday night for their first road game of the season as the Rockets took on Community.  A shaky 2nd inning saw Community plate 7 runs after 5 Westwood errors.  A late Rocket rally came up short in an 11 to 5 loss.

After trailing 7 to 0, Westwood rallied to score a pair of runs in the 3rd inning.  The Rockets plated 3 runs in the 7th inning before Community squashed Westwood rally.  Brady Nugent had a pair of hits and scored twice for Westwood.  Trenton Thompson had a pair of doubles and Blake Hale had a double and a single.

The Rockets will be back at home on Monday when they play host to Huntland.  That game is set to begin at 5:00 PM.

CCMS Soccer Falls to Warren County

The Coffee County Middle School soccer team held the heavily favored Warren County Middle School Pioneers scoreless for the first 17 minutes before falling 5 to 0 on Thursday in a conference match.

A pair of goals in the 17th and 18th minutes put Warren County out front 2 to 0 and took the Red Raiders out of their comfort zone.  Another goal just before the half gave the visitors a 3 to 0 lead.  In the second half, Coffee County got a bit impatient trying to regain possession which allowed the Pioneers to add goals in the 36th and 42nd minutes.

The Raiders were able to create some scoring opportunities in the 2nd half, but could not find the back of the net.  Coach Kenny Lockhart was pleased with his young team’s effort in the loss as their record falls to 1 and 1 on the season.  The Red Raiders travel to Shelbyville on Monday to take on Harris.  Kick-off is set for 5:30 PM.
