Westwood Baseball Stays Alive in DRVC Tournament with Win
The Westwood baseball team kept their season alive on Tuesday night with a 10 to 4 win over Huntland in the elimination bracket of the Duck River Valley Conference tournament. In a game that saw the 2 teams stay even through 4 innings, the Rockets scored 3 runs in the 5th inning and 3 runs in the 6th to grab the win.
Entering the top of the 5th inning tied at 4, Westwood got a walk and a hit batsman to lead off the inning before a pair of hits by Wyatt Nugent and Trent Thompson plated 3 runs. In the 6th inning, the Rockets got another 3 hits and a walk to give them all the runs they needed for the win. Skylar Bratcher had a pair of hits, a walk and 3 runs scored to lead the Westwood attack. Wyatt Nugent had 2 hits and Brady Nugent had a hit, 2 walks with 3 runs scored.
Thompson and Bratcher combined to pitch Westwood to the win. The Rockets will be back in action on Thursday night at 7:30 PM at Liberty, weather permitting. Their opponent will be decided on Wednesday.
CHS Lady Raider Tennis Falls in District Tournament
The Lady Raider tennis team traveled to Shelbyville on Tuesday night for the District 8AAA team tennis semifinals. Facing off against the number 1 seeded Eaglettes, the Coffee County Lady Raiders fell by a final score of 7 to 0.
For Coffee County in singles play, Kayla Wright (4-8), Anna Herrell(0-8), Natalie Elzeer(5-8), Jessica Barrera(2-8) and Rachel Henley(2-8) all dropped their matches. In doubles play, the Lady Raider teams of Wright/Henley(3-8) and Barrera/Elzeer(3-8) fell in their match ups.
The Red Raider tennis team will open up the team district tournament on Wednesday at home. The Red Raiders will host Shelbyville at the Raider Academy. First serve is set for 4 PM. The District 8AAA singles/doubles tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Shelbyville’s HV Griffin Park, weather permitting.
William Bruce Marlow
William Bruce Marlow, a resident of Tullahoma, TN passed away on Tuesday,
April 25, 2017 at Tennova Healthcare – Harton at the age of 64 years. No
services are scheduled.
A native of Winchester, he was the son of the late Giles Bruce and Mary
Damrell Marlow. He was a jeweler and managed Thompsons Jewelry Store in
Tullahoma. He enjoyed reading and watching movies.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine
Awalt Marlow.
Mr. Marlow is survived by one sister, Olivia Ann Aschbacher of Murfreesboro
and two nephews, Charles Aschbacher and his wife, Jamie of Murfreesboro and
William Aschbacher and his wife, Michele of Ft. Worth, Texas.

Brandon Lavon Simmons 34, of Tullahoma passed Saturday April 22, 2017 at Tennova Healthcare Harton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tillman and Brenda Francis Simmons.
He is survived by his Four brothers, Tillman, Mark, Jeff and Dewayne Simmons. Four Sisters, Cecelia, Denise, Sondra Simmons, and Jacquista Christman.
Host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

4/28/17 — William “Ricky” Andrews
Mr. William “Ricky” Andrews, age 57, passed away at his Moore County residence on Tuesday, April 25, 2017.
He was born in Tullahoma, Tennessee on December 9, 1959 to Nancy Moorehead Andrews and the late William Roy Andrews.
A Nazarene by faith he made a career as an independent truck driver. Growing up he loved to play baseball and compete in organized softball leagues. He was also an avid car racing fan, especially dirt track racing.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his daughter Melissa Buchanon and her husband Jamie of Lynchburg and his son Thumper Andrews also of Lynchburg. Surviving grandchildren are Nate and Myllion Love, Sissy Buchanon and Adalynne Andrews.
Also surviving are sisters Joyce Smith and her husband Jeff of Centerville, Tennessee and Carolyn Palmer and her husband Mike of Hermitage, Tennessee and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with family members will be held on Thursday evening, April 27, 2017 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Lynchburg Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted from the funeral home’s chapel at 2 p.m. Friday, April 28, 2017. Interment will be in Lynchburg Cemetery.
Tullahoma Citizen Allegedly Robbed by man with Knife
Cory Michael Smith age 29 who list an address of Hunter Road Boonville, IN was located a short time later at a store across from the apartments. Smith allegedly had a knife that matched the description given by the victim.
Smith was charged with aggravated robbery. His bond was set at $25,000 and a court date of May 11, 2017.
Air Engineering Metal Trades Council at AEDC turn down Contract Offer from National Aerospace Solutions
Officials have announced that workers represented by the Air Engineering Metal Trades Council (AEMTC) at AEDC have rejected the labor agreement recently presented by National Aerospace Solutions (NAS).
AEMTC represents 612 wage employees of NAS at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex. The two sides have a June 30 deadline to ratify a contract.
AEDC workers represented by the Metal Trades Council will continue to work under the provisions of the current labor agreement which expires June 30, 2017.
Grundy County Deputy Injured after Stopping ATV
Grundy County deputies are searching for the suspect involved in an early Monday morning incident in which Deputy Paul Sweeton was injured.
At approximately 5:45 Deputy Sweeton was patrolling Woodland Avenue in Altamont when he encountered an individual riding an ATV on the roadway with a shotgun. Deputy Sweeton stopped the ATV and discovered the driver had a revoked license. A struggle ensued and Deputy Sweeton was dragged down the road.
He sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was treated and released from the hospital.
