Our beloved father and dedicated husband, Warren Dale “Woody” Underwood,
died Friday at age 78 in his home in Tullahoma surrounded by his family.
Warren was retired from the Air Force, where he served our country as a
B36 bomber mechanic. He attended the Spartan College of Aeronautics and
Technology in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he met his wife whom he loved
faithfully for the last 55 years. He enjoyed a 39 year career, working
in the propulsion wind tunnel complex at Arnold engineering Development
Center, retiring in 2000. Woody was born June 4, 1937, the son of Samuel
Underwood and Dorothy DuBois, the fourth child in a hard-working farming
family in Woodbury, Tennessee. He attended Central High School in
Nashville, Tennessee, receiving his diploma in 1955. Much of Woody’s
life was defined by his sacrificial love for his family. He is survived
by his loving wife, Sherry; dedicated sister, Gladys Bogle; and three
children, Terry Underwood, Susan Sudberry, and Jimmy Underwood. Woody
was proud that his hard work and commitment to his children resulted in
all three kids graduating from Tennessee Tech University. He was blessed
with five grandchildren, Tyler Maxey, and Zachary, Madison, Abigail, and
Sarah Beth Underwood. Woody developed a love for sports while coaching
three children in softball and baseball. He impacted the lives of many
young men in Tullahoma, coaching Little League baseball for 8 years and
Babe Ruth baseball for 3 years. Visitation for Woody will be held on
Sunday, March 13th, 2016 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 2:00-4:00pm with a
memorial service to celebrate his life to immediately follow at 4:00pm.
Kilgore Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
