CHS Baseball Rallies to Top Lincoln County on Tuesday

Davis Green of CHS baseball

The CHS Red Raider baseball team welcomed Lincoln County to Powers Field on Tuesday for a district match up with the Falcons.  In a game you heard here on Thunder Radio, the Red Raiders struggled to get their offense going until the 6th inning.  Trailing 2 to 0, Coffee County rallied to win 3 to 2.

Trailing 2 to nothing entering the last of the 6th, Jacob Langham led off with a walk before Noah Anderson hit an infield single.  Nathaniel Tate laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt that Lincoln County threw away at first base.  The speedy Tate ended up at 3rd base on the play as 2 runs scored.  Cade Giles hit an RBI double to plate the go-ahead run and Davis Green set down Lincoln County in the top of the 7th inning for the win.  Green went the distance on the mound for Coffee County as he earned the Crazy Daisies Player of the Game.  Green scattered 7 hits while striking out 5.

After the game, Coach David Martin had this to say about his senior pitcher:

The Raiders will travel to Fayetteville on Wednesday night for game #2 in the series.  First pitch is set for 6 PM.

Westwood Softball Stays Perfect in Conference Play

Alli Roberts of Westwood softball

The Westwood softball team hosted Huntland on Monday afternoon for their home opener.  The Lady Rockets used 11 walks and an inside the park home run from Alli Roberts to claim a 10 to 0 win in 5 innings.

Westwood loaded the bases in the first inning but a pop-up ended the potential rally.  After that, the Lady Rockets scored in every inning to get the mercy rule win.  Roberts laced a 2 strike pitch down the left field line past the diving left fielder and raced around the bases for a 3 run, inside the park home run.  Westwood only needed 6 hits to get the win as Faith Willoughby ended the game with a pair of singles and an RBI.  Kaitlyn Davis went the distance on the mound to get the win as she surrendered 2 hits with 7 strikeouts.

The win improves the Lady Rockets record to 3 and 1 on the year and 3 and 0 in conference play. Westwood hits the diamond again on Tuesday when they play host to Cascade. First pitch is set for 5:30 PM.

Westwood Baseball Drops Moore County on Monday Night

Wyatt Nugent of Westwood baseball

The Westwood baseball team traveled to Lynchburg on Monday night for a conference matchup with Moore County.  The game, originally scheduled for a home game, had to be moved due to damage to the Rockets home field at Fred Deadman Park.  After surrendering 2 runs in the first inning, Wyatt Nugent shut down Moore County and Westwood battled back to win 4 to 2.

The Rockets got on the board first in the opening inning as Nick Bogle got aboard and scored to give Westwood a 1 to 0 lead.  After falling behind 2 to 1 after the first inning, Westwood got single runs in the 3rd, 4th and 7th innings to even their season record at 2 and 2.  Nugent and Trent Thompson each had a pair of hits in the win for Westwood.

The Rockets will play host to Moore County on Wednesday at Coffee County Middle School.  First pitch is set for 5 PM.
