2/13/16 — Anna A. Jernigan Gipson

gipsonAnna A. Jernigan Gipson, age 82 of Decherd, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at home surrounded by her children. Anna was born and raised in Decherd, graduated from the old Winchester Academy and Franklin County High School, class of 1953. In addition to raising six children while her husband was in the army, she was a second mother to all the children in the neighborhood. Mrs. Gipson was very active in the Good Shepherd Catholic Church and School and was an active supporter of North Jr. High School and Franklin County High School bands. She was heavily involved with the local VFW and American Legion posts, serving in various leadership positions, including the 5th district president. Mrs. Gipson also volunteered at meals-on-wheels, VA Hospital, Good Samaritan, and Franklin County Hospital. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years James Buford Gipson; parents, Butler Jernigan, Sr. and Theresa Gang Jernigan; Sisters Marie (Jimmy) Hollis, Vera (Clint) Powers, Jessie Lou (Eugene) Garner, Catherine (Sister Mary Richard) Jernigan; brothers Butler Jr. (Elizabeth) Jernigan, Charles (Margie) Jernigan, and Richard (Virginia) Jernigan, and special friend Brenda Roberts of Cowan. She is survived by sons, Tom Gipson of Decherd, Denis Gipson of Huntsville, AL, Robert Gipson of Decherd and Joe (Heather) Gipson of Knoxville; daughters, Theresa (Michael) Kelley of Winchester and Cathy (Randy) Gipson of Murfreesboro; grandchildren, Amberly Kelley, Dalton James Gipson and Emma Jane Gipson all of Knoxville; friend and caregiver Pat Pechacek of Winchester. Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Friday evening, February 12, 2016, in the Chapel of Grant Funeral Services. Services for Ms. Gipson are scheduled for 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 13, 2016 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Decherd. Interment will follow in the Mt. Garner Cemetery in Decherd.
